TOEFL Essentials is a test similar to the other TOEFL exams. TOEFL essentials are developed following similar quality, validity, and accuracy. TOEFL Essentials Exam Pattern 

TOEFL Essentials comprises similar sections like the TOEFL exam pattern. It tests the English reading, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. TOEFL Essentials additionally tests the core English knowledge of candidates like vocabulary, and sentence construction. This exam has a brief duration of 1 and half hours. There is one unique feature of the TOEFL Essentials exam pattern. There is an unscored video of 5 minutes at the end of the test. TOEFL Essentials Registration 

TOEFL Essentials can be taken at a very affordable cost as compared to other TOEFL exams. TOEFL Essentials registration cost is US$ 100 to US$ 120. There is no separate site for TOEFL Essentials registration. Candidates can book the test from the same place as TOEFL iBT. The registration for TOEFL Essentials has started on 17th June 2021. The first exam is supposed to take place on 21st August 2021. The test appointments are available one to three days a week. Candidates can also get an appointment just 24 hours after TOEFL registration. The only requirement to take the test is having a stable internet connection. Candidates from all over the world can take the exam. This test uses similar technology, proctoring, and security features like TOEFL iBT Home Edition.

TOEFL Essentials Test Security 

TOEFL Essentials test includes both human rater and artificial intelligence for checking purposes. They have implemented this method for having valid, and accurate TOEFL results. The TOEFL Essentials test security measures include:

  • Security and ID Check: The test-takers need to undergo a strict ID verification and security checking process. They also need to show their testing area to the proctor for scanning.
  • Computer Check: The candidate’s computer is checked and scanned prior to the test
  • Human Proctoring: TOEFL Essentials is proctored by a human proctored constantly. It will be live, and thoroughly monitoring the candidate throughout the exam. The proctor will assist the candidate according to their needs. They also have the right to cancel the exam in case of any security violations.
  • AI Monitor: AI Monitoring tracks the gaze of the candidate which is a very common security violation. It also works on facial recognition.
  • Video Record: the whole TOEFL Essentials test is video recorded for additional investigation requirements. This is done in compliance with GDPR requirements.

TOEFL Essentials Score 

TOEFL Essentials score is somewhat similar to TOEFL iBT Score. TOEFL essentials has two scores - total score and four sectional scores. There is a new score scale set by TOEFL Essentials that has bands from 1 to 12. This is applicable for both total and sectional scores.

Essentials score has three parts:

  • MyBest Scores: All the candidate’s TOEFL score reports will include MyBest scores. That is the combination of all the best TOEFL scores from valid tests in the last two years.
  • Instant Score: This is also called TOEFL unofficial score which is similar to TOEFL iBT score. Candidates will instantly get their TOEFL reading and listening scores upon finishing the exam. This will be an early indicator of their performance.
  • Unlimited Score Sending: Candidates can send as many TOEFL score reports as possible. There will be no additional charges for sending TOEFL score reports to more than four universities or colleges.

TOEFL Essentials Score Reporting 

The selected universities and colleges will be receiving the TOEFL Essentials score reports within 6 to 8 days of taking the test. Test takers will be receiving their scores 6 days after taking the test. The TOEFL Essentials score is valid for two years. The candidate’s score will also be present in the TOEFL Search Service.

The institutions will have similar access to the scoring services as they do for TOEFL iBT. The registered universities and colleges will be able to view the score instantly without any hassle. They also have access to the TOEFL Showcase that shows the TOEFL Essentials score, additional English proficiency features, the 5 minutes video, and sample writing and speaking responses. The TOEFL Showcase feature automatically captures the sample responses, MyBest scores, and also foundation skills.
