What are the selection criteria and the minimum CAT score needed in FMS Delhi?

SJ
Sidhharth Jain Posted On : January 8th, 2023
Director- Alchemist Gurgaon, Educator at Unacademy

For the second round, FMS issues approximately 2800 calls, 1000 of which are for the general category and the remainder for the various other categories. The criteria for making a call are based entirely on CAT. That is why CAT plays an important role in getting a call, and this is a boon for those who do not have good graduation scores because there is a 10% weightage to 10th&12th marks in the final score and no weightage to graduation marks.

To be called, an aspirant must score at least 99 percentile in the general category and 95 percentile in the reserved category for students.

The weightage given to the various sections of CAT when making a call is as follows:

Quant - 30%

DILR - 30%

English - 40%

The fees for a two-year program have been raised slightly; it is now around 2 lakhs for a two-year course, which is still on the low side.

The final weightage of the score is as follows: CAT - 60%, GD - 10%, PI - 15%, 5% extempore, 5% for the tenth score, and 5% for the 12th grade.

Is there any attendance issue in Hansraj College DU?

NP
Niharika Panchal, Posted On : October 30th, 2021
studied from Hansraj College, University of Delhi (2015)

No, there is no attendance issue at Hansraj College. Attendance carries 5 marks in internal marks. But most of the students do not pay much attention to it.

They feel it is better to enjoy your campus life than secure the 5 marks because it could also be scored at the end of semesters which ultimately balances it out.

What should be the order of preference for branches in Thapar University?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : August 3rd, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Trust me when I say there is no fixed order of preference for branches. The choice of branches is a very subjective matter and depends solely on your inclinations and future prospects.

Choosing a branch just because it has good opportunities and everyone is running for it does not mean it will be the perfect one for you. I have seen many students take CSE just because of the hype and then regret it later as they realize they have no interest in coding. I will suggest

  • Go for core branches like electrical and Civil if you aren’t sure of your interest and just want to land a stable government job.
  • Go for easy and light branches like chemistry if you are willing to pursue MBA.
  • Go for CSE or ECE, if your only goal is getting high packages in top companies.

So my personal preference order looks like this.

CSE>Software>IT>ECE >Electrical >EIC>Civil>Chemical>Biotechnology

Hope this was helpful!

Both institutions are well-recognized for their well-structured academic program, highly qualified and experienced faculty members, and excellent research facilities. What are the advantages and disadvantages of joining a newly opened govt. college such as one of the the new IIIT's (in Sri City, Vadodara, Sonepat, Kota, Una, Wb etc)?

AS
Amandeep Singh Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
IIIT Vadodara

One of my friends was part of the 1st batch of IIIT Vadodara. Here are a few snippets of his experience at the institute. This can help you understand the challenges you will face in a newly-established institute.

Advantages:

  • Every event was first, be it freshers, annual day, cultural fest, or any other. It is an entirely different kind of experience to be part of the first of everything.
  • For the first few years, my friend stayed in a hostel of a State College provided by Govt. Which was also shared by the students of that college. With such limited resources, you will learn to adjust.
  • My friend and his batch-mates fought with the management on more than one occasion and got their way. In a new institute, you will learn to be more independent and self-reliant.
  • As you will be the very first batch, you will be able to set your own trends and rituals.
  • In my friend’s case, there were faculties and staff members who arrived after the students joined. You can be a part of the decision-making process.

Disadvantages:

    • Lack of Resources: The most frustrating aspect of studying in a newly established institute is quite obviously the lack of proper infrastructure. You won’t have a proper campus, library, proper laboratories and sometimes, few basic necessities like food and water too.
    • Inexperienced Faculty: IIIT Vadodara was under the mentorship of DA-IICT- Gandhinagar. So, my friend was fortunate to have well-qualified faculties. But the newly recruited faculties for the institute were no match for the standards of a National Institute like IIIT. Few of the faculties were still pursuing their Ph.D. Being new to the profession, there were errors in their ways of teaching and evaluating.
  • No-fixed Fee Structure: For my friends, there was no fixed fee structure. Due to a lack of proper hostel facilities, students were moved to new locations every individual year. With the new sites being more remote and almost no internet connectivity. With the shift, the hostel fees used to increase. Students were also made to bear the cost of transport cost.
  • Lack of Proper Authority: You are also likely to face, lack of proper authority in a newly-established institute. In my friend’s case, there was no one to solve their problems. Many students also didn’t get their scholarships, due to the lack of authority.
  • Lack of Management: Due to the lack of proper management my friend and his batch mates faced problems with their results and academic records.

These are a few of the advantages and disadvantages of studying in a newly established institute. Also, a word of advice, check the official website before opting for an institute. For my friend, choosing IIIT Vadodara was not a matter of choice but a matter of chance.

Will I regret my decision of joining MANIT Bhopal? Reading about it on Quora made me ask this question.

SB
Surendra Bose Posted On : November 8th, 2023
Studied at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

I was in a similar dilemma one year back. But now, I don’t regret my decision to join this college.

Upon entering MANIT, you’ll feel a bit unsure of your decision. But after some time, you’ll start to enjoy your time at this college. The infrastructure is poor, and the senior-junior interaction is stressed during the first few months. But your relations with seniors will eventually improve, and you’ll get ample time to pursue your interests while studying one the side.

The college clubs and societies will provide you with a platform to enhance your personality. You’ll become self reliant, and learn to get things done with limited resources.

The college is located in the center of Bhopal, and all the necessities are easily accessible. Bhopal has everything, from beautiful lakes to the lively New Market. You can enjoy tea at Mata Mandir, and also eat at fancy restaurants in the DB City Mall.

The 650 acre campus is especially beautiful during the rainy season, when there is greenery all around. The academics is good compared to other similar NITs. The labs are old, but the new classrooms are good. The college placements are great, and Bhopal will give you easy access to coaching centers for GATE, UPSC, CAT, etc.

MANIT Bhopal is a good place which offers ample freedom and lots of opportunities. You can consider this college for higher studies.
