Dr. Alok Kumar Jain is the Principal of SSIPMT, Raipur. Having more than thirty two years of teaching experience, he describes what makes the education industry the best to work in. The foremost reason is that one gets to learn new things every day. He believes in the preaching that “teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” He believes it is the philosophy that’s more important for any style of leadership. Moving forward, brings out the most peculiar aspect that keeps the institute growing i.e the industry tie-ups. It helps students to get hands-on experience and gain knowledge of how the industry functions. Talking about his role, he acts as a bridge to connect the industry-academia for the students. This way, it helps to reach the goal set by the institute which is to excel in the academics and focus on the holistic development of the students. In the later segment he talks about giving back to the society and how the institute is preparing future professionals who can help the society grow and make a better nation. To inculcate the same attitude in the students, the team ensures to motivate the students to form an ambient environment for the institution.

The biggest advantage is that a person gets to learn everyday being in the education field

I feel that there were a lot of attractions for me to stay connected with the education sector since the very beginning of my career. The first and the foremost reason is that one gets to learn new things every day. Another equally important reason for me is the fact that this is one of the most dynamic sectors in the modern world, and is characterized by a myriad of challenges. Additionally, I have always felt it imperative to harness the unrelenting energy and zeal young boys and girls possess, and I have dedicated my career in diverting this energy in students to more meaningful, productive, financially satisfying accomplishments for them.

My life has revolved around the preaching of “teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”

I have a democratic and motivating style of leadership when it comes to my colleagues in the institute. I believe in leading by example. With students, I believe it is the philosophy that’s more important than the style of leadership. My entire career, the philosophy I have adhered to is expressed best by the old adage "teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". 

We strongly believe in the positive word-of-mouth by our students

We believe in hard work and focused efforts towards our students.We do not have a marketing department in the institute in over 11 years of existence. We strongly believe in the positive word-of-mouth by our students and have never had to resort to the trivial marketing efforts that are done by many other institutes.

The key differentiator for the institute has been its association with the industry

The institute has been able to partner/ associate with some of the best organisations and trade bodies, as a result of which industry best practices are easily available for our students to take due cognizance of. Owing to our close association with the industry, internships and live projects are regular features for our students. Thus, it can be easily inferred that our curriculum enjoys currency and meets the expectations of the industry.

We support students who have enrolled in our institution to seek knowledge

In the first place, in spite of being a private institute, we are governed by a fee regulatory committee and our fee per semester is less than INR 40000 for both Engineering and Management. Besides, we also have a tuition fee waiver scheme for 10% of total seats branch wise. We also have a book bank dedicated especially towards the economically backward students in the institute. Additionally our Management also supports students who are exceptional in academics/ sports/ etc. in case they have serious financial woes.

My key role is to bridge the industry-academia gap as much as I can

The foremost responsibility that I have is towards the students studying in our institute. I am committed to bridging the industry-academia gap as much as I can, along with my team in the institute. My role as the head of the institute is to make sure that we create an ecosystem that allows students to leverage their knowledge and skills to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Our aim to excel in the academics and focus on the holistic development of the students

The institute's top priority over the next decade is to achieve academic leadership and excellence. At SSIPMT Raipur we are very quick in adapting to changes in tune with those in the industry. We are committed to take up continuous improvement in curriculum to keep it abreast with the industry, and provide more and more industry exposure to students through projects, internships and expert lectures.

Our utmost goal is to give back to the society and curate future ready professionals to help the nation to grow

The vision of the institute has indeed been all encompassing, forward-looking and society oriented since the very beginning. The mission of the institute is to give back to the society, and SSIPMT Raipur stresses on the need to look at the problems that exist around us, and especially those that prevail in the rural areas, as we feel an innovative solution to those problems can make lives of a lot of our countrymen better.

When I first joined here, we started with the objective of excelling in academic results. After we achieved that, we shifted focus to trending in placements. Upon, reaching the desired level in placement statistics, we have now started concentrating on R&D activities/ IPR etc. During my tenure in the institute we have indeed covered a long way in fulfilling the vision, but it's an ongoing journey and we have been challenging ourselves to become better with each passing day.

It is important for the institution to keep pace with the industry standards

The biggest challenge for higher education is to keep pace with the industry. Another major challenge that I see is how students often struggle with the mathematical aspects of their scientific degree courses. Mathematics is critical to the study of any STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and I believe that the main area of concern is in mathematical process skills. 

Our team ensures to motivate the students and to become a part of ambient environment for the institution 

It's a 24X7 monitoring that we keep in the entire campus. The heads and faculty members ensure the right culture and environment in classes, while the hostel wardens take care of the same in hostels. Additionally, we have two temples in the campus to give the students a religious/ pious environment too. We believe in teamwork and try to create a Win-Win situation for all the stakeholders of the SSIPMT fraternity.
