What is the weightage given to previous academic records by XLRI, FMS, and IIFT during admission process?

ST
Shubham Tiwari Posted On : May 27th, 2021
studied at Xavier School of Management

IIFT Delhi does not give weightage to your performance in academics. Your admission will mainly depend on how well you perform in the written exam and GD-PI WAT. The entrance exam carries a weightage of around 65%, however, final admission will be given on cut-off.

As far as XLRI is concerned, the GP-PI call is highly based on what percentile you land up within the XAT. The cutoff is 95 percentile for the BM program and 93 percentile for HRM for male candidates. For females, this is 93 percentile for BM and 91 for the HRM program. But, when the college prepares the final merit list, 5% weightage is also given to past academics.

Overall, it is advisable to have a minimum of 60% score in your graduate exams so it does not hinder your future plans.

How is your daily routine at PGIMS Rohtak? What are your class timings and your timetable?

MS
Mehak Sharma, Posted On : October 3rd, 2023
MBBS from Pt. B.D. Sharma PGIMS Rohtak (2022)

The daily routine at PGIMS Rohtak depends on the ongoing events, class schedule, class tests, and your interests. One of my close friends shared his routine as a 1st year MBBS student at PGIMS Rohtak

His day began around 6 in the morning. He liked jogging for about 45 minutes in the huge playground after which he would go for Babubhai's tea.

He would take a bath by 7:30 AM and then have tea again in the mess.

By 8:00 AM he would get ready for college and head to the mess for breakfast. After breakfast, he would reach the college at 8:50 AM. Sometimes the ECE Physiology classes start at 8:00 AM so the mess starts at 7:00 AM.

The duration of the first batch of classes is 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Usually, the following schedule is followed

  • Physiology classes on Monday
  • Biochemistry classes on Wednesday & Friday
  • Histology classes on Thursday
  • Dissection Hall on other days

From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 2 lectures each of 1 hour mostly of Anatomy and Physiology or Biochemistry take place.

The lunch break starts from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The food served is delicious.

Next, a practical class of either Anatomy or Physiology or AETCOM takes place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The class schedule also keeps changing but you got the idea.

4 p.m. marks the end of the day for the students. You can do whatever you want. Some students like to visit the market to buy groceries while some prefer sleeping. Some play sports while some bookworms spend their time in the library. Dinner is served around 8:00 PM after which students head to their rooms. This pretty much sums up my daily routine at PGIMS Rohtak.

Raghavendra Sachdeva Posted On : April 12th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

There are some common blunders that first-year students tend to make.

  • Underestimating the value of CG is a crucial mistake made by first-year students. Remember that your CG will play an important role in shaping your career and taking it lightly initially will cost you double the trouble in the following years.
  • Socialize with everyone and don’t skip Watch-Out, Kshitij tryouts. Either get an editorial post or join a Literary group on campus.
  • Work for Cogni instead of Thomso as it provides better networking
  • Don’t tolerate ragging at any cost
  • Don’t fall for bad company or bad habits as they will ruin your learning process
  • Don’t challenge the professors much as it might counterattack you.
  • Don’t get into fights or anything that gets you a blot in your CV

Which engineering college is best for a CSE in Rajasthan, Jaipur National University, Arya College or Poornima University?

NS
Nikita Sharma Posted On : October 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Poornima College of Engineering (2020)

Getting a degree is not just the only thing, and you have to consider a number of aspects before picking a college or a university. Talking about these three colleges, you should choose Poornima University. Here’s mentioning some reasons as to why:

  • The prime reason is the above-average placement.
  • At Poornima University, the majority of the students get placed during the campus placement itself.
  • The college has good infrastructure and arguably one of the most vital factors is affordability.
  • Other colleges ask you for hefty fees which is not the case with Poornima University.
  • It does not charge an unnecessary amount of money in the name of comfort and luxury.
Categories CSE at Poornima University
Course Fee 5.45 lakhs
Placement Percentage 70%
Highest CTC 12 LPA
Average CTC 3-4 LPA
Recruiting Companies Wipro, TCS, Reliance, CTS, etc.

You should choose your college wisely and not in an ambiguous state. This is a very important step of your life and you should be caring enough to not mess it up.

