With or Without Coaching?

Prepare for JEE Main 2023: With or Without Coaching?

JEE Main 2023 is a tough nut to crack and for their benefit, many candidates join a coaching institute which has also become a trend. Joining a coaching institute does help a lot but it isn’t necessary. The coaching material will help you form a strong base for JEE Main 2023. You would have to follow a particular study pattern set by the respective institutes and plan your study schedule accordingly. If you are comfortable studying in such a way, you can join a reputed coaching institute.

But, if you cannot copewith such a pattern, don’t forget self-study is always the best option. Self-studying will prove to be as advantageous as joining a coaching institute considering you plan your time table well and follow the same rigorously. Meanwhile, you can prepare for various Olympiads and exams like NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) which will strengthen your skills and knowledge from the grass root level. This will also aid in the preparation for your board exams.

JEE Main Preparation Tips for Students from Class XI & XII

  • Tackling Backlogs from Class XI: After the commencement of STD XI, list down the topics that you feel you were weak in. Before STD XII classes begin, in between the session gap, revise those topics thoroughly and build that base that went lacking while the academic session. If you keep them lagging, just before the JEE Main Exam, it will become difficult for you to study them all from scratch.
  • Maintaining Notes: Make a habit of maintaining notes of important topics. This is extremely crucial because just in a few weeks’ time, before the exam, you will want to go through each chapter, but time will be limited. At that juncture, your notes will come in handy. You can refer to important formulae, short cut methods and other essential information that you had jotted down while preparing for the topic.
  • Avoiding Complacency: Do not delay or take things lightly. Each day is important in the course of preparing yourself and eventually cracking important entrance exams, one like JEE Main 2023.
  • Utilizing Time judicially: Time management is one of the biggest pillars of success in an exam like this. Ensure to divide your available time well-balanced between school, coaching classes, entertainment & exercise.
  • Focusing on Board Exam: For students in STD XII, they have to be mindful that they should score high in their board exams also. Thus, they should not take their school exams lightly as the sessional assessments will eventually reflect what you end up scoring in the final exam.

Subject-wise Preparation Tips

Subject-Wise Strategy for JEE Main 2023

Planning and strategizing isn’t the challenging part. The challenging and time consuming bit is the action. For your ease, we have devised subject-wise strategies for your reference that will help you crack the Engineering entrance exam.

Physics:Understanding concepts and solving problems is the key to score well in Physics. Tighten your grip on the basics of the subject rather than memorizing the formulas. While preparing, master the concepts before you start solving questions. Numerical problems and conceptual questions, both are important for JEE.

Mathematics: Mathematics requires immense practice and you must ensure that concepts and formulae are at your fingertips. Know every possible shortcut and formula. Mathematics is not just solving, it needs a little visualisation skills too.

Chemistry: Complete NCERT thoroughly and you’re done with the basics of your Inorganic Chemistry. Make suitable notes for each chapter and study all reaction mechanisms and remember all named reactions. Constantly revise your reactions and formulae in free time. On the other hand, for Physical Chemistry, read from NCERT and have your concepts clarified. After you are done with the chapter, write down all equations from the chapter in a notebook for speedy reference while solving problems.

JEE Main Revision Plan

JEE Main 2023 Revision Plan

  • Revise your notes: Covering the syllabus is not the key for success in JEE Main, what actually matters is how much you retain for the exam. Therefore, revise your notes every day for a strong grasp of concepts and application. Revise your formulas as most of the questions will be formula based. It’s not practical to revise and retain all the important formulas at once so please revise some portion of it daily during your last days before the exam.

  • Important topics: Observing the last year's JEE Main question paper, it was noted that the paper was quite balanced and spread out, covering most of the paper so keep a balanced preparation. However, there are topics from which questions are surely asked.

Radioactivity, X-Ray, Atomic structure and Photoelectric effect are some such topics from Physics. Besides these, some easy to cover and recurring topics include Unit and Dimension, Instrument etc. It’s difficult to identify important chapters in chemistry, but questions from chemical bonding, transition element and coordination compounds appear almost every year. Straight-line circle, Vector and 3D are some most asked topics from mathematics. Topics like Quadratic equation, sequence and series are some easy to cover and recurring topics in mathematics.

Candidates can also divide the topics in categories of easy, medium and difficult in terms of their difficulty level and move in the direction of easy to difficult. Since tough concepts are harder to retain, so it is best to brush up these concepts once before the exam.

  • Mock tests are a must: Take at least one full-length mock test every day and device your paper attempting strategies accordingly.
  • Question-solving approach: During your mock tests and practice papers, keep in mind that solving every question requires the right approach. This approach must include first understanding the question followed by application of concepts and ultimately calculation.
  • Paper Attempting Strategy: Candidates appearing for JEE Main must have certain strategies for time management, selection of questions and accuracy. All these factors are interdependent on each other and essential for a successful attempt. Candidates must have a clear idea of what questions they can or can not attempt. Aiming to solve the entire paper will only lead to disruption of clarity. Sequence of attempting the question paper must be chosen as per one’s own convenience. However our advice is to attempt the chemistry section first as the questions can be addressed quickly so aspirants can have more time to attempt Physics and Mathematics sections.Graph based questions are easy to attempt, candidates can use different parameters like inserting values etc to eliminate the wrong options.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle: Don’t undermine your health amidst all the stress. Maintain a healthy diet and sleep schedule during these last days before the exam. This is essential for a high concentration level and productivity during the paper.

Ques. Is 20,000 rank in JEE Main enough to get me a seat in DTU?

First of all, congratulations on securing such an impressive rank in JEE Main 2024. I am a second year B.Tech IT student at DTU. 20,000 is a pretty good rank and it will open ample branch options for you, even more if you are a Delhi Candidate. I have mentioned below the previous year JEE MAIN cutoff for B.Tech admissions at DTU- JEE MAIN 2023 Cutoff for B.Tech admissions at DTU (General Category) Branch Non-Delhi Candidate Delhi Candidate B.Tech Computer Engineering 6,224 13,345 B.Tech Information Technology 8,047 16,364 B.Tech Software Engineering 10,742 19,967 B.Tech Mathematics and Computing 14,191 22,844 B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering 17,427 31,328 B.Tech Electrical Engineering 26,778 45,966 B.Tech Mechanical Engineering 34,761 58,304 B.Tech Engineering Physics 35,157 60,976 B.Tech Automotive Engineering 38,448 68,769 B.Tech Chemical Engineering 1,55,628 97,229 B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering 1,67,573 99,535 B.Tech Civil Engineering 1,83,336 5,84,235 B.Tech Biotechnology 1,99,849 7,06,173 B.Tech Environmental Engineering 2,03,503 8,81,148 Unfortunately, a rank of 20,000 in JEE MAIN won’t fetch you a seat in Computer Engineering / IT / Software Engineering at DTU. You won’t get admission into Mathematics & Computing or ECE if you are a non-delhi candidate. But all the other branches will be most certainly open for you.
