What is the student life like at NIT Surathkal?
One of my cousins shared his experience of life at NIT Surathkal. Here are some highlights of his delightful experience.
- It’s not very difficult to maintain a good CGPA at NIT Surathkal provided that you attend the tests and exams regularly.
- Boys have almost no time restrictions and they can roam around the campus even late at night.
- Your wingmates become your best friends. They become a group with whom you hang out, have lunch, study, and share your life problems with.
- The mess food is hardly edible so most students eat at NC or Night Canteen beyond midnight. NC gets crowded during late-night football matches.
- You can join clubs and connect with like-minded people. They provide the right platform to grow technically and socialize.
- Students visit the temple and also sit next to the beach for hours on the weekend enjoying the peaceful and serene view. This is a great stress buster from daily activities.
So, NIT Surathkal offers an excellent campus life which is a blend of both freedom and academics. You can enjoy the freedom and maintain a good GPA with minimal effort.
What should I prefer, a PSU or an M Tech? How is an M Tech at IISC Bangalore? Also, which PSUs recruit fo3r R&D sectors through the GATE?
These questions need to be answered step-wise:
- What should you prefer, a PSU or an M.Tech- Analyze your strengths and weaknesses and make a decision based on your preferences. If you go by what others say, you might not be satisfied with the result in the future. Some people join the workforce after their matriculation but their hard work makes them reach senior-level management positions. You need to choose between a PSU or an M.Tech, both are equally good options but it is your individual preference that is of significance.
- How is an M.Tech at IISc Bangalore- M.Tech from IISc Bangalore is a good choice if you wish to go for your Ph.D.
However, if you do not wish to get into research after your PG and instead plan to join the workforce, I would suggest you to rather go for IIT Bombay or IIT Kharagpur.
- Which PSUs recruit for R&D sectors through GATE: You can check the advertisements of a particular company. Most of the time companies mention the roles for which they require candidates. Go for an M.Tech from an IIT as it will improve your chances of securing a position in the R&D sector. The chances of getting a job in the R&D sector after an M.Tech get high.
Thus, I have made an effort to give you my perspective on this question and share my knowledge to help you make a more informed choice.
Do IIT Guwahati CSE students get similar opportunities for foreign university/company internships compared to IIT Bombay?
My friend was a CS student at IIT Guwahati and he failed to secure a summer internship. According to him, only 3 students from the entire batch of CS second-year students got foreign internship offers. When he asked his friends at IIT Bombay about the same, he came to know that 6 students had got foreign internship offers.
There are a number of reasons why older IITs offer more opportunities than II Guwahati. Let’s explore some of these reasons
- Unlike IIT Guwahati, older IITs have collaborations with top foreign universities. For example, IIT Kanpur’s SURGE program has tie-ups with Caltech and provides funds for undergraduate internships.
- Professors are ready to accept students for internships but the lack of funds makes it impossible to secure a paid foreign internship.
- Another major problem is the lack of focus on research at IIT Guwahati. Students at IIT Bombay have completed great research projects whereas IIT Guwahati students have no research accomplishments up their sleeve. Their CV is extremely lacking and does not fetch good packages.
All in all, the department doesn't encourage foreign internships and older IITs offer way better opportunities compared to IIT Guwahati.
Which is better, NIT Trichy (EEE), NIT Surathkal (ECE), or IIIT Allahabad (CSE)?
EEE from NIT Trichy is the best option. NIT Trichy’s EEE department is well known and is highly demanded by the students. However, choosing your specialisation also depends on your area of interest. If your interest lies in electrical gadgets, their working, power supply and all those related things then only pursue this course. Always remember that you will have to take up this degree for four years and if you do not enjoy it then you will never learn from it. In NIT Trichy, you will get to learn about the subject as well as experience it through the different practical sessions. You will be encouraged to work on your projects and create something new.
Is IIIT Hyderabad even better than IIT, Mumbai?
For CSE, IIIT Hyderabad is better than all IITs, in terms of research, internships, packages, etc. In 2021, IIIT Hyderabad placements had witnessed the highest CTC of INR 56 LPA. The coding culture at the institute is unbeatable.

For branches other than CSE, IIT B is definitely the better choice. The institute has great facilities, extracurricular, and placements.
How is student life at VNIT Nagpur?
The student life at VNIT Nagpur is decent.
However, sometimes the internet facilities on campus do not work properly. This is quite troubling.
The mess food is good. Apart from that, the college playground is also good. The playground is filled with students in the evening. Almost everyone in the hostel sleeps late at night. On weekends, an all-nighter is quite common.
The student life at VNIT is good. I’ve already mentioned the annoying aspects, as well as some things that are good about this college.
How much should I get in 12th and the JEE Mains to get a BTech CSE at IIIT Delhi?
IIIT Delhi follows a scheme of bonus marks. These marks are awarded for excellence in academics, sports, olympiads, etc.
The top 1% performers in the 12th CBSE boards are awarded bonus scores. To apply for bonus marks through academics, you must be a Delhi candidate. Without bonus marks, only your JEE Mains rank is considered.
Here are the ranks for CSE at IIIT Delhi:
- With 6 bonus marks, 9-10k rank.
- With 10 bonus marks, 13-14k rank.
- With no bonus marks, 5-6k rank.
A bonus percentile of 2/3.5 will be directly added to your JEE Mains percentile.
Eligibility for B.Tech at IIIT Delhi is-
- A minimum of 80 marks in Maths.
- 80% in best 5 (including PCM) in 12th boards.
These are the requirements to get a B.Tech CSE at IIIT Delhi.
How is ECE in NIT Silchar, in terms of labs, teacher, and placement. What is the campus culture in NIT Silchar?
You will experience an amazing life as a student of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Silchar. I will go through all the aspects you have mentioned one by one
Labs:
- The labs of the ECE department are equipped with modern instruments and facilities.
- The lab attendees are usually M.Tech. and Ph.D. students who are eager to teach their juniors. They are passionate about research and are very approachable.
- There aren't any restrictions on timings and you can go to the lab anytime between 9 am-8 pm.
Teachers:
- The teachers of the ECE branch are very calm and guide you throughout.
- Students who are serious about their future and studies can approach the teacher who motivates and guides them in the same.
- The faculty is highly qualified and humble at the same time.
Placements:
- If you are someone who is committed to hard work and utilize your potential to the fullest then trust me the placements here won't disappoint you.
- The core placement opportunities are limited but this is the same in most of the institutes today. Mostly software services-based companies recruit NIT Silchar students. This is because the hardware industry in our country is not as developed as compared with the software industry.
- Last year ECE students at NIT Silchar received 120, the second highest offers after CSE. Out of 112, 87 students got placed.
- Don't focus much on the placement statistics rather focus on performing excellently and good packages will come and find you.

What is the process for filing an RTI for the rechecking of an exam paper in NSIT?
The process for filing an RTI for the rechecking of an exam paper at NSUT Delhi is as follows:
- Obtain the RTI application form from the official website of the Central Information Commission (CIC) or the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the institute.
- Fill in the form with your details and the information you are seeking.
- Pay the RTI fee, which is currently INR 10 in India.
- Submit the form along with the fee and any relevant documents to the PIO of the institute.
- The PIO will then process your request and respond within 30 days.
It's important to note that you must specify the reasons for seeking rechecking of the exam paper in your application. Also, it is advisable to keep a copy of the application and all the documents you submit.
Students are entitled to get a photocopy of their evaluated answer sheet under the RTI Act. The authorities may try to misuse some provisions of the act by refusing to give you the Xerox copy. But do not give up here!
Which branch is good at IIT Madras?
