Do students from IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI bunk classes like engineering students?
At IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI, attendance is seen as a crucial aspect of the learning experience. Every effort must be made to be present in class and to participate actively in the discussions. In fact, class participation is considered to be such an important factor in determining grades that a significant portion of the total course weightage is allocated to it. This system is in place to encourage students to be engaged in the learning process and to ensure that they are taking full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.
On the other hand, at IIT Kanpur, there is a more relaxed approach to attendance. While it is still advisable to attend classes and to be present for lectures, there is no strict requirement in place. This gives students more flexibility and allows them to choose when they want to attend classes based on their personal schedules or other commitments. It also means that engineering students are not penalized if they miss a class or two, as long as they are able to make up for it by participating in other ways, such as completing assignments or preparing for exams.
Overall, both B-schools and Engineering colleges have different approaches to attendance and class participation. While IIM Ahmedabad places a strong emphasis on being present in class and participating actively, IIT Kanpur takes a more relaxed approach. Ultimately, the choice between the two institutions will depend on the individual student's preferences and learning style.
Which one will be a better choice for an MSc in maths, IISc, ISI Kolkata, or IIT KGP?
While all three institutes are prestigious institutes, my sister chose ISI Kolkata for a number of reasons. Here are a few reasons
- ISI Kolkata is the best institute when it comes to Maths and it is ranked #1401+ in QS World University Rankings 2024. Its flagship course is B.Stat.
- In this modern era, Statistics is highly demanded and ISI opens opportunities in the same.
- The placement scenario of ISI Kolkata is at par with the top IITS. The average package recorded is INR 25.50 LPA while the highest stood at INR 89 LPA.
- The institute offers a full scholarship and currently, a number of ISI pass-outs are undergoing PhD programs in top foreign universities.
- ISI has no tuition fees except hostel fees. In fact, students get an annual scholarship of Rs. 36,000/-.
- The small batch size improved the student-teacher ratio as a result all students got individual attention.
- The accommodation facilities are great and students are allotted single occupancy rooms.
ISI Kolkata is a great option as it offers opportunities in both, jobs and higher education.
How difficult is it to crack the AFCAT?
First of all, the extent of questions asked in AFCAT has considerably changed over the past few years. It was a lot easier two to three years down the line.

Question Paper Pattern:
The question paper consists of 4 parts.
English (20–25 questions):
- Antonyms/Synonyms, Cloze Tests, Idioms, and Passage.
- You can install some GRE words apps like MAGOOSH and prepare them thoroughly.
General Studies (20–25 questions):
- It covers Current Affairs, Science everything.
- No amount of preparation is enough for getting a cent percent score in the GS part.
- Covers the last six months of current affairs from some GK capsule (SBI, IBPS, RBI, Insurance, and Other Bank Exam Preparation).
Quantitative Aptitude (15–20 questions):
- This is the easiest part and you will have 100% accuracy in this part.
- You just need to go through quantitative aptitude by RS Aggarwal Buy Quantitative Aptitude Book Online at Low Prices in India which is quite enough.
Logical Reasoning and Military Aptitude (25–30 questions):
A good practice is required for this section as sometimes questions are quite tricky. You can practice it online.
Hence, it is not very difficult to crack AFCAT. If you prepare well and practice previous years’ question papers you can easily qualify.
What should I choose between IIT-Kanpur CSE and IIT Madras CSE?
The best way is to break down various components and analyze each parameter individually.
Placements
- IIT Madras's average package in 2023 stood at INR 24.4 LPA while IIT Kanpur CSE highest package stood at 1.02 CPA.
Ranking
- IIT Kanpur was ranked 264th by the QS World University Rankings 2023 and #4 by NIRF for the year 2023 in the Engineering category whereas IIT Madras is ranked #1 by NIRF.
Campus
- IIT Madras has a 630 acres campus with many sports facilities like a gym, badminton courts, a swimming pool, and a cricket ground to name a few. The labs, library, and overall infrastructure are top-notch.
- IIT Kanpur is one of the biggest IIT campuses spread across 1000 acres. It has a dynamic campus life with many fests and activities. The library is huge and there is a club for everything.
Overall, IIT Madras seems to be in a better position than IIT Kanpur although both are excellent institutes of technical education.
Is it good to attend the IIIT Hyderabad's artificial intelligence and machine learning certification program? The course duration is 15 months and the cost is 1.5 to 2 lakhs.
One of my cousins took this course and loved the course right away. She was satisfied with the course structure and the delivery of the concepts. Here is what she stated regarding the program
- The concerned faculty is very learned and approachable. The students can talk to them and clear all their doubts.
- The peers in this particular program are from diverse backgrounds making it a more enriched experience.
- The students are evaluated on a frequent basis in the form of weekly tests, regular hackathons, and group and individual lab sessions.
- The lectures are extremely interactive and available in video form for future reference.
- The program is quite rigorous and requires immense dedication as you will be devoting all your weekends for 3 months.
Overall, she was very satisfied with the program and recommends it to everyone willing to become an AIML Professional. However, she added that one needs to be good at coding and have a knack for Python before taking up the program.
How do I convert SGPA to percentage under the new CBCS rules at DU?
There has been considerable confusion in Delhi University's grading system for a long time. The university proposed multiple adjustments before a proper method was finally implemented and made public. The SGPA calculator is used in the educational field to translate SGPA to percentage. The calculations are based on the student's overall performance on the corresponding semester exam in general courses.
To convert SGPA into a percentage, the following steps are being followed by the students:

