What is the scope in chemical engineering at BIT, Mesra in terms of placement and package?

AG
Ankit Ghose Posted On : April 17th, 2021
BIT Mesra (2018)

BIT Mesra offers 2 undergraduate and 1 postgraduate program in chemical engineering; BE in Chemical Engineering, BE in Chemical Engineering (Plastics and Polymer), and ME in Chemical Engineering.

  • If we look at the overall chemical engineering ecosystem in India, it is not very good. There are very few private chemical companies in India.
  • The curriculum of the programs is very old and has not been updated to meet the 21st-century demands.
  • Thus the engineers being produced by the colleges in India are also below par.
  • Close to 95% of the chemical engineering graduates from tier-3 engineering colleges work in service companies with an annual salary of 2-3 lakhs.

The recent placement statistics for Chemical Engineering at the institute are as follows.

Average CTC

7.5 LPA

Major Recruiters

Reliance, Birla, Tata Steel

Hope this gives you an idea about the course.

How is the chemical engineering department at NIT Rourkela?

AB
Ankita Bhattacharya Posted On : January 15th, 2022
B.Tech Chemical Engineering & American Chemical Society, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2021)

According to the student’s reviews online, you should not opt for chemical engineering at NIT Rourkela.

Here are some reasons as to why:

  • The faculty of the department is not good, they are mostly new at their jobs and have very little educational experience.
  • They focus more on theoretical learning than practicals.
  • They prefer when students mug up theories rather than understanding them in depth.
  • The teachers sometimes give so many assignments that it becomes impossible to complete them in time.
  • There is a lot of communication gap between students and teachers.

Lastly, the placement scenario of this department is bad. Most of the students are going into the IT sector and a very few got recruited in core industries and many students did not even receive placement offers.

So considering everything it is suggested you do not pursue chemical engineering at NIT Rourkela.

RS
Radhika Singh Posted On : August 21st, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) (2019)

Both NIT Warangal and BITS Hyderabad/Goa are enormous and well-known colleges. If you choose either of them for a particular field it will be worth it. Just make sure of that in whichever college you are, give your best and you shall lead to success.

Both the colleges stand equally in terms of academics and placement statistics.

  • In terms of exposure, opportunities, research and peer interaction in BITS specifically are much more than NIT Warangal.
  • BITS embolden you to go for a long project for one semester in your final year in any part of the world. This is the main point of BITS that keeps it ahead of NIT.
  • Otherwise, you can experience almost the same in both the colleges in terms of career.
  • If you want to experience great college life, full of freedom, industrial exposure, and quality education, you can go for either of them.
  • In case you are looking for a good return on your investment, you then have to take the benefits of a government institution.
Categories Chemical Engineering at NIT Warangal Chemical Engineering at BITS (Hyderabad/Goa)
Course Fee 5.00 lakh 19.19 lakh
Highest CTC 20 LPA 25 LPA
Average CTC 7 LPA 10 LPA

SL
Sachin Lakhani Posted On : January 19th, 2022
B.Tech Chemical Engineering, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar (2020)

According to the reviews online, here are some of the facts about both these colleges, and which one will be the better choice for pursuing chemical engineering.

  • Nirma University’s cut off is higher than PDPU.
  • Nirma is a much more established and experienced college than PDPU.
  • Both colleges have highly qualified and cooperative faculty members.
  • The laboratories of PDPU are much more well maintained and upgraded than Nirma, as it is much younger compared to Nirma.
  • The labs in PDPU are all facilitated with modern and updated machinery, required for practicals.
  • PDPU has a complete air-conditioned campus, whereas in Nirma some classes are not fully air conditioned.
  • PDPU being a comparatively newer institution has better, well maintained infrastructure than Nirma.
  • PDPU gives students the proper industrial exposure. They conduct events like ‘International Conference on Chemical Industry (ICCI)’, which happens only in the Chemical Department, no other department has organised a grand event in the last 5 years.
Categories Nirma University PDPU
Course Fee INR 7.24 lakh INR 9.73 lakh
Placement Percentage 70% 80%
Highest CTC 13 LPA 8-12 LPA
Average CTC 6-7 LPA 7-7.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies Reliance, L&T, Worley Engineering, Jubilant Life Sciences, etc. Super Gas, GSFC, Thermax, DCM Shriram, etc.

Therefore, it is suggested that you go for PDPU if fees are not your primary concern. Students at PDPU will definitely get better opportunities for chemical engineering than Nirma. Even if Nirma is a more experienced institution, the newer approach of PDPU will always help you get accustomed to the functioning in today’s industries.

AR

B.E. Electronics and Instrumentation., St. Joseph's College of Engineering (2019)

For Chemical Engineering, St. Joseph Engineering College is average at best.

  • The lab facilities are decent. But you will have to follow many rules if you want to access the equipment.
  • The college is strict regarding its attendance rule. So, you will face problems, if you want to participate in events and extra-curricular activities.
  • The evaluation system is not good.

St. Joseph is a decent option for Chemical Engineering. But if you have better choices, go for them.
