What is your most interesting interview experience during placements at IIT Kanpur?

SN
Saugata Nayak Posted On : April 19th, 2023
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2020)

One of my friends had a really interesting experience of a stress interview. A few interesting points from the interview are

  • The interviewer asked him to introduce himself in not more than 30 secs
  • Next, they asked him why he chose finance and if he had any knowledge of the same. He had to answer this in 120 secs
  • Next, they asked him to solve a puzzle which he solved easily. They asked him why he chose to waste their time when he knew the answer. He told them he wanted to showcase his communication skills which are very important in that profession
  • Amazingly enough, they asked him how to kill a giraffe. His quick answer humored them.
  • Lastly, an interviewer threw his resume to his face and asked him to sell it back to him in 120 secs. Cleverly, he blotted some ink in the paper and asked if he would buy the beautiful pattern framed in 30 rupees to which both the interviewers were impressed.

They were so happy and impressed that they decided to offer him a role that wasn’t open for campus placements even. My brother says that this interview experience was like no other he had.

Which is better for doing an MBA BIMTECH or IMU?

RA
Reeti Agarwal Posted On : September 15th, 2021
PGDM from Birla Institute of Management Technology (2019)

I am not familiar with the specialization in which you want to do your MBA. Comparing BIMTECH and IMU is not justified, it is like comparing apples with oranges.

IMU offers two MBA programs:

  • MBA in Port and Shipping Management
  • MBA in International Transportation and Logistics Management.

BIMTECH offers PGDM (equivalent to MBA) programs in the following streams –

  • Retail Management
  • International Business (Human Resource, Operations and Decision Science, Finance, Marketing)
  • PGDM Core ( Human Resource, Operations and Decision Science, Finance, Marketing)
  • Insurance Business Management
Categories MBA at BIMTECH MBA at IMU
Course Fee 9-12 lakh 4 lakh
Highest CTC 15 LPA 13 LPA
Average CTC 7-8 LPA 6 LPA
Recruiting Companies American Express, Infosys, Google, Pantaloons, etc. Goodwood, Posh, Ocean Sparkle, Aurus, etc.

I believe that you must first decide your interest in specialization and then proceed with the choice of colleges.

How is it that IIIT Bangalore has much better placements than the CSE department of most of the top 10 NITs and still the cutoff is 8500? I mean it has a median salary of 15.9LPA then why so?

Namrata Das Posted On : October 10th, 2023

First, let us discuss some reasons for the high placement records of IIIT Bangalore CSE department-

  1. IIIT Bangalore does not believe in the system of mugging before an exam and filling out the answer sheets.
  2. The curriculum is updated every few years, and assignments and projects are an important part of all courses.
  3. Unlike the NITs, IIITB won’t make you study irrelevant subjects in your first year. You’ll study only the subjects relevant to your CSE degree from the beginning itself.
  4. You’ll learn basic CS in the first few semesters. The rest of the semesters will be utilized in teaching you advanced topics like ML, AI, CV, NLP, etc.

Now the reasons for low cutoffs, despite high placements are-

  1. It is a public-private co-owned college. This is why its fees are much higher in comparison to NITs.
  2. The admissions are completely merit-based. This increases the availability of seats.
  3. There can be a huge rank difference between the second last admission, and the last admission. So one should not judge the merit of a college based on its cutoff ranks.
  4. IIITs are comparatively new in this race. Even then, they are growing at a tremendous speed.
  5. IIITB offers limited courses. It offers iM.Tech instead of B.Tech.

These are the reasons why iM.Tech CSE cutoffs are so low at IIIT Bangalore, while their placement records are better than even top NITs.

How is the crowd at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering?

DR
Diksha Roy Posted On : May 5th, 2021
Studied at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering

A friend of mine used to study there. Here are a few snippets of his experience.

  • In the beginning, he had mixed feelings about the institute. He was skeptical about whether he had even reached the right college/crowd/culture or not.
  • My friend belongs to a small town and when he witnessed his college mates roaming around at 11 PM with their own vehicles, he wasn't sure whether he'd manage to get along with a single person there.
  • On the very first day of college, he managed to be friends with people from different states and other parts of Karnataka who were just as introverted and shy as he was. So, the kind of crowd would be fine, considering this.
  • A lot of people there take full advantage of the management quota, so expect rich kids flaunting their expensive bikes and other things as well.
  • Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering has an excellent atmosphere. A good number of events are carried out here where you would witness actors/actresses promoting their upcoming movies.
  • Make sure you are updated on the kind of social/cultural/technical events that take place so that you know which inter-college event to take part in.
  • The quality of education offered at the institute is average at best. You will have to do a lot of self-study in order to clear your concepts and secure a good job opportunity.

Hope this gives you an idea of what kind of crowd to expect at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering.

What is the average package for a UPTU AKTU pass out student Is it better to join AKTU than private colleges like LPU and SRM?

SA
Swaranita Arora Posted On : October 22nd, 2021
Studies Electrical Engineering at AKTU, 2021

If you have been acquainted with institutes affiliated with AKTU, like, A.K Garg, KIET, ABES, NIET, GNIT, ITS Engineering College, G.L Bajaj, and others, then you should know that there are several companies that visit the campus, yet at times, the packages seem to vary. The average package is about INR 2.2 LPA to 3.2 LPA.

However, there are several students who grab packages above average, ranging from between INR 4.5 LPA to 6 LPA. Most of these packages are bagged by Computer Science and IT students since their demand is surfacing drastically every day.

Now, if comparing on various important parameters, then both the institutes can be bifurcated in two ways,

  1. AKTU/UPTU: If you are efficient, you can receive one of the best packages in the market. The training and placement cell, in addition, are consistently working with great attention to help students secure a good position in the industrial market.

  2. LPU and SRM: The only major criteria that make both universities stand out is their campuses. Having numerous lab amenities, established infrastructure, and fancy canteen areas. Academically speaking, LPU still offers practical knowledge on different spectrums, and also additionally conducts intercollegiate technical events.

It depends on which of the aspects suits you the most.

AS
Anubhav Sinha Posted On : July 23rd, 2021
B.Tech, M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2018)

One of my friends is an alumnus of IIT Madras and according to him, Professor V. Balakrishnan’s classes are must-experience classes at IIT Madras. However, he is not sure whether Prof. Balakrishnan teaches whole courses these days.

My friend was very fond of Prof. Balakrishnan and according to him, if you hear from any of your friends in the Engineering Physics/ Physics Grad stream that Prof. V. Balakrishnan is giving a guest lecture, make sure you attend it. You will learn something new and will be inspired.

The introductory part of the Indian edition of the Feynman Lectures was written by Prof. V. Balakrishnan if I am not wrong. You can read about him on Wikipedia. You will also find some of his finest lectures on YouTube.

His is classes on Quantum Mechanics and Dynamical Systems were my friend’s favorite.
