GATE 2018 ME Question Paper (Slot 1): Detailed Analysis

  • There were a total of 65 Multiple-choice type questions and NAT questions. The first section included 10 questions based on General Aptitude which was rated as ‘easy’.
  • The second section of the question paper contains 55 questions out of which 28 questions were MCQs and 27 questions were NAT-based questions. There were 25 questions of 1 mark and 30 questions of 2 marks in the second section. This section was rated as ‘easy to moderate’.
  • Aspirants found that there were maximum questions based on the topics of Engineering Mathematics, Mechanics of Materials, Manufacturing Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, and Thermodynamics.
  • Questions asked on the topics of ECM, Sheet Metal, Metal cutting in Manufacturing Engineering were difficult while the topics of Mean Value Theorem, Probability, Euler’s Method, Rank, Analytic Function, Laplace Transform from Engineering Mathematics were found easy.
  • Sections of General Aptitude include topics of Geometry, TSD, Functions, Grammar, Numbers, Work, inference and it was found easy.
