BITS Pilani has added a plagiarism tool on its campus to check the student’s capability to write an essay on an unknown topic. This tool has been generated specifically to go through the soft copies and the answers uploaded on it by digital means. The topics given for the essay writing is an anonymous topic and sometimes students also give in their essays in hardcopy format. In such cases, the student checks and again works on their essay before submitting it. When submitted the hard copy files are scanned and then converted into soft copies and are then made to go through the plagiarism tool. Students are aware of the tool and therefore check the essay multiple times before submitting it. The plagiarism tool is very advanced and also very accurate. It searches the essay multiple times in every order to find out the copied content and identifies as little as phrases used in the same order.

These objectives are achieved by bringing the reality of the world of work into the process of education. PS creates the required setting for experiential and cooperative learning and education. They provide students with an opportunity to work on relevant assignments, under the guidance of professional experts and under the supervision of faculty Practice School 1. PS-1 is primarily an exposure-oriented program that is graded for five units as it is an integral part of the curriculum. It is offered during the summer after the students have completed two years of course work. Your allotted PS -1 station and date of joining will be informed by the PS Division. You need to report to the PS instructor and he/she will give you a basic introduction of the PS program, PS Station, and even its evaluation criteria. You will observe whats happening in your PS station and note the key points. You might be required to give a presentation & report based on your observation. You will have a mid-term evaluation and an end-term evaluation. A friend of mines PS -1 had his PS -1 station in the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai. Students were divided into groups of 4 and every batch was given a handout containing dates and shops to be visited on that day. They were asked to take note of every process on that floor for further reference. My friend got a good understanding of sleeper and EMU class trains. Our documents were verified by an ICF representative and my friend got 6 /10. Overall it was a good experience.

BITS Pilani does not offer any such course, although they offer an M.Sc degree in Mathematics. Maths taught in BITS Pilani is not at all related to the likes of ISI Kolkata. The course curriculum at BITS Pilani is a lot theoretical and conceptually based. However, they have some of the subjects related to Statistics such as Probability and Statistics, Optimisation, Operation Research. But these are common courses to all of the disciplines. Thus, even if you take up any different discipline, you will get to learn all these.

Can a lower-middle-class student afford to study in BITS Pilani or Goa?

Yes, a student from a lower-middle-class background can afford to study at BITS Pilani or BITS Goa. There are several provisions of loans and scholarships for every student to afford a course from such a premier institute in India. Banks give educational loans to students even at low-interest rates for students who get chances of studying at premier institutes like BITS. You can study based on the credit given by banks and then repay the bank after their graduation. BITS also offers scholarships based on merit to its students. According to my friends personal experience, the biggest problem that is being faced in BITS, Pilani is that everyone has the same thinking and they go in that sync only. They want to be in one of the most prestigious engineering colleges just to get a decent CGPA, clear CGPA cut off for the placements, get a good placement and enjoy life afterward, which is pretty much boring. All the students are not even aware of the various academic facilities that are being provided in the college. They arent even aware of the fact that the library orders any book that a student desires through the library portal, which contains most of the famous journals including MIT Tech Review, Scientific American Harvard Business Review, and many others. The students focus more on salary rather than developing their overall personality and attitude towards the subjects they are studying. My friend also feels that it will be better if the institute included some core subjects in the first year of the course instead of focusing on a generalized curriculum for all branches. Some students also complain about the management and administration.

Now it’s up to you to decide which factor will affect you the most. In my opinion choosing IIIT Hyderabad over BITS Pilani is a no-brainer as IIIT Delhi is the best when it comes to CSE. Its curriculum is designed exceptionally well. Apart from this, it fairs well in terms of modern technology, infrastructure, faculties, placements, and greater opportunities for higher studies and research. The only institutes that give IIIT Hyderabad an edge are IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore. You are bound to gain a lot of fun experience and knowledge at IIIT Hyderabad and won’t regret joining it ever.

However, this definitely does not mean BITS Pilani is not any good. It’s just that the outcomes offered by both institutes are different. If you want to go for MBA or Government Services in the future, BITS Pilani is a good choice as it offers a wider range of opportunities in contrast to CSE at IIIT Hyderabad which is suitable only if you want to stay in this field till the end.
