How would you arrange these in terms of education quality- CBIT, VASAVI, MVSR, VNR, SNIST, MGIT, GRRR?

AR

Studied at VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering And Technology

All these colleges are good at their own places and in terms of ranking. It becomes difficult to arrange these colleges in terms of education quality as everyone possesses a good hold on education.

The quality is the same and it all depends upon the students. There are few who don’t get a job even after 3 years of grad and while some are hard workers.

Let’s take a look below at the arrangement of these colleges: CBIT>VASAVI> MVSR >VNR >SNIST>MGIT>GRRR

These particular colleges contain what matters the most. They have the best professors as they need to maintain their repo. One of my friends is an alumnus from VNR and told me that these colleges have everything that you would want into Engineering.

VASAVI too has its own ways, which do well. CBIT and SNIST are also good. CBIT and VNR are a little freedom-giving. None of the four compromises on the students’ education track record.

What are some mind-blowing facts about NIT Warangal?

RG
Ritik Ghose Posted On : August 17th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institutes of Technology (2020)

Here are some unique facts and experiences that students of NIT Warangal go through on a daily basis.

  • Girls are expected to be behind the hostel gates well before 10 pm.
  • The girls' hostel is very secure and almost gives off the vibes of a jail. They have to go through so many restrictions and their hostel life is very dull.
  • Students look forward to a delicious meal of Aloo Parathas that is served exclusively on Sundays.
  • Most students wake up late on weekends and end up missing breakfast.
  • The professors have this strange habit of teaching with closed fans so that they don't have to speak loudly and strain their vocal cords.
  • There is gender discrimination to a huge extent as boys are allowed to roam around freely any time of the day or night while girls have restrictions.

These were some common experiences shared by my friends at NIT Warangal that I thought should be brought to light.

Which is the most relaxed branch in BITS Pilani?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Founder, NextBigWhat

My answer is only related to the BITS Pilani Goa campus as my knowledge is limited to the same. Here, the most relaxed and laid branch you will find is Mechanical.

The level of difficulty and workload of any branch depends on its lab sessions while the course difficulty is almost the same since BITS follows a relative grading system. Now, when it comes to mechanical, the lab sessions are pretty laid back. All you have to do is turn on the heater in the apparatus and just note down readings after every 10 minutes. Students spend this time gossiping and chilling around. Moreover, this is a group work and only one student is capable of doing such an easy task while others relax. Lab sessions of other branches are very hectic and often extended to 3-4 hours.

The Mechanical branch is good either way; if you are genuinely interested you will land a decent job in the core. If you are here just for chilling, you can relax and still get placed in some non-tech job.

How good of an institution is NSIT, Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 21st, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

One of my friends at NSUT Delhi shared a few unknown facts about the institute. He claims that the majority of the crowd is focused on getting placed and securing good marks rather than developing a genuine interest and passion in the curse. This makes the academic environment dull and unchallenging. Here are some other major drawbacks he faced during his time at NSUT Delhi

  • The institute has a disinterested faculty pool that ruins the lives of many by illogical grading systems. They have no interest in teaching and students have to motivate themselves to study.
  • NSUT Delhi does not only have an outdated curriculum but also has a number of irrelevant courses. This makes the students lose interest in the branch.
  • It may have the DU tag but rarely do recruiters know about this. Its brand value is not at par with other DU-affiliated colleges.
  • The placement scenario is pathetic and the institute releases not have much official data on the same. The exceptional cases of students getting placed in big companies like Google have nothing to do with the institute but the student's hard work.
  • Being a government college the administrative department is pathetic and laid back.
  • The Institute does not enjoy much reputation outside Delhi and is even unknown to many.
  • The campus is small around 140-150 acres and the infrastructure is in a pathetic state.
  • The institute has a policy of 85% reservation for Delhites which limits the crowd diversity and your college experience as a whole.
  • The college has a non-existent alumni network.

So, unless you have no other options it is better to not consider joining NSUT Delhi. You might end up ruining your career.

What is PG life like at JIPMER?

MS
Manjil Sharma Posted On : September 21st, 2023
Studied MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2020)

The PG life at JIPMER is extremely tiring and the clinical branches are hectic You will hardly get 4-5 hours of sleep a day but things will get better after 6 months. The academic environment is without doubt one of the best in the country with a healthy good senior-junior rapport. Students take their thesis work quite seriously.

The PGs hail from different corners of the country so you get to meet a highly diverse crowd with different levels of intellect and talents. many different types of people. Hard work is the common unifying factor among them.

