Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

Zonta International gives out a number of scholarships in the name of Jane M. Klausman (JMK) to women pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of business.

  • Both the scholarship program and Zonta International itself operate on different levels, namely Zonta club, district/region, and international.
  • Zonta International offers 37 international scholarships of 5,000 USD.
  • It is applicable to women of any age, with the only condition of their being enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program.

Eligibility Criteria

As mentioned earlier, age is not a barrier to be eligible for the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. Other than their being women, the criteria for eligibility are:

  • No restrictions in terms of nationality.
  • Online students are also eligible to apply if enrolled at an accredited university/college/institute.
  • Should be living/studying in a Zonta district/region.
  • Candidates who are living/studying in a Zonta district/region are eligible to apply for the district/region or international awards even if there is no Zonta Club in that area.
  • Candidates doing online courses at accredited universities or colleges are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must be, at the minimum, doing their second year of an undergraduate program and, at the maximum, doing their final year of a Masters program, during the time of application.
  • Candidates must not have graduated at the time the scholarship funds are transferred, and must not graduate before April 2024.
  • Applicants for the 2023 Women in STEM Scholarship may not also apply for the 2023 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship.
  • The following people are NOT eligible :
    • Club members and individuals with direct membership with Zonta International, i.e Classified Members
    • Employees of Zonta International and Zonta Foundation for Women
    • Family members of employees, including ancestors, descendants, adoptees, siblings, nieces or cousins, and those of their spouse or cohabiting partner
  • However, Golden Z club members may apply.

Candidates should be enrolled in a business program at an accredited college or university, and be majoring in any of the following:

Accounting Economics
Finance Business management
Marketing Operations management
Human resources management International business
Entrepreneurship


Previous International JMK Women in Business Scholarship awardees are not eligible to apply for a renewal for a second year.


Application Process

  • The application process must start with a Zonta club.
  • All application materials must be received at a Zonta club by the deadline printed on the application.
  • If you downloaded the application from the Zonta International website, you must contact a Zonta club for deadline information.
  • If the Zonta club contact information is not printed on the application, please locate the Zonta club nearest you.
  • pplicants from geographic areas within a Zonta district/region where no clubs are located will be considered and are eligible to apply for the international scholarships via a Zonta district/region.

TIMELINE:

Applications received by Zonta clubs: Contact local club for deadline (generally April-June) 
Club recipient is selected and application is received by governor/region representative: 15 August or deadline determined by district/region 
District/region applicant selected and application received by ZI Headquarters: 15 October 
Official announcement of international recipients: December


Grant Details

The Women in Business Scholarship was instituted in 1998 by Jane M. Klausman, who was a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York, and the Parliamentarian of Zonta International in 1990-1995.

  • Zonta has awarded 713 scholarships, totaling more than US$1.8 million, to 559 women representing 70 countries.

  • The scholarships are funded by contributions from Zontians, Zonta clubs and friends of Zonta, as well as investment income through the Klausman bequest.

  • Majority of the recipients in 2023 are from the USA, but there are also ones from Canada, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Colombia, Italy, Germany, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Chile, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Bolivia, and Macedonia.

The JMK Women in Business program aims to boost the participation of women in the area of business by encouraging their education, leadership, and career growth, and create progress in terms of gender equality.
