NITK Surathkal M.Tech Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for NITK Surathkal MTech program, the aspiring candidates must be:
- A resident of India.
- Bachelor’s degree with an aggregate CGPA of 6.5 on the scale of 10 in the grading system. OR 60% aggregate marks for General category candidates and 55% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
NITK Surathkal M.Tech Admission
NITK Surathkal MTech admissions are based on GATE exam scores through CCMT counselling for regular students. There are three categories of MTech (Regular) degree:
- Candidates with GATE scores: Admission for such category is done via CCMT counselling on the basis of GATE scores. These students get scholarship for four semesters as per the GATE scholarship rules of MHRD.
- Full-time sponsored students under QIP: The admission for MTech (Sponsored) shall be done through academic performance in the qualifying examination or/and written aptitude test or/and Interview as prescribed by the DPGC of the specific Department. The applicant should have a minimum of 2 years of working experience with the organization.
- Full-time sponsored student from Industry/ other organizations/ Educational Institutions: The admission for MTech (Research) shall be done through the marks obtained in GATE or in some of the program's selection will be based on at least 70% weightage to GATE score and 30% weightage to academic performance in the qualifying examination as prescribed by the DPGC of the specific Department.
For MTech (Research), the candidate must be an Indian national with a CGPA of 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system in the Bachelor’s degree. The candidate must have a GATE score for final admissions. Selection for M.Tech (Research) in some of the specializations is done on the basis of at least 70% weightage to GATE score and remaining 30% weightage to academic performance in qualifying exam or/ and written aptitude test or/ and Interview. Also, NITK Surathkal MTech (Research) offers scholarship to candidates who have a valid GATE score:
- Full time scholarship on GATE scholarship: Candidates will receive GATE scholarship for the duration of four semesters, which is subjected to GATE scholarship rules of MHRD.
- Full Time student sponsored from Industry or other organization & External Registrants- student sponsored from Industry or other Organizations: Students shall be sponsored and financed by the sponsoring organization. They are not entitled for Institute scholarship. He/she should produce a sponsorship-cum-clearance certificate in the given format of the Institute along with the application. The candidate must have minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience in the sponsoring organization, after completing the qualifying examination. External Registrants are expected to carry-out their research work in their parent organization after fulfilling certain prerequisites in the Institute. External registrants may have an additional Research Guide from the sponsoring organization. In case of external registrants, residential requirement may be waived and they are expected to complete their course work by opting for (pre-approved by DPGC) certified courses.
- Internal Registrants- sponsored institute or project staff of NITK: These students shall produce a sponsorship-cum-clearance certificate from the Director, NITK
How to Apply?
Candidates applying for a regular degree are required to register on the official site as well as on the COAP portal. Applicants seeking admission to MTech (sponsored and research) degree shall fill the application form available on the official website www.nitk.ac.in. The final step is by paying the registration fees of INR 500 for OC/OBC and INR 150 for SC/ST/PWD.
