In the GRE argument task, you need to write a response essay of 500-600 words in 30 minutes, dividing it into several paragraphs. The GRE argument Essay requires the candidates to analyze the argument and look for its assumptions and flaws. This particular GRE argument essay talks about how Parson city is spending more money on providing education to the city residents than the blue city. Candidates can practice similar topics in GRE writing practice papers.

Topic: Parson City

The letter to the editor of Parson’s city says that Parson city is spending more money on providing education to the city residents than the blue city. The amount is as high as twice that blue city spent on the education for its residents even though both the cities have the same number of residents.

Several cities tax their residents to provide them with good infrastructure, good roads, good hospitals, and also good and quality education. Quality education is one of the necessities of one’s life. The poor literacy rate is not a good sign for any country. There can be many reasons why Parson city is spending more money on the schools that most students attend. The statement that the Parson City residents place a higher value in providing a good education in public schools than blue city residents, this statement is not giving any visible proof of the mindset of Parson City residents that they are placing a higher value on education neither it shows that Blue city is not willing to provide higher education. There can be many reasons why a city is spending more on education.

Information provided was not supported by any data of school-going children nor the data about several schools. This might be the chance that in the previous years’ Parson city was dealing with the poor infrastructure of schools and in recent times, they have spent a good amount in making schools well-structured and provided with more modern equipment in labs, providing more internet connections, and getting more future-ready schools. They might be bringing quality educators to improve the quality of education in Parson city. On the other hand, the public schools in the Blue city may be already well-structured and at a higher level of education quality than Parson City, so they spend the same amount in the public schools as the previous years. The Parson city might lower its expenditure in the future.

Also, check:

If the poor infrastructure, poor education quality is not the reason then one reason could be their good reputation in providing quality education in their schools so foreign students were also attracted towards the schools of Parson City. The foreign students come to the city, live here, complete their education and go back to their native city. This can also be the reason for spending more money on education as the schools have to provide residence to these outsider students in the schools of Parson city. Some students from outside states are studying in Parson City due to the good reputation and well-structured education system. These students are not adding to the city population as they will move back to their city, once their education is completed. Hence due to a greater number of students in Parson city than blue city schools, Parson city has to contribute more to education than Blue city.

In the above paragraph, no information is provided about the demographic conditions of both cities, if Parson has more school-going children than Blue city so that their expense on the school education can be justified, like if any city is dealing with some medical emergency, then they need to spend more on the hospitals or providing good medical facilities to their residents. A big amount of tax collected from residents should be spent on medical expenditure in that City. Similarly in the case of Parson city also, maybe they have more school-going children then they have to spend more on the school education to make well educated civilized residents.

The facts are not enough to explain why one city is spending more on education than another city, one more thing I would like to add here is that the needs of one person are different from other people similarly how the needs of one city can be similar to another city. This comparison is also not justified as the needs, demands, and requirements of each and all cities are different from another one. The city that is spending more on quality education is helping their residents in growing high in my opinion, but from this paragraph or argument this is not clear where the city is spending money, in developing the old infrastructure then this cost can be reduced in the coming years. If the city is spending on making education quality high then the cost might not be reduced in the coming years but their literacy rate will improve, Per capita income will also be going to improve and more well-educated professionals will be there to help in developing the city. As not much data is provided above but if the city is spending more on education it is going to help in growing all the dimensions. The expense on education is an investment, if one is spending on education now, one will enjoy a brighter and safer future.
