What is your honest review of IIM Lucknow?

AM
Aziz Manva Posted On : January 9th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore (Graduated 2020)

My honest review of IIM Lucknow is that no matter what gibberish you hear about it, it’s one of the best B Schools out there. The outstanding balance of ambiance, infrastructure, library, faculty, and a student-gender ratio ensures that you focus on your goals and studies completely.

My friend recently passed out from this institute and says that she has learned a lot from it. It has taught her to stay tight on her goals and not complain about tiny things. It has taught her to have realistic expectations and goals and how to achieve them.

The deadlines and rigor keep you on your toes and helps you acquire amazing time-management and pressure-handling skills.

Also, the batch at IIM Lucknow is very interactive and friendly so you won’t feel left out and end up making some friends for life.

DB

Studied at National Institute of Technology Silchar (2019)

B.Tech CSE from NIT Silchar is a good choice. Here are some parameters to assess it-

  • Coursework - The CSE coursework at NIT Silchar is relevant and up-to-date. But the teachers won’t guide you much. You will have to rely on online courses and videos. During your first year, you’ll have just one CS subject which will cover C language and the basic fundamentals of C++. During the 4th year, you will have specialization courses like Data Mining, Neural Networks, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Image Processing, Machine Learning, Speech Processing, Wireless Networks, Cryptography and Cloud Computing.
  • Facilities- NIT Silchar campus has high speed internet facilities. In the CSE department, you will have 24-hour lab access with assigned PCs to work on. There is a SuperComputing Center as well. It can be used during your projects when you will need high processing speeds. The NITS coding club is very active. The CSE department has its own society which is called the Computer Science Society. It organizes workshops, seminars, and offers regular updates on the latest developments in the field of Computer Science.
  • Placements- The placement scenario at NITS is quite good for CSE students. Top companies visit the campus with tech and other job offers. The major recruiters for CSE department include- Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon, DE Shaw & Co, Infosys, Deloitte, and ITC Limited among others.

Thus, you can definitely consider NIT Silchar for your B.Tech CSE course.

What are Mithibai College degree timings?

NR
Nina Rajput Posted On : January 14th, 2022
B.Sc. Statistics from Mithibai College (2019)

The timing for degree college students are alloted according to their degree.

The timings for respective degree classes are as follow:

First Year : 11:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Second and Third Year : 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM

These timings are for science stream students only.

For Arts and Commerce students the timing is the same but the time range varies as their subjects do not have practicals. Their lectures get over before the science stream students.

BMS and some other un-aided departments have lectures between 12 PM and 2:40 PM for the first or third-year students. Science students usually have lectures from 7–11 AM, followed by practicals till 4 PM which can extend upto 5 PM.

How is chemical engineering in NIT DURGAPUR?

GJ
Gagan Jain Posted On : September 7th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Durgapur

As an alumnus of B.Tech Chemical at NIT Durgapur, I will throw some light on the faculty and placements of our course.

The faculty of Chemical Engineering is good. Some professors help students find internships in industries and research institutes. They are- Dr. Tamal Mandal,

Dr. P P Gupta, Dr. S. Dutta, Dr. JP Sarkar, and Dr. S Haldar.

Some professors aren’t very strict on attendance. They are- Dr. Jaya Sikder, Dr. Swapan Paruya, Dr. M K Mandal, Dr. Bimal Das and Dr. Gopinath Haldar.

My favorite professor is Dr. P Pal. He has a deep knowledge of his field and great teaching skills.

Now, coming over to placements. The students are placed both on campus and off campus. As per the official data, 83.33% of students from B.Tech Chemical were placed at an average salary of INR 8.87 LPA during the 2023 placement season. The placements are good overall.

NIT Durgapur is a decent college for Chemical Engineering. You will have a good time here.

Why is NIT Silchar devoid of the repo that other NIT's get?

SG
Sudipta Ghose Posted On : August 25th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Silchar (2020)

There are a number of reasons why NIT Silchar does not enjoy a good reputation like other NITs. The remote location and poor connectivity seem to be the major factors contributing to the poor reputation. Other major reasons are

  • Low Cutoffs: The institute has very low cutoffs and thus the quality of students admitted is also average. For BTech CSE Home State the cutoff is 21683 while for Other States it is 10645.
  • Alumni network: The alumni network is the backbone of any college that guides the current students and also speaks of the college's worth. NIT Silchar has no such alumni network and there is no connection between alumni and students. Moreover, successful alumni working in MNCs don't prefer giving credit to NIT Silchar for their achievements and attribute it to their graduate school.
  • Infrastructure: Another reason for its bad reputation is the poor infrastructure and lack of good quality journal publications from students or professors.
  • Recruiters:  Usually, PSUs visit the campus for placements as NIT Silchar is not famous among the private ones.

All the above factors combined have resulted in a poor reputation of NIT Silchar in comparison to other NITs.

Which is better for biotechnology: IIT Guwahati or IIT Roorkee?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : May 5th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

In my opinion, IIT Roorkee is a better option for Engineering in Biotechnology. This department was established in 2002 and is a subdomain of Chemical Engineering. Over the past few years, it has grown by leaps and bounds in every aspect. It has excellent connections with good pharma companies. IDPL, Rishikesh is very close to Roorkee. Additionally, Delhi and the NCR cities like Gurgaon, Noida, and Faridabad which are home to many pharma companies are in close proximity to the Institute. The placement scenario of Biotechnology at IIT Roorkee has been decent till now. The faculty is very approachable and helps you secure internships.

How is Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology in terms of academics and facilities?

PS

Studied at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University Of Technology (MAKAUT)

In terms of academics and facilities, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology isn’t good. The syllabus and the curriculum are outdated. The examination and evaluation system is flawed. Mugging up the syllabus right before the examination is sufficient to score 8-pointers. Placements usually depend on the college. Usually, IT companies visit the campus placements of the university.

Studied at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ )

My cousin is studying at the newly started IT branch. She thinks it is actually a good one.

  • The placements at the IT branch are as good as CSE and ECE.

  • The faculty is almost the same as that of CSE.

  • The academics and curriculum are fairly good at this branch.

So if you get into the IT branch at NIT Jalandhar it’s a good opportunity.

Which will be better for electrical engineering, out of IIT Indore and Ropar?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : June 17th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both the institutes are well-regarded in the field of technical education but if I had to choose one, I would have gone for IIT Indore without any second thoughts. Here’s why

  • The ACM ICPC team and the impressive coding culture have made IIT Indore one of the most preferred IITs among coding lovers. You will be surprised to know that Team Paradigm Shift of IIT-I was ranked 1st in India making it known globally.
  • The research culture is another major reason I would choose IIT Indore. It has been rated highest among the IITs for the amount of research work going on and some of its research work has been published in the top magazines of the world.
  • The IIT Indore is working with CERN and also helping NASA with a certain project.
  • IIT Indore has the best faculty that encourages research work in every possible way.
  • The hostel and campus facilities are at another level. The apartments have brought great changes in the accommodation of its students
  • The institute enjoys the locational advantage of being in the only city that has both IIT and IIM.
  • Big companies like Infosys and TCS are establishing their offices in Indore and are expected to deliver 5000 jobs in the coming 5–6 years.
  • The curriculum is overseen by IIT- Bombay, the mentor IIT of IIT Indore so it's the best in the country with a plethora of electives to choose from.
  • FLUXUS, the annual fest of IIM Indore is central India's biggest cultural and technical fest.

All these points are more than enough to convince you to choose IIT Indore over IIT Ropar.
