Argument

“Previous experience has shown that our stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. We should therefore build our next new store in Plainville, which has many such residents. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club, which nearly closed five years ago due to lack of business, has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. We can even anticipate a new generation of customers: Plainsville’s schoolchildren are required to participate in a ‘fitness for life’ program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age.”

Answer

Nature's way is an Australian brand that works as a pioneer of health and well-being. As the name suggests, it works with a motive to provide goodness extracted directly from natural resources. The company aims to have franchises across the world and is soon going to open its next store in Plainville, Connecticut, USA. Arguments state that the store is going to be successful as it is health-oriented, but experts have completely different inferences of partial or no success of Nature's way store in Plainville.

Plainville is a town known for its lifestyle. A report states that the maximum population in the town believes in a healthy way of living and therefore the demand for fitness amenities is always high. The town has numerous health clubs, aerobics classes, and weight training centres that are always filled with health enthusiasts. In such a town, how would a health and lifestyle company not sustain itself? Well, when we talk about the sustainability of Nature's way, their previous year experiences have shown profitable results in areas with people leading healthy lives. The demand for health apparels and promotion of "fitness for life" in schools and health clubs can be used to support the argument. However, none of these is sufficient enough to lend credible indications of the company's success.

Check

Firstly, with the changing scenario, we have all seen a dire need for a healthy lifestyle. Some people do not believe in organic supplements or products and just focus on exercising regularly. While some find it as a better option to go for supplements and other health products to boost immunity speedily. Similarly, the demand for health apparel does not imply that people are interested in buying health supplements too. Some may buy the apparels and shoes for fashion purposes and some may use them to exercise. Therefore, the evidence that Plainville attracts huge demand for health and fitness products, is not strong enough to prove the company's sustainability in the long run.

Secondly, the argument states that the health and fitness program is designed for school children in Plainville. Many nations across the world have made it mandatory for schools and other educational institutions to adopt Yoga, Aerobics, and other fitness alternatives for kids to grow actively. It may be possible that under this scheme, the government of Plainville would have made it mandatory for their kids too. Therefore, this point from the argument can not be trusted to believe that the products sold by Nature's Way company will also have a great demand.

The other point in the argument states the opening of a local health club that was shut down five years ago and now has numerous people enrolled in the fitness program. There are possibilities that a club may not survive for a longer duration because of the quality of services they offer or because they may have another competition build-up. The local health club may have been shut because of these reasons. There are possibilities that they have come up with better services and therefore people have given them the response. It is also possible that their competitive health clubs have stopped functioning and therefore there is an increase in their customers. Therefore, the point that the local health club is restored with several customers is not enough to prove that Nature's way company will get a good response in the market of Plainville.

It is evident that companies that are successful today have planned their market strategies and have worked on the target audience efficiently. The first step to know your customers is to conduct a survey. The arguments that are stated above are presented in a memo released by the vice president of Nature's way company and it is very clear that the company has not researched its target audience and is planning to open a franchise with mere assumptions of the locals of Plainville. For companies like Nature's Way that aim to target a particular set of people, say health enthusiasts, in their case, it is obvious to work on a target audience and comprehend their needs. One cannot move ahead with mere assumptions and no strong evidence.

The arguments stated by the Author are mere assumptions that have no strong evidence and do not state any concrete point for the audience to understand why Plainville can be a great centre for Nature's way company to withstand in the long run and earn the desired profits. In addition to the above-stated arguments, details of people in Plainville, their income, the choice of the kids, and the need for a healthy lifestyle should be studied. Therefore, it completely depends upon the need of the locals of Plainville, the quality of the product offered by the company, their service, and how promising the company can appear to be to overcome the hurdles and survive in the long run.
