Assumption?s neuroscience programs take an interdisciplinary approach by applying the tools of both biology and psychology to unravel these mysteries and gain an understanding of the underlying neural basis of how we perceive, and react to the world around us. At Assumption College, students interested in neuroscience can major in?Biology with a concentration in ?or?Psychology with a concentration in Brain, Behavior and Cognition.

The Biology major is particularly well-suited to students who are interested in the biology of brain function. It is an excellent choice for individuals who hope to pursue graduate studies in neuroscience or the health professions or work in the biotechnology and pharmacology industries or in other life science organizations.

The Psychology major is ideal for those who want to focus on the psychological aspects of brain function and for students wishing to pursue graduate studies in cognition, neuroscience and various psychological disciplines and related areas. Students will also be prepared to work in research laboratories.

Career Opportunities

Assumption Biology graduates have the education and experience to enter an array of professions including biotechnology, pharmacology, teaching and other life science organizations. They are also prepared to pursue graduate degrees in a number of scientific fields and the health professions.

Our Psychology graduates can enter an array of fields including laboratory work and working with nonprofit and entrepreneurial organizations, corporations, and local, state and federal government. They can also pursue programs in cognition, neuroscience, experimental psychology, school psychology (rated as the #1 social science career by US NEWS) and other disciplines. Assumption College offers a master?s degree in?counseling psychology?that is nationally renowned.

Many students also pursue graduate degrees in a range of other areas such as sociology, rehabilitative services and law.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Submit official transcripts of high school and other education completed
  • Applicants should have completed the following coursework: four years of english, three years of mathematics, two years of history and science, two years of foreign language
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from counselor or teacher
  • Submit a personal statement or essay
  • Submitting SAT/ACT score is optional
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum score of 80 in ibt; 550 in PBT
  • IELTS: minimum score of 6.5
  • PTE: minimum 53
  • Duolingo: minimum 105
