This is a bit of a subjective question. An M.tech from the IITs won’t help in your IES preparation in any way. So both the paths are very different.
If you decide upon pursuing an M.Tech, then IIT Kharagpur will be an ideal choice. The M.tech program from IIT Kharagpur is one the best among the IITs. Here you will get to learn in-depth concepts of your preferred specialization.
You will also get to develop an academic mindset. The faculty is kind and helpful. They will encourage you to write papers and publish them. You will have the option either to go for a Phd or to apply for jobs at top companies. Because of IIT Kharagpur’s vast industry network, you will get to sit for the interviews of top companies. If you perform well in these interviews, you will have a chance to get placed in a top brand.
As an M.Tech student of IIT KGP, I can assure you of the excellence of my college in the field of engineering. You won’t regret the decision of choosing IIT Kharagpur for your higher studies.
Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) has been ranked 10th and 11th in the categories engineering and overall by the NIRF rankings in 2019. Both institutes being IITs are among the best in the country for Computer Science Engineering. Being IITs, both institutes have the same curriculum, fees, and similar infrastructure facilities. However, IIT BHU ranks a touch above its counterpart. Placement packages offered at BHU are also better than Bhubaneshwar, making it the better choice. The choice between the shall also depend on the preferred city.
As a current student at KIET, my opinion is that the IT branch at KIET is better than that at AKG.
The IT branch has excellent labs and an amazing faculty. You’ll get all sorts of facilities that a department needs. A variety of workshops, seminars, conferences, and guest lectures are organized regularly.
The placement rates have been consistently good over the past 5-6 years. In 2023, the IT branch's placement percentage was about 93.81%. The highest and average CTC stood at INR 48.89 LPA and INR 6.78 LPA respectively. The major recruiters at the IT branch in KIET are Cognizant, Infosys, Flipkart, Amazon, PWC and many others.
There are many dropouts every year from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur. This is because there is intense academic pressure on the students at the IITs. The IITs have strict academics, and the huge coursework can be very overwhelming for the students.
The students are under constant pressure to produce the best results. This causes most of them to suffer and eventually drop out. They face burnout and stress, which is why they take such a big step.
Another reason is that some students enter the IITs with unrealistic expectations. These are obviously not met, so they choose to drop out. Some students also take this step because of financial difficulties and family emergencies. Then there are students who get good job opportunities, and so they choose to drop out during their PG or doctoral degrees. There is also a group of students who take this step to follow their passions, as they come to realize that IITs were not their dream after all.
These are the most common reasons why students end up dropping out from top IITs like IIT Delhi and IIT KGP.
Chennai Institute of Technology (CIT) is an industry-linked autonomous institute located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 2010 and offers a co-educational engineering program.
Lovely Professional University (LPU), on the other hand, is a large campus in India located in Punjab. It offers a wide range of programs including CPE.
Overall, Manipal University seems to have an advantage in terms of placements, campuses and alumni network.
It is tough to compare IIT Kanpur, IIT Bhubaneshwar, and ISM Dhanbad. Still, being a Btech student from IIT Kanpur I think I’m better positioned to tell you the best according to my experience.
Faculty: IIT Kanpur boasts a highly qualified and experienced faculty, many of whom have obtained their PhDs from top institutions worldwide.
Research: Faculty members are actively involved in cutting-edge research and frequently publish in top international journals. They receive numerous national and international awards.
Industry: Professors often have strong connections with the industry, leading to collaborations, consulting projects, and opportunities for students to engage in real-world problem-solving.
So, in my opinion, you should go with IIT Kanpur as it is also known for its best-in-class education, and IIT Kanpur ranked 5 in the NIRF 2023 ranking list.
You can choose IIT Bhubaneswar for an MTech in Mechanical Engineering. The placement record for the branch is great. L&T ECC, Belcan, and Maruti Suzuki are some of the major recruiters of the branch. Many non-core companies take part in the placement as well.,
According to the recent highlights of IIT Bhubaneswar placements, MTech Mechanical students receive an average CTC of around INR 15 LPA.
There are a number of clubs at Jai Hind College in Mumbai that are worth joining. These include the following:
If you ask me, I think you should opt for Mechanical at IIT Bhubaneswar rather than choosing ED at IITM. I am saying this not because I am a student of IIT Bhubaneswar but because of the high academic standards the institute maintains.
The acceptance rate of UofT is not the most welcoming which is obvious by the fact of it being a top ranked Institute. Once you get into UToronto, the actual struggle is to survive there. It has been ranked 29th by QS World University Ranking, 2020 University of Toronto is quite competitive to get into. Acceptance rate varies from program to program. Average acceptance rate of the University is 43% which comes down to 23.1% for International students.
If you manage to score an average of 87-90 in your 6 major subjects and have a good resume, you will have a pretty high chance of getting here. Better the grade, higher is your chance of getting accepted. Ultimately it depends on the branch to which you seek your admission at, less the competition higher is the acceptance rate.
However it must be mentioned that getting into the University is not a huge deal when compared to surviving after the first year and getting your desired majors.
Statistics of accepted students:
It must be kept in mind that getting into University of Toronto is much easier than surviving there for a second year. The freshman retention rate of the University lies around 85-90%