The SGPA for each semester should be determined first.

Adding the semester-by-semester averages once you get them.

Subtracting the number of semesters you have taught from the total of the SGPAs.

Finally, calculate your SGPA by multiplying it by 10, then take 7.5 out of the result.
The CBCS System used at DU is Relative Grading rather than Absolute Grading.
Is IIT, Kharagpur the same as MIT or Harvard?
None of the IITs now compete with international institutions. IIT Kharagpur is a great option only if your future plans include moving to India. IITs are not as valuable as premier institutions in the US, UK, France, and Switzerland globally. There are various reasons for Harvard to stay in the upper hand that Indian institutions, they are as follows:
- Academic excellence: IIT Kharagpur is not ranked as one of the top engineering institutions in the world in terms of reputation or ranking. However, when looking at all elite colleges worldwide, Harvard University came in second place, which proves its academic excellence, faculty base as well and infrastructural abilities.
- World-Class Faculty: Some of the top business professors in the world teach at these institutions. Harvard professors are not only leaders in their disciplines but also frequently carry out ground-breaking research that advances our understanding of business.
- Scholarship and financial aid: Scholarships and financial assistance are available for deserving students, despite the fact that Harvard's tuition is more than that of IIT Kharagpur. Even the costs for lodging are included.
- Strong Alumni Base: Harvard University has an extensive and powerful global alumni network. This network might offer beneficial contacts and chances for professional success. Rahul Bajaj, CEO of Bajaj Auto, and Rajat Gupta, a former managing director of McKinsey & Company, are notable Indian graduates of Harvard Business School.

How is NIT PATNA for M.Tech.?
I completed my M.Tech in Microelectronics & VLSI Design from NIT Patna. From my specialization, NIT Patna students get selected in PSUs like BSNL, etc. But for PSUs, the students usually look towards cracking the GATE exam.
Other than that, companies like AMD and STMicroelectronics offer internships to worthy students from Microelectronics & VLSI. The alumni network is quite strong in this M.Tech specialization, with its alumni having interned at STMicroelectronics, AMD, Infineon, Intel, IIT Hyderabad, and RRCAT. Some of the alumni work at organizations like General Motors, Cadence Noida and core companies in Japan.
The faculty is quite good with dedicated members like Dr. Gaurav Kaushal, Dr. Bharat Gupta, and others.
At NIT Patna, or any other IITs and NITs, you are expected to work hard during your Masters’. I would recommend you set clear goals for yourself. Some Masters’ students decide to prepare for ESE/ PSUs while others sharpen their skills to get placed in a core company in the private sector.
Which is a better IIT overall: IIT Kanpur or IIT Madras?
Both IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras are renowned academic institutions in India and are ranked amongst the top Engineering institutions as well. The choice between IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras which is better depends on you and other factors like the field of study you opt for, location preference, research opportunities, campus facilities, and your personal choices.
However, IIT Madras has been ranked in 1st position in the category of overall engineering in the year 2023 by NIRF. Whereas IIT Kanpur has been ranked in 4th position by NIRF ranking in the year 2023.

What the degree a student will get finally after completion of IPM (IIM Indore)? A combination of BBA from IGNOU and PGP from IIM I?
The IPM course is a five-year integrated course in management and after completion, you will be awarded an IPM diploma and not a degree. In order to do so, IGNOU was introduced to offer IPM students a degree.
IIM Indore has taken care of students needs who are willing to appear for further competitive examinations such as UPSC and others. Getting a degree will help them to apply for higher education.
In IGNOU, you can choose any subject as your graduation subject and many students even choose B.A or B.Com as their subject. If you wish to opt for 3 years, then you will have to give exams for IGNOU from where you will get your BA or B.Com degree. The students who complete their post-graduation get a PGDM and the students who opt for IPM get an IPM diploma.
