INSIDE NIT SILCHAR: SHOULD YOU OPT OR NOT

Sk

Remarks :

Admissions are done on the basis of your JEE Main Rank further proceeded by JOSAA and CSAB counselling. You should have 75% or above in 12th or you should lie in the top 20 percentile of your respective boards. Reservations are based on category (EWS, OBC NCL, SC, ST, PWD). 20% of supernumerary seats are reserved for females in each branch

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course curriculum is a bit hectic as after covid semesters are not as long as they used to and there are also internal marks for minor tests. Strict attendance criteria of 75%. The faculty are good and well qualified. All of them have PhDs from prestigious institutions like IIT, BITS, etc. Having good teaching and industry appearance. You have to study most things on your own as college professors are not so much concerned about your life. Exams are having a good level and examination is very strict. You're not allowed to turn your heads so don't be dependent on others

Internships Opportunities :

A bit lesser number of companies visit for internships if we compare the number to placement drive. CSE and ECE people enjoy good internship opportunities with a handsome stipend but in core branches, you will have to look for off-campus opportunities. Many of them have less stipend or are unpaid.

Placement Experience :

Students get eligible for placements from the 6th sem onwards. for the year 2023 placement percentage was around 90%. Some PSUs also visit the campus like BPCL etc. All major IT giants like META, GOOGLE, ATTLASSIAN, and AMAZON visit the campus. Placements are very good> The average package of college is 14 LPA and the median is 11 LPA. If you study you will get placement easily. Placements are comparatively good for circuital branches.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

You have to pay fees for each semester during registration for that particular semester. Fees for a student in the first sem go around 80000 with 12000 one-time charges and hostel fees are around 30000 with a 10000 one-time security deposit. The fee waiver is there in tuition fees, F=for SC, ST 100% of the tuition fee is waived off. For income below 1 lakh, 100% of tuition fees are waived off and for income between 1 to 5 lakh 2/3rd of your college fees are waived off. Fee hikes about 10% for each batch

Campus Life :

Campus life is very exciting, you have a lot of things to do other than study. You name any club or society and you have it. One should indulge in clubs and society in their college for their personal development and communication skills. Incandescence, the annual cultural fest of NIT SILCHAR is a 3-day massive fest held in the month of February. It is the largest cultural fest in the northeast after IIT Guwahati. Many artists like Mohit Chauhan and Darshan Raval have performed. Technosis is the tech-fest of the college held in the month of October, Exciting competitions are held like robo fight and many other events for science and technology. We have the largest library in south east Asia having about 2 lakh books. All journals, magazines, and books are available in the library. Classrooms are big and have proper fans and light in them. All clubs are active. You should always try to go for them.

Placement Experience:

The placement of the college is quite good. we cannot disclose the name of the company visiting the campus because the training and placement cell of NIT SILCHAR did not allow us to disclose the names of the companies. My plan after getting my degree is to go through the UPSC exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Because I was interested in this course. Here the faculty-to-student ratio would be around 1:25 which is very good we can clarify our doubts by asking the faculty, the Qualification of the teaching method will mostly be the same, they are PhD, but their teaching experience plays a major role and their teaching method varies from faculty to faculty but it would be nice. Term exams would be around 5 months Difficulty in passing the exams depends on the faculty.

From the 6th sem onwards students are eligible for campus. As per the guidelines of the training and placement cell, the name of the company visited can't be disclosed. There are too many companies visiting the campus for recruitment. Almost all the students who are eligible for placements get placed with a good package.

Till now placement percentage is at a good level. From 6th semester students became eligible for placements. Most of the students get placed. From what I have heard short listing of candidates is based on cgpa basis. Skills are most important to go to software companies.

Placement Experience:

The placement season in the college is a very important one. Even before that, students get to do internships from 2nd year of BTech, providing them exposure to all kinds of companies and job sectors. All kinds of companies like Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, Uber make their way out here in search of bright minds capable of developing the companies further. They even provide the students with Pre Placement Offers, if their internship performance is commendable. The highest package goes upto above 2 crore INR per year, with average packages of above 25 lakhs INR per year. Above 85% of the students get placed in the end, with the others interested in higher studies. Nobody is left idle. My plans after BTech are to pursue a well paying job with a good working atmosphere.
