VIT Vellore: 7 Answered Questions

Is Haldia Institute of Technology good for CSE in comparison with VIT Vellore or other colleges?

Suraj Upadhaystudied Computer Engineering at Manipal Institute Of Technology (2019)

CSE from VIT Vellore is the better option. In fact, after IIITs and BITS, it is considered best for the CS domain. The video below will give you an honest review of VIT Vellore

If you have a good command over Data Structure, Algorithm Design, and a bit of competitive coding, you can easily bag lucrative salary packages from reputed companies like Cisco, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, etc. According to the placement highlights of recent years, VIT Vellore CSE average CTC stays around INR 7 LPA.

I got CSE in VIT Vellore and will get mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut. Which one should I choose?

Suchit RaghuwanshiB.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2024)

NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.

On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.

  • The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs.
  • The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.
  • For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds.
  • Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them.
Categories Mechanical at NIT Calicut CSE at VIT Vellore
Course Fee 5.48 lakhs 7.83 lakhs
Highest CTC 20 LPA 20 LPA
Average CTC 9 LPA 6-8 LPA
Recruiting Companies L&T, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Tata Motors, etc. Flipkart, Oracle, HP, Dell, etc.

At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. Some of the major recruiters include PayPal, Microsoft, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc.

Which is a better option college for CSE or IT - VIT Vellore or IIIT Allahabad?

Supriya Sarkar
Arindam ChakrabortyStudied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2018)

Considering this question, the first thing that can be highlighted is that both of these institutes cannot be compared at all. However, studying IT in IIIT Allahabad is far better as it offers several opportunities, as well as institutional environment and infrastructure to assist the student in their career growth appropriately.

However, CSE at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is not so secure considering the programming prospects and study culture that the student will get at IIITA. This choice is easy enough for the student to make as per their career perspectives.

The following table gives a brief overview of these two institutes:

Criteria

IIITA

VIT

Highest CTC

41.6 LPA

Lowest CTC

20.83 LPA

7 LPA

Companies Visited

Thus, considering the above facts, it can be stated that between these two institutes, the student must go for IIIT Allahabad, as VIT can’t be compared at all.

Which should one choose, VIT University, Vellore CSE or ITM University, Gwalior CSE?

Anusha KarmakarB.Tech Engineering & Mechanical Engineering Design, ITM University Gwalior, Turari Campus (2019)

ITM University is one of the emerging top private universities in the country. You might think that this is answer biased but personally I have no associations with any of these universities.

ITM University has grown tremendously in the last 6 years. The guests that the University invites in the convocation ceremony are no ordinary people but an alumnus at the university and you will be surprised to see the names. Here are a few names of the alumni:

  • Mrs. Aruna Roy (ex IAS Officer, recipient of Magsaysay Award)
  • Rajat Sharma
  • Yuvraj Singh
  • Shri Ashok Vajpeyi
  • Padmashri Govind Nihalani
  • Padma Vibhushan Dr. Raghunath Anant Mashelkar

Now, let us look at the comparison between the VIT University, Vellore CSE, and ITM University, Gwalior CSE.

  • VIT is much older than ITM and thus, VIT outshines in case of reputation and facilities. The intake for CSE at VIT Vellore is 1200 but at ITM Gwalior, it is just 120.
  • The infrastructure at VIT Vellore is much better than the infrastructure at ITM Gwalior. In fact, the infrastructure of VIT Vellore is one of the finest among all the colleges in the country.
  • The fee at VIT Vellore is approximately 15 lakhs (hostel fee included) if you get selected through VITEEE (the entrance exam conducted by VIT). But if you go through the management quota or category system, you will have to pay a hefty amount of Rs. 30 lakhs, approximately. The fee at ITM Gwalior is Rs. 9 lakhs for 4 years (hostel fee included).
  • Faculties are good at both institutions. There are faculties for M.tech and Ph.D. in both institutions.

Do not join VIT Vellore through management quota paying such a large amount, join only if you make it via entrance exam because it will not be beneficial.

ITM Gwalior provides you with good opportunities at a much lesser fee.

I did not get CSE in Vellore, can I prefer ECE in Vellore or CSE in Amrita based on my future career?

Shrushti PurohitStudied at University of Mumbai (2019)

A few of my friends are pursuing CSE at Amrita University and here are some tips according to their experience -

Considering many reviews that Amrita University is not up to the mark, it is suggested to drop one year and prepare well so that you can get a good seat at NIT at least.

You can try BITSAT as well. But don’t spoil your future by going into any college, which you will regret throughout your life.

Categories ECE at VIT CSE at Amrita University
Course Fee 7.83 lakh 13.10 lakh
Highest CTC 21 LPA 25 LPA
Average CTC 5 LPA 4.8 LPA
Recruiting Companies Infosys, Byju’s, Capgemini, Oracle, etc. Wipro, TCS, Dell, HCL, etc.

However, make the right choice. It is suggested you opt for better colleges and drop out and prepare for the exams this year. So that there will be a chance of getting into a better college.
