IIT Guwahati M.Tech: Fees 2025, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

IIT Guwahati MTech admissions are based on GATE Score followed by COAP counselling. For IIT Guwahati MTech Admission 2024, GATE Registrations have started from August 30. The closing date of regular registration is October 12, 2023. Along with that, the deadline for extended online registration or application process (with late fee) is 20^th October, 2023. 

IIT Guwahati offers a 2 year duration MTech program in 29 different specialisations. The courses are available in both full-time and part-time mode. The candidates who qualify the GATE exam are further offered seats via COAP counselling. For the year 2023, IIT Guwahati has participated in the COAP counselling till Round 10.

IIT Guwahati grants admission to the candidates for MTech program under different categories such as Regular with GATE, Regular with IIT BTech without GATE, Sponsored and full-time without GATE, Employed and Part-time without GATE and Project staff and part-time without GATE. On fulfilling all the criterias, aspirants can fill up the IIT Guwahati MTech admission form from the admission portal of the institute and get themselves registered for COAP counselling 2024 for the seat allocation process.

IIT Guwahati students received an average package of INR 16.51 Lakhs for its MTech program. Further, the highest package stood at INR 57.70 LPA. The median and Minimum package for IIT Guwahati BTech program remained INR12.13 LPA and INR 4.20 LPA.

IIT Guwahati MTech Admission Dates 2024

IIT Guwahati MTech Eligibility Criteria 

• Minimum CPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale or a minimum of 60% of total/aggregate marks in Qualifying Degree.
• Candidates still to appear in their qualifying degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before July 15.
• For the academic programs M.Tech. in Data Science and M.Tech. in Food Science and Technology, the candidates can apply only under the studentship category of Regular with GATE or Regular and IIT BTech without GATE.
• MTech in Food Science and Technology is a joint degree program of IIT Guwahati and Gifu University Japan.

IIT Guwahati MTech Admission Criteria

The final admission to regular candidates with GATE is based on :

• Either 100% weightage to the performance in GATE and with/without counselling.
• Or 70% weightage to the performance in GATE and 30% weightage to other components like performance in written test and/or interviews conducted by the concerned academic department/center, academic credentials of the candidates, etc.
• While preparing the rank list for (regular category) admission into MTech Program, if two or more candidates scored the same GATE Score or same final Composite score for admission, the following rules shall be followed :
  • Aggregate/ Total Percentage of Marks obtained in Class 12
  • Aggregate/ Total Percentage of Marks obtained in Class 10
  • Date of Birth, the candidate is senior / older in age to be ranked higher.
  • If there is a tie even after this, such candidates will be assigned the same rank.

• The final admission to other candidates is based on the performance in the written test and/ or interview conducted by the concerned academic department/ center, academic credentials of the candidates, etc.

IIT Guwahati MTech Type/ Categories

IIT Guwahati offers MTech degrees under 5 following categories:

• Regular with GATE: Candidates with GATE scores pursue full-time MTech degrees at the institute. They are entitled to receive Financial Assistantship/ Scholarship from IIT Guwahati at the rate of INR 12,400/- per month (tenable for a maximum period of 24 months). Admission for ths category is based on GATE score and COAP counselling.
• Regular and IIT BTech without GATE (IIT Guwahati MTech admission without GATE): Candidates with a BTech degree from any one of the IITs with a minimum of 8.0 CGPA pursue full-time MTech degree at the institute. They are exempted from the requirement of valid GATE scores. They are entitled to receive Financial Assistantship/ Scholarship from IIT Guwahati at the rate of Rs.12,400/- per month (tenable for a maximum period of 24 months). The final admission to the candidates under this category is based on the performance in the written test and/or interview conducted by the concerned academic department/centre, the academic credential of the candidates, etc.
• Sponsored and Full Time without GATE: The candidates under this category are sponsored (with salary and study leave for 24 months) by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, governmental organization or industry for doing MTech at IIT Guwahati. They are NOT entitled to receive any financial assistance from the Institute. The candidate under this category must be a regular employee of his/her organization with at least 2 (two) years of experience at the time of admission. The final admission to the candidates under this category is based on the performance in the written test and/ or interview conducted by the concerned academic department/ center, academic credentials of the candidates, etc.
• Employed and Part Time without GATE: The candidates under this category are professionally employed personnel (including regular employees of IIT Guwahati), who can attend classes in the first year at the Institute while employed. The Institute does NOT Institute Scholarship to the students under this category. The final admission to the candidates under this category is based on the performance in the written test and / or interview conducted by the concerned academic department/ center, academic credentials of the candidates, etc.
• Project Staff and Part Time without GATE: The candidates under this category are presently working in a sponsored R&D projects of IIT Guwahati. They pursue M.Tech program at the Institute on part time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. They are not entitled to receive Scholarship from the Institute.The final admission to the candidates under this category is based on the performance in the written test and/ or interview conducted by the concerned academic department/ center, academic credentials of the candidates, etc.

