Model Answer

The given statement claims that “In business, education, and government, it is always appropriate to remain sceptical of new leaders until those leaders show that they are worthy of trust.” which I certainly refute. It's important to strike a balance. Business, education, and government all play critical roles in the nation's flourishing growth and peaceful governance. Many outstanding personalities have brought about huge change in these fields as a result of the changing and ever increasing expectations of people. They are famous globally for their remarkable work. Whether it is reasonable to be cautious of new leaders in industry, education, and government until they demonstrate their trustworthiness. It is a thought that requires careful consideration.

A person's past can create an irrelevant image of the new leader, blocking a true and honest evaluation of his leadership abilities. Elon Musk, for example, is a well-known entrepreneur, engineer, and founder of international corporations such as Tesla and SpaceX. He did, however, have to put in a lot of effort to become a successful person. But, when he became the CEO of Tesla, he had numerous challenges. The firm's stock was decreasing at an exponential rate, and the company was on the verge of bankruptcy. As a result, people began to doubt his abilities and believe Tesla was a failure. Yet, he did not give up and believed in his vision, and he made incredible progress in the field of electric cars, which wowed people all over the world. Because of the public's trust, electric car sales soared, and the company's stock market valuation is among the highest in the world. It is true that people are wary of new leaders in order to feel more secure. To feel secure, people need to perceive a new leader's trustworthiness. People should, however, trust the leader more than anything else within the limitations of control. To begin with, this is because, in many cases, leaders have proved good performance in the prior job in order to be promoted to the current role.

Second, many people believe that the cost of waiting until a leader exhibits trustworthy traits is larger than the cost of a new leader making mistakes. This is especially true in situations where the consequences are widespread. Take, for example, education. Assume that the president of a university wishes to implement a new policy to increase the number of students who look for work after graduation. The impact of this policy will not be assessed until the students have graduated in three/four years. Each year the policy is in force, students may experience a year of delay.

A little scepticism, however, can result in astonishingly positive outcomes when executed well.

It is critical for leaders to have the trust of the people they lead, whether they be students, employees, or residents of a country. Clearly, a leader whose authority and abilities are continually questioned cannot effectively lead his or her people. In fact, if people suspect their leaders of ability with a high level of scepticism, they will automatically restrict them from expressing themselves.

There are two sides to every coin. Being sceptical or not - it’s one’s choice. However, too much scepticism or lack of scepticism comes with its own set of repercussions. Scepticism is a tool for evaluating a leader and determining whether or not he or she is trustworthy. This is especially true when it comes to inexperienced leaders. Regardless, it's important not to forget that trust is a critical component of the leader-follower connection. Being overly doubtful could damage everything and severely impede the leader's efforts.
