In our technological society, engineering is increasingly important in the global marketplace of business and industry. In fact, since the present and future well-being of the metropolitan Cleveland area is intricately linked with continued industrial growth, educated professionals such as engineers and technologists are in great demand.
Civil Engineering
Civil engineers are responsible for designing, constructing and operating much of the physical world. Civil engineers design wastewater treatment plants, skyscrapers, tunnels, bridges, highways, solar panels for space applications, and more.
The College’s curriculum in Civil Engineering prepares students for successful careers in the following occupations: environmental engineer, transportation engineer, steel designer, bridge engineer, ground-water hydrologist and many others.
In addition to mathematics and science courses, civil engineering students take courses such as strength of materials, steel and concrete structures, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, environmental engineering, soil mechanics and foundations, and transportation and construction engineering, among others. Students learn useful laboratory techniques in the recently upgraded Soils Laboratory, the Strength of Materials Laboratory (that includes a variety of both manual and fully automated testing machines), and the Environmental Laboratory.
