Why do so many people take Computer Science from IIT Bombay?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

If I have to be honest, I think pursuing Computer Science at IIT Bombay is just a sheep mentality-driven dream pursued by a majority of Indians. Not many who take CS are genuinely interested and passionate about it, rather they opt for it because most genius minds consider it the best option.

The media comes to play as it advertises the highly inflated packages offered to CS students at IIT Bombay. The aspirant gets attracted to such glittering figures and flocks to IIT Bombay in the pretext to land similar packages. The media and society mold aspirants to believe that money is everything in one’s career and should always be the priority. As a result, students tend to opt for CS and don’t even consider other Engineering branches for fear of getting packages lower than those offered to CS students.

One can easily conclude that most engineering aspirants are unaware of their inclinations and thus become victims of sheep mentality. I have seen many students who join Computer Science and later realize that it’s not their forte.

What is the worst thing about St Stephens College Delhi University?

GS
Gaurang Sharma Posted On : October 26th, 2021
studied Masters from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi (2017)

Getting a seat at St. Stephens College is a dream for every student but it is an impossible task. One of the worst things can be bribery and discrimination for admission to this prestigious college. Apart from this, the following can also be some more reasons:

  • The college has strict guidelines for female students and imposes a curfew after 10 PM. There is no restriction for male students and they can have as much fun.
  • St. Stephen’s favors Malayali students and the college administration easily admits them.
  • The food at the mess is neither tasty nor good. You can easily have the food from outlets outside the campus.
  • You cannot issue more than 3 books from the library and have to return them in a week. Whereas, colleges like Ramjas give 6 books for 15 days.
  • The fests at St. Stephen’s College are extremely boring and you will not enjoy them.

Regardless of these disadvantages, St. Stephen’s is incomparable in terms of academics and the crowd.

Anna University: I've discontinued at the end of my 2nd year, and now sitting in home my question is can I join another college starting from 1st year?

VK
Vigneshvaran K Posted On : December 1st, 2022
Studied at Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India

If you have discontinued at the end of your 2nd year, then the best option is to fill in a gap certificate and restart from the same college itself. But if you are determined to change your college then you will have to deposit the fees of the remaining year and get a leaving certificate. Using this certificate you can start applying for other colleges anytime.

Is it worth joining Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow spending around 9-10 lakhs rupees including everything?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : July 13th, 2023

Other than IIM Lucknow, the other management institutions in the city are very average. Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow is an average institution. It should not be on your priority list.

My friend applied to the Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow with no intention of joining it. She said that even though she gave the interview half-heartedly, she was still selected for admission.

This made my friend feel that the institution holds the personal interview as a mere formality. The main scope of the institution is to admit students and charge high fees, regardless of their scores, GD/PI performance, or other parameters of assessment.

During the placements in 2023, 300+ recruiters visited the campus for placements. The highest domestic CTC stood at 22 LPA and the average CTC stood at 12.34 LPA. The highest number of offers came from the Research & Consulting sector. The top recruiters were HDFC Bank, Deloitte, PWC, ICICI Bank, HCL, Eclerx, etc.

Though the 2023 placement figures are good for the Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow, I would still suggest you aim for joining the top business schools. You can always choose this institution in case you are not able to get admission into a better one.

What is the worst course you've taken or have heard of at IIT Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

In my opinion, the two worst courses one should refrain from ever taking in IIT Delhi are MCP 100 and MCP 101.

MCP 100: This course is Engineering Drawing and is one of the most irrelevant courses offered at IIT Delhi. It is taught by prof Sujeet Kumar Sinha who has no teaching skills and is always in a rush to complete the course. The entire syllabus is completed in just 2 months leaving no space to comprehend what was taught.

MCP 101: This course comprises concepts such as casting and welding which are not expected to be studied by an IITian at least.

Both the courses are a complete waste of time and don’t do justice to the institute's reputation.

How is life at nit srinagar?

PS
Prerona Sarkar Posted On : September 20th, 2023
B.Tech in EE from National Institute of Technology, Agartala (2018)

I have spent four years as a B.Tech student at NIT Srinagar. Here are a few things about life at my college-

  1. Srinagar is amazing. The weather remains cold for most part of the year, so you’ll forget what average Indian summers feel like.
  2. NIT campus is fully secured, and surrounded by Dal Lake.
  3. During winter, everything is covered in snow. It is an absolutely mesmerizing view.
  4. The hostels are clean and provided with all the facilities. 24*7 Wi-Fi facility is available. Mess is separate for each hostel, and the food is decent.
  5. Students depend mostly on self-studies.
  6. Students are sent by the college to other Indian cities (for example, Ghaziabad) for industrial training purposes.
  7. You will be provided with decent sports and gym facilities. There are college clubs which you can join. The IIED Center offers opportunities for self-exploration.
  8. The placements are good, especially for CSE/IT. ECE, Mechanical, and CIV also enjoy good placements. Non-CSE/IT students usually sit for GATE or other competitive exams and perform well in them.

NIT Srinagar is a wonderful college that offers a one-in-a-kind experience.

How's ECE at NIT Kurukshetra?

SR
Sumit Roy Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra

The ECE department at NIT Kurukshetra is average and not at par with NIT standards so go for it only if you are genuinely interested in the branch. Here are some strong reasons why I oppose joining this branch

  • The classroom sessions are boring and only a few exceptional professors are even interested in teaching
  • The workload is challenging and so is the curriculum. You will have to study really hard to maintain a good CGPA, something that directly affects your placements. It will be even more difficult if you lack interest in the branch.
  • The placement scenario is also nothing you will be looking forward to. Only a handful of companies come for ECE students. The majority of the batch will be placed in IT companies, and for this, you will have to study extra CS subjects. The competition is overwhelming and you will feel drained.

The detailed placement statistics of the ECE branch at NIT Kurukshetra have been tabulated below:

Eligible Students

124

Placement Offers

150

Students Placed

105

Placement %

84.68

Range of Package

INR 6.02 LPA -INR 50.59 LPA

Median CTC

INR 14.50 LPA

Average CTC

INR 17.12 LPA

So don’t go for ECE unless you are genuinely interested in it or you are committed to hard work for 4 long years.
