NMAT 2015 Exam Analysis

NMAT 2015 exam held from 7 October to 8 December, 2014. The exam was of Moderate difficulty level and it is more of speed based test rather than knowledge.  Paper Pattern of NMAT is same as of last two years.

As there was no negative marking time management was quite difficult. But it results in high scoring exam and candidates preferred to attempt all the questions. Out of 120 questions, there were only few tricky questions and most of them were time-consuming. At some of the test centres, it took time to load the question papers.
Further analysis of NMAT 2015 reveals that 67% of the registered candidates are engineers followed by 20% from commerce stream. Also half of the aspirants have work experience and maximum no. of candidates are from North Region and 37% from Maharashtra & West region.

Section wise Analysis:

Language Skills:

In this section there were 32 questions to be completed in 22 minutes. This section was of easy to moderate level. It had questions on core grammar topics usage on Parts of speech, tenses, conditionals, Reported speech, Synonyms, antonyms etc.  32 questions of Language Skills were framed as:

  • Reading Comprehension– 8 questions in 2 passages of approximately 500 — 600 words each.
  • 5 statement Para jumbles– 4 questions
  • Sentence Correction– 4 questions, mark the underlined part of the statement which is grammatically incorrect
  • Vocabulary– 8 questions equally split between synonyms and antonyms
  • Cloze test–  4 questions
  • Fill in the blanks– 4 questions with 3 blanks each

How to Prepare for NMAT 2015

Quantitative Skills:

This section is of moderate level. It had 48 questions to be completed in 1 hour. There were some new questions in NMAT 2015 Quantitative Skills and there was a good balance of questions between Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency. Major questions were based on Formulae so one must study basics. Overall this section is time consuming with few tricky questions.

Logical Reasoning:

This section was of easy to moderate level. It had 40 questions to be solved 38 in minutes. There were Verbal Reasoning and Critical Reasoning questions.

Overall there were 120 questions. The overall cutoff is likely to be in the range of 205-208 for NM Mumbai and around 200 for Bangalore and Hyderabad.