IIT Guwahati MTech in Data Science and Food Science and Technology

For the academic programs M.Tech in Data Science and M.Tech in Food Science and Technology, the candidates can apply only under the studentship category of Regular with GATE or Regular & IIT BTech without GATE. The Non-Regular studentship category Sponsored & Full Time without GATE, Employed & Part Time without GATE, and Project Staff & Part Time without GATE are NOT available for these two programs. The candidates should NOT submit two application forms with two different studentship categories for an MTech program of one discipline/ one department. For students pursuing MTech on part-time basis, hostel accommodation is NOT provided. If the hostel accommodation is needed, they have to request for it and pay the required fees for it and it is subject to availability.

IIT Guwahati MTech Entrance Exam

The candidates will have to take the GATE entrance exam to any of the M.Tech courses at IIT Guwahati. It is an online examination that includes MCQs as well as numerical-based questions. The exam will be conducted for 25 streams each having syllabus of its own subject with general aptitude being common in all.

Please Note :

• The maximum marks allotted are 100 and the exam lasts for 180 minutes.
• 1/3 for 1 mark MCQ and 2/3 for 2 mark MCQ are deducted for wrong answers.
• GATE exam is conducted in various cities across the country as well as abroad. 
• The six exam centres that are located outside India are in Dubai, Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka, Singapore, and Kathmandu.

IIT Guwahati GATE 2024 Qualifying Cutoff (Released)

GATE 2024 qualifying cutoff is the minimum mark required to register for the COAP 2024 counselling. There is a difference between the admission cutoff of the institute and minimum cutoff required for participation in the admission process/ counselling. IIT Guwahati MTech Course Details 

IIT Guwahati offers MTech courses under its Post Graduation program. The course can be done under 9 different specializations. IIT B.Tech holders and non-GATE qualified candidates will have to attempt a written test/ interview. The course is available on full time as well as part-time basis. The course fee for the M.Tech program at IIT Guwahati is INR 50750. IIT Guwahati MTech Application 2024

For M.Tech:

Eligible candidates can apply through Offline/ online application procedure on or before the due date. Candidates can follow the steps as under - 

1. Visit the official website and register to the department/ center and fill out the required details and upload the necessary documents.
2. At the end of online application process, candidate needs to make payment of application fee online in case of offline/ paper form, the application fee is to be submitted in the form of demand draft in favour of the Registrar, IIT Guwahati payable at Guwahati along with the application form. 
3. The application form is available online, candidates should download the application form and then fill and submit it by post or in person to IITG to whomsoever the offline is applicable.
4. Application fee for female/ transgender/ SC/ ST/ PwD candidates is INR 150 and for other candidates is INR 300.

For GATE: 

The application process for the GATE exam is as follows:

1. Registration on the official website of GATE.
2. Fill the application form with personal, academic, qualification details, you will have to choose the preferred exam centre. 
3. The process of uploading documents like photographs, signature, eligibility certificate, and SC / ST certificate (if there) must be done. 
4. Fee payment of INR 1500 or INR 2000 (based on various criteria) must be done. 
5. Submission of the application form.

GATE 2024 COAP Registration Process

After passing the GATE entrance exam, candidates are to register for the COAP counseling process to secure their admission into IITs, NITs, and other participating institutes. COAP provides a common platform for the registered candidates to make the most preferred choice for admission into an M.Tech. Program in the participating Institutes. 

Eligibility Criteria to Register for COAP 2024

1. The candidate must be a citizen of India.
2. Candidates should have a valid GATE score from 2023/2022/2021/2020.

GATE 2024 COAP Step by Step Registration Process:

The candidates can successfully apply for GATE COAP 2024 by simply following the below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of COAP @ coap.iitd.ac. and click on the registration link.

Step 2: Fill in details such as their GATE Registration Number, GATE Paper Code, GATE score, date of birth.

Step 3: Click on the “Validate” icon and enter the registered email id and mobile number.

Step 4:Click on the “Submit to Register” button.

Step 5: After the registration is successfully done for COAP 2024, the candidates will obtain a Login ID and Password for COAP Login. The same will be sent via Email and SMS.

Step 6: The COAP registration will only be considered as complete only if the candidates log in using the Login ID and Password and verify the registration details.

Step 7: After the completion of the above-given steps, the candidate can access the information on offers made from the participating Institutes.

Step 8: In the end, the admission offer will be uploaded at COAP website and will be tagged with COAP registration number (same as GATE registration number without subject code).

IIT Guwahati MTech Seats

IIT Guwahati offers MTech programs in various specialisations. Each of the courses has a specific seat intake. Given below is the table of the IIT Guwahati MTech seat matrix as per the courses offered by the institute:

IIT Guwahati MTech Reservation

• The minimum marks requirement is relaxed by lowering 0.5 in CPI or 5% in marks for SC / ST / PwD candidates
• Seats are reserved for Indian Nationals under the categories Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer / Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Persons with Disability (PwD) according to the Government of India rules.
• The candidates having less than 40% of disability are not entitled for claiming reservations under PwD category.
• Persons who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SC / ST / OBC and whose family has gross annual income below Rupees Eight Lakh are to be identified as EWSs for the benefit of reservation. 
• The candidates under non-regular category can occupy a maximum of 10% seats. The Institute has all rights to modify the above given seat matrix before the commencement of seat allocation process.
