Is there anything good about IEM, Kolkata for a BTech? Will we get any extra advantage studying in IEM?

A friend of mine did her BTech from IEM Kolkata and now she is working as a Cyber Security Analyst in a big firm. Here are a few things that she experienced in her duration at the college.

Unnecessary Rules: Students often complain about the unnecessary discipline enforced by the college to attend all of the lectures and seminars irrespective of their choice and usefulness.
Faculty: In terms of faculty, there is a mix of average and good professors. But most of the good professors are moving to different colleges.
Placements: In the terms of placement, the data may show it as amazing but in reality, most of the students of IEM end up in mass recruiting jobs offered by any IT company. Only a few of the students end up in good companies.

If you are choosing IEM try to make the most of it. Other than college learning, try and take up some extra courses such as coding or hacking and security, it will help a lot. There are a handful of helpful faculties at IEM. Interacting and working with those professors will help a lot in going good places.

Learn to utilize their time and learn new things. Learn something new and read as much as possible. If you are not happy with campus placements then you should look for off-campus placements as well.

IEM Infrastructure: Infrastructure is average with 3 buildings and a playground. Each building is dedicated to different courses. The playground is sufficient to play Basket Ball and Badminton.
Hostel: Fees of IEM hostel is ₹39000 per sem. but one has to pay for the whole year at one time. And there is no hostel of IEM, IEM has a contract with some local pg owners and they will allow you one of those pg accommodations. I think there are 4–5 such hostels of IEM is situated in Salt Lake and one in mahisbathan which is very near to the college building.

Ans. Yes, it is a good institute that provides Zero tolerance to ragging, good placement, a spacious campus for the students, and dedicated faculties. The environment in the institutes inspires students to work hard for coping up with the health competition.

Ques. How is the campus life of students at IEM, Kolkata?

Ans. The campus life at IEM, Kolkata is said to be the school where the gate of the college is at 9.10 AM and attend assembly daily. The campus has no playground or much space other than the auditorium.

Ques. What is the difference in terms of the strictness of the IEM management building and the IEM Gurukul campus?

Ans. The management building is more strict as compared to the gurukul Building. In the management building, students need to seek a pass for leaving the campus during class hours which is not found in Gurukul Campus.

Ques. Are the students of IEM, Kolkata frustrated despite good placement?

Ans. It is due to the rigorous class schedule for the students and strict discipline imposed on the students that started from wearing formals to gates closed at 9.10 AM. The first-year students don't usually expect school-like disciplines in college like that makes it frustrating to get adjusted to the environment.

Ques. Is it worth studying Mechanical Engineering at IEM Kolkata?

Ans. Yes, it is a decent course to pursue from IEM Kolkata. The faculties of the department are generous and supportive of guiding students throughout the course period.
