GATE 2016 Electrical Engineering (EE) question paper has a total of 65 questions and all the questions are of either 1 mark or 2 marks.

• Multiple Choices Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Questions (NAQ) were present in the question paper.
• The 15% of weightage of the overall question paper was carried by the section with the general aptitude.
• Exceptionally for this subject, the section on Engineering Mathematics carried another 15% of the weightage of the overall question paper.
• The rest of the paper involving subject-specific questions had 70% of weightage.
• The total of 35 questions in the paper was of 1 mark and 30 questions of 2 marks.
• Questions even consisted of diagrams, graphs, and data and required the analytical abilities of the candidates.
• Negative marking of 1/3rd and 2/3rd marks was there for every wrong answer of questions carrying 1 and 2 marks respectively.