Infrastructure in Jipmer has been constantly improved over the past few years and the hostel facilities are amazing. Decent food is served in the mess and students have 24/7 access to the internet. Some of the best PG departments of JIPMER are Medicine, OBG, Pediatrics, Anaesthesia, Dermat, Opthal, ENT, etc

Overall, PG life at JIPMER is quite challenging but the experience and the JIPMER tag are definitely worth it.

What are the benefits of doing an MBBS from LHMC?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 4th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

My friend shared her first-month experience as an MBBS student at LGMC. The initial days were very gloomy because almost everyone who failed to make it to their dream schools landed in LHMC. Also, the all-girls setting was somewhat new and difficult to adjust to after studying in co-ed all her life. However, soon everything started to become normal. She still vividly remembers how well her first dissection went. She made friends and their best hanging spot became the Statue of Lady Hardinge. All kinds of snacks from tea to noodles were available here.

The seniors were surprisingly more friendly than expected and introduced juniors to various societies and extended parent-like support. Ragging did not exist even in the smallest form making the campus very safe. She witnessed her seniors organizing functions efficiently making her realize the all-girls environment gave more opportunities to girls here than a co-ed college would ever give.

It was a month later that she realized that LHMC had never been her dream college or even her batchmates but the college warmly accepted everyone and would help her achieve her dream.

What is different between CGPI and CGPA in engineering (Mumbai University)? How do I convert both to percentage?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : August 4th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The cumulative grade percentile index can be converted into percentages using two formulas:

  1. CGPI less than 7 can be calculated using the formula 7.1* CGPI + 12
  2. CGPI greater than 7 can be calculated using the formula 7.4*CGPA +10

CGPA

The cumulative grade point average is an educational grading system mainly used in colleges and schools. The method to convert 7 point scale CGPA into a percentage is given below

Initially, you need to convert the 7-point CGPA to a 10-point scale.

If a person has a 5.53 CGPA on 7 point scale CGPA then - (5.53 * 10)/7 = 7.9, which is a 10-point scale CGPA

Now calculate the percentage - 7.9 CGPA * 9.3 (standard number used by companies that come for placements) = 73.47%

How much valuable are the certification courses of NSE BSE NISM?

AD
Aravind Das, Posted On : October 29th, 2021
MBA in Accounting & Finance, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (2010)

The certifications provided by NISM, NSE, and BSE are for educational purposes. They are valuable in the sense that it confirms your awareness about the particular segment.

Example: If you have cleared the NISM Series VIII exam, then it shows that you have enough knowledge about the equity derivatives segment and are qualified to be a dealer. But that is the extent of the matter. It does not certify that you know everything about equity derivatives.

  • They are mainly useful to develop functional knowledge about stock markets in India.
  • It increases your understanding of how the markets work and hence improves your knowledge.
  • These certifications are only useful for regulatory compliance purposes.

Like every course, it will teach you all the basics that you need to know. It will open up a lot of options. But practical knowledge and experience are always valued more than certificates.

My son got rank 3903 in JEE Advanced. We have secured admission in IIIT Bangalore in Imtech (CS). What are some opinions whether to opt for available branches in IIT or continue with IIIT Bangalore?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : October 10th, 2023

The choice mainly depends on your son’s interest field. But I’m assuming his interest lies in CSE.

In that case, IIIT Bangalore is a great place to nurture his ambitions and goals. He will be groomed to become the best IT/Research professional through this college. The research faculty and exposure are both top-notch for UG students at IIIT Bangalore.

The course curriculum gives great importance to practical knowledge. For this reason, he’ll get good projects under the mentorship of experienced faculty/ imminent corporate leaders.

The college is located in the IT hub, and M.Tech is its flagship program. Your son will be exposed to a diverse crowd on campus. He’ll get to intern twice during the course of 5 years. Through these internships, he’ll be exposed to top industry professionals. He may also get the opportunity to work with research professionals from the best US colleges.

The seniors and faculty of IIIT Bangalore greatly encourage research attitudes among juniors. During placement season, M.Tech students receive high-paying job offers.

IIIT Bangalore is a great option if your son is interested in CSE. In this case, you should not run after the IIT tag.

Which is better for an MTech: IIT Delhi or IIT Madras?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 17th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

One of my cousins was in a similar dilemma and she considered the following points before making her decision.

  • Placements-wise, IIT Delhi gives a slight edge to IIT Madras although as a whole the scenario is pretty much the same.
  • The campus ambiance and culture as a whole of IIT Madras are more driven toward individual personality development.
  • If you are planning to start your own business one day, IIT Madras is the right place for you. Its rich startup- culture focuses on inculcating entrepreneurial skills in the students.
  • IIT Madras campus has a better climate than outside the campus so most of the time you will be spending inside the campus.

Although both the colleges have their unique strengths and weaknesses, IIT Madras seems to be a slightly better option than IIT Delhi especially if you are a nature lover !
