A look inside IIT Guwahati

Remarks :

The admission procedure for IIT Guwahati is through IIT-JEE(Joint Engineering Entrance Advanced). There is an eligibility criterion of a minimum of 75% in central or any other associated high school board in the 12th standard. One also needs to qualify for JEE mains before he or she is eligible for JEE advanced exam.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The faculty-to-student ratio for the first years is not that good, considering everyone is taught the same courses for the first year. People are generally divided in generally 4 divisions where each division has a strength of 250 people for 10-15 teachers. However, from 2nd year onwards, you have a much better student-to-faculty ratio. All of the faculty are highly qualified in their respective field and are excellent at their work including that of teaching. The term exams can be pretty much cleared with a week's worth of study before they begin.

Placement Experience :

The placements for IIT Guwahati are excellent, with 99% of people getting placed through college in my department. The MEDIAN salary of entire B.tech degree is 22lpa which is inargubaly one of the best in nations, and the MEDIAN salary of CSE department is around 36lpa. The highest package offered in 2023 was 2.4cr/pa to a 4th year in the CSE department.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college coming under an institute of national importance receives a good amount of funding from the government of India itself and thus can provide with excellent infrastructure and facilities with an acceptable fee structure. Although, in the case of the current fees structure being expensive for classes, there are numerous scholarships that can be availed.

Campus Life :

The college life is pretty fun and lots of fest are conducted all around the year, from the biggest including the likes of ALCHERINGA, TECHVINCE, and TECHNICHE (which also is the largest tech fest in north east india). The college provides access to large dedicated spaces on campus for the souls interested in sports for their personal and professional growth. The central library of the college is very well maintained with over 2lakh! books that can be borrowed by anyone and also provide a 24*7 connection to fast internet.

Hostel Facilities :

There are thirteen hostels in the campus, (10 for boys, 3 for girls). I only speak for my hostel although the facilities are pretty much same everywhere. For the first two years, we're given a shared room which includes, study table(s), almirah, and two beds. The mess food generally is very good(except maybe lunch times), if you're expecting mess food to be terrible, you're gonna be surprised! Some days, the taste is similar to that of restuarants!

Placement Experience:

The placement of the college is quite good. we cannot disclose the name of the company visiting the campus because the training and placement cell of NIT SILCHAR did not allow us to disclose the names of the companies. My plan after getting my degree is to go through the UPSC exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Because I was interested in this course. Here the faculty-to-student ratio would be around 1:25 which is very good we can clarify our doubts by asking the faculty, the Qualification of the teaching method will mostly be the same, they are PhD, but their teaching experience plays a major role and their teaching method varies from faculty to faculty but it would be nice. Term exams would be around 5 months Difficulty in passing the exams depends on the faculty.

From the 6th sem onwards students are eligible for campus. As per the guidelines of the training and placement cell, the name of the company visited can't be disclosed. There are too many companies visiting the campus for recruitment. Almost all the students who are eligible for placements get placed with a good package.

Till now placement percentage is at a good level. From 6th semester students became eligible for placements. Most of the students get placed. From what I have heard short listing of candidates is based on cgpa basis. Skills are most important to go to software companies.

Placement Experience:

The placement season in the college is a very important one. Even before that, students get to do internships from 2nd year of BTech, providing them exposure to all kinds of companies and job sectors. All kinds of companies like Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, Uber make their way out here in search of bright minds capable of developing the companies further. They even provide the students with Pre Placement Offers, if their internship performance is commendable. The highest package goes upto above 2 crore INR per year, with average packages of above 25 lakhs INR per year. Above 85% of the students get placed in the end, with the others interested in higher studies. Nobody is left idle. My plans after BTech are to pursue a well paying job with a good working atmosphere.
