There are many options available to students based on what they decide to pursue after their undergraduate years. Most co-op students choose to pursue a full-time job, usually from one of their previous co-ops. It has been found that most students target Silicon Valley companies as preferred places to work, and hence leave Canada at the end of their study period. The co-op process certainly gives students an edge because they have potentially more experience than other candidates who might be applying for the same role at a company. Those who choose to go into higher studies and academia also have options in the form of Accelerated Masters's programs, helping professors with their ongoing research, etc.

Internship

Yes. I will be joining the Home Trust Company as an IT Digital Services intern for my Spring 2021 co-op term for CAD 19.35 per hour. To get a co-op job, students must apply to several jobs during the application windows as indicated by the University. That is followed by an interview process followed by a Ranking/Matching which determines the students’ acceptance at a company.

I am not interested in a job so haven't done much research but from the environment and speech of my friends, I feel it to be healthy and prosperous.

I chose Waterloo simply because of its ranking and because its location. My dream behind pursuing studies as an international student was exposure.

Placement rate is nearly 100% within 6 months of completion of the program, the placement process isn't detailed after an updated resume and cover page is drawn up which is covered by the career services at Waterloo itself. All the profiles offered are either related to finance, accounting, risk and investment management etc. Median Salary is 50K CAD upwards for any of these profiles. Most end up working in financial centres of the country such as Vancouver or the Bay Street.

My secondary choices were business and finance programs at universities such as York, Ryerson but Waterloo's AFM outweighs all of them on the basis of practicality, reputation, reach and job opportunities. It's simply the best business related program after Toronto but it's also one of the hardest to be accepted into. Why would someone choose second tier B-programs from Ryerson when they have Waterloo offering them a spot in one of the most looked upon business programs in the country,
