CUET, NEET and JEE to be Merged, Read UGC Chief Detailed Plan Here
August 16, 2022
Earlier this year, UGC Chairperson, M Jagadesh Kumar announced that the authorities are planning to merge the three major entrance examinations- JEE Main, NEET and CUET.
With the initiative “one nation, one entrance test”, the authorities plan to merge JEE Main, conducted for engineering admissions in India and NEET, conducted for MBBS admission in India with CUET UG, the newly introduced undergraduate entrance exam for several central & state universities in India.
The initiative is being taken in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 being introduced from the next academic year. With this merger, candidates will not have to prepare separately for three entrance exams helping with better exam preparation.
However, according to Mr. Kumar, this merger will not be implemented immediately as nothing has been planned yet. The UGC will first create an expert committee to review the current examination procedures for admission to UG and PG courses and will also consider the potential for an integrated, single CUET and make recommendations.
"As per the NEP, the plan is to have a common entrance exam to reduce the burden on students of appearing in multiple entrances.. However, we won't hurry up to introduce it as we need to plan well. It is a massive exercise and our focus is on planning and taking forward." Jagadesh had said. Read More
