Answer:

The claim that a person can intake knowledge about a particular society by absorbing information about its main cities absolutely disregards the other features that comprise a country. If we take, for instance, the mighty US, there are 50 cities forming it and each of them has its respective cultures, people, society, and other important demographics. Each of those 50 cities is an independent entity, and the groups of citizens are either united or divided by class, race, ethnicity, social class, or religion. There are even some states that do not even fall under the city term. Furthermore, the assumption that only major cities can form a large society totally deprives smaller states of being counted or conducted a study on. Furthermore, there are certain cities that consist of numerous smaller societies representing distant and remote areas of the large country.

There is a need to know which are the things that constitute characteristics of a country. If diversity is one of the topmost characteristics then one needs to start with knowing about the major cities. For instance, let’s talk about one of the famous cities - New York. New York City is home to many neighborhoods like Chinatown, Hell’s Kitchen, Little Italy, Spanish Harlem, and more. People of NYC have their neighborhoods based on economic and lifestyle classes like Greenwich Village, SoHo, Park Avenue. The people of rural America doesn’t are believers in inhomogeneity and have negligible ideas about racial or ethnic diversity.

When developing the basis of characteristics, understanding fine arts is considered an important societal characteristic. Major cities are home to an array of fine art pieces like opera houses, live performances, band performances, museums, theaters, dance troupes, musicals, and so much more diversified performances of artists. But people from small towns may only have their reach to high school bands, and performances airing on the internet as components of fine arts. Therefore, they are deprived of authentic fine art pieces, unlike big cities.

Physical reach to higher education and other developmental institutions is considered a crucial societal characteristic. A student who has just graduated from high school residing in a small town needs to travel all the way to a major city for pursuing their college degree. But quite the contrary happens to a student already residing in a major city. They just need to travel a few lanes to reach their college. One very highlighting fact about small education is since most students have to travel and transfer themselves to an altogether new place, most of them drop the idea of continuing education. This directly affects the overall education level of the country.

Therefore, to conclude it should be stated that when conducting a study about the characteristics of a society, both small towns and large cities need to be included.