Which is better in terms of a better study environment, academic quality and faculty GBPUAT Pantnagar or GBPEC Pauri Garhwal?

RS
Rajesh Sharma, Posted On : November 1st, 2021
B.Tech from Uttarakhand Technical University (2017)

It is recommended that you do not opt for GBPEC Pauri. Here are some reasons why:

  • It lacks basic life amenities and you won't be able to get proper medical facilities.
  • Availability of water will be a big problem.
  • The hygiene level of mess and hostels here is extremely low.
  • The faculty and quality of education are not at par with GBPUAT or even DIT.
  • GBPUAT Pantnagar is a better college than GBPEC Pauri in terms of infrastructure, location, and faculty.
  • The administration is suffering from internal politics and no attention is given to student grievances.

You can rather go for DIT or GEU Dehradun which will provide a comparatively better environment and facilities.

What should I choose, VJTI for Computer Science or BITS Goa for Chemical?

A
Admin Posted On : May 13th, 2024

My friend also faced the dilemma of choosing between VJTI and BITS Goa. He ended up choosing VJTI because of the following reasons.

  • VJTI offers a renowned CS curriculum with a strong focus on practical learning.
  • BITS Goa may have a higher average salary during placement, but placements for CS at VJTI are also pretty solid. A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now in 2024. The highest package was secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA with the average package being INR 20 LPA.
  • VJTI has strong industry connections and easily offers students research and internship opportunities in top firms.
  • BITS Goa also offer most of such programs in dual degree format which may be uncomfortable for some students.
  • Mumbai being a tech hub can also be beneficial as VJTI CS students are to an ecosystem of networking opportunities and jobs.

What is the procedure to change branch after first year in IET Lucknow?

RB
Ranjeet Baranwal Posted On : August 4th, 2021
Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (2019)

IET Lucknow offers a chance to some students to change their branch based on their first-year academic performance.

  • The dean of academics gives a notice regarding the branch change after your first year.
  • You have to fill up the required form and thereafter a panel will evaluate your application based on various factors such as seat availability in your branch of choice, your academic performance in the previous year, etc.
  • Finally, after about a week they will tell you about the status of your request.
  • Usually, a CGPA of 8.5 or above in your first year is enough to help you change your branch.
  • But it depends on the candidate pool and the branch itself.

I think it is quite easy to score more than 8.5 CGPA at IET Lucknow but that also makes the competition tough.

What advice would you give to a first-year CSE student at Thapar University?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : August 4th, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Here are a few simple pieces of advice my brother in his second year at Thapar University would like to give to first-year CSE students

  • Choose your company wisely as they will be your motivators and friends for 4 years
  • It's not necessary to hit the gym daily.
  • Prepare ED 1, ED 2, CP 1, CP 2, and  Maths 1 subjects well as they are extremely scoring and will help you upscale your grades.
  • Don’t get detained in Mechanics or Electricafor l.
  • In the first year, you can easily score an 8.5+ GPA by studying a week prior to your exams. So focus on exploring everything.
  • Score the highest in sessionals so that your burden in EndSem is less.
  • Don't be demotivated if you lack coding skills, rather work on them relentlessly.
  • You can sit for most companies if you score a GPA of 8.5+

Lastly, enjoy your college life, it never comes back!

Which College should I Choose? VGEC, LJ, Charusat, MSU, or DDU?

CS
Chandrima Sethia Posted On : October 13th, 2021
Studied at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College (2016)

One of my friends studied from VGEC. According to him, the institute is not worth taking admission as branches such as IT and CS are also not good here. MSU and DDU are both really good colleges. The colleges are well known.

  • There hasn’t been any major change in the institution of VGEC in recent years.
  • Although, the aspirants may look for a second opinion from any recently studying student of this college.
  • The placements of both MSU and DDU are good.
  • Both of them can’t be ranked, as they both are equally good.
  • As MSU is located in Baroda, it gives a slight edge as there are a lot of companies in Baroda.
  • The IT market at Nadiad is not so flourished, thus placement can be unsure at DDU Nadiad.
  • Baroda on the other hand, has some really good IT companies, both product and service based.

One good thing is that both MSU and DDU are deemed. The campus is really good. The teaching faculties are extremely supportive. There are lots of examinations conducted, thus students need to work really hard.
