GATE 2009 XL Paper Analysis
The question paper consisted of 6 sections, out of which the 1st Section was compulsory to attempt, and any 2 out of the remaining choices had to be attempted. The sections were:
Section H: Chemistry (Compulsory Section)
Section I: Biochemistry
Section J: Biotechnology
Section K: Botany
Section L: Microbiology
Section M: Zoology
There were a total of 18 questions in Section H with a total of 30 marks (including 1 and 2 marks questions). In the remaining sections, there were a total of 21 questions in each (including 1 and 2 marks questions). The detailed analysis of the number of 1 or 2 marks questions can be found as below:

- Negative marking was there for each incorrectly marked MCQ, whereas, no marks or 0 marks were credited for the questions left unattempted.;
- A -0.33 was awarded for each question marked incorrect for the questions carrying 1 mark and a -0.66 was awarded for 2 marks questions marked incorrectly.
