Which is better CSE in thapar or ceramic in IIT BHU ?

SR
Srijeeta Roy Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Ceramic Engineering and CSE are two completely different fields of study. CSE offers better placement and packages as compared to Ceramic and though both these institutes are well-reputed the IIT tag offers certain advantages. So it’s quite difficult to choose an institute over the other.

In terms of internships, since Thapar is a private college, they have their own standards regarding schedules. In the internship session of 2019, almost 1200 students got placed. The internship session of IIT BHU includes many big names such as Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, etc.

In terms of placements, IIT BHU has performed very well. In 2019, the highest package offered was 1.03 Crore per year in domestic and four students received international offers of 1.53 Crore. Whereas, Thapar received the highest package of 39 LPA, which is quite low but the average packages of both colleges are almost similar. IIT BHU placement statistics show that 171 students chose core companies.

Thapar has better hostel and mess facilities whereas IIT BHU’s campus is spread over 400 acres, which is 150 acres more than Thapar’s. In terms of connectivity, IIT BHU has better connectivity and therefore can be assumed to have more exposure. Both colleges are good and have their own advantages. So pick the branch of your choice.

Which is better, IIT Patna or IIT Bhubaneswar?

SR
Sachin Rao Posted On : August 13th, 2020
PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Patna (2019)

Despite being a new IIT, IIT Bhubaneswar stands out in terms of Placement. The average CTC of IIT Bhubaneswar was 11.5 lakh/annum in 2019. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, IBM, etc visited the IIT Bhubaneswar campus for last year’s placement drive. The highest CTC offered was around 39 lakh/annum. Almost 70% of the students got placed from all departments in 2019.

Apart from studies and placement, IIT Bhubaneswar is also very rich in its culture. A lot of cultural workshops, events are performed on the campus which encourages the students to showcase their talents. The student council arranges various extra-curricular, technical, and other activities around the year to motivate the students further to perform well not only in their activities but in their academics. They preserve great faculties on their campus in all the departments. The hostels are newly constructed with single occupancy. IIT Bhubaneswar is expanding and improving over time.

If we compare IIT Patna with the same then in terms of placement, it is not behind. According to 2019 placement highlights the average package offered was 13.5 LPA. The highest package of 2019 was 38 LPA. When the infrastructure is concerned it cannot be compared with the old IITs but they are well diversified. For all the branches the faculties are really good here. IIT Patna also maintained the culture of IITs by grooming their students for cultural activities or sports. They also conduct different sorts of workshops. Hostels are equipped with basic amenities and all the requirements are within walking distance from the campus whether foods or railway stations. A hospital is also there on the campus for medical emergencies. IIT Patna has a huge library equipped with over 10000 books and journals, and various online resources.

Both IIT Patna and IIT Bhubaneswar good IITs, so it is hard to pick one institute over the other.

Which one is better for mechanical, IIT Bhubaneswar or IIT Jodhpur?

PM
Pankaj Mann Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2021)

Every branch has its own unique features that might be more appropriate in line with your preference. As it is not possible to study in all the IITs, one may have only a little knowledge about other institutes - not enough to quench your thirst for information.

Talking of IIT Bhubaneswar, it has one of the best mechanical departments in all mediocre IITs, with quite an experienced faculty and really experienced professors.

  • Campus: The campus provides the students with all fundamental facilities, labs, and high category workshops which helps the student to get more practical knowledge about the subject.
  • Seminars: Additionally, they often organize fascinating seminars and interactive sessions by professionals that are extremely informative and interactive for the students. The school also motivates students and offers them the opportunity to work on their projects right from the first year by giving them access to DIC (Design Innovation Centre).
  • Placements: Placements corporations like Nalco, Tata Steel, Vedanta, Tech Mahindra, etc has headquarters in Bhubaneswar that eventually provide a higher chance for position and placements with the average package as released by the Institute of the mechanical department is 8.8 LPA while the highest is around 14 LPA.

Coming to IIT Jodhpur, it follows a curriculum that is comparable to most of the old IITs and being a new IIT, you may have a chance to have an opportunity regarding changes in the course curriculum. The school has got one of the best pool of Faculty Members with great work experience in analysis and teaching.

  • Campus: The infrastructure is very up to date and is still under construction. The accommodation provided by the institute is incredibly clean and up to the mark. They offer 6 common rooms and if you prefer your personal space will be provided. Apart from this, single AC rooms are also assigned in addition to that athletic facility and other basic facilities are within the hostel. It makes it easier for the student to manage their mode well.
  • Placement: If we talk about the placement here are at par with other IITs and they are usually similar to 2008 league IITs. Recruiters for each core as well as non-core regularly visit here. Some regular recruiters for mechanical engineering are ISRO, TVS, Mahindra, Indian Navy, etc. The institute also offers IIP(Industrial Immersion Program). Through this program, eligible students are able to grab Internships from the first year itself in Companies like Mahindra, Tata, TVS, etc. It is unique to IIT Jodhpur.

Before swinging your finger down on one Institute, you can seek advice from as many seniors as you’ll be able to and build a hip and right call.

Which would be better, metallurgy or biotechnology in NIT Durgapur or metallurgy or mining in IIEST Shibpur?

CJ
Chirag Jain Posted On : September 17th, 2020
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2021)

NIT Durgapur and IIEST Shibpur both are excellent universities for pursuing Bachelor's and Master's in Engineering. Both institutes are located in different parts of West Bengal in famous areas. NIT Durgapur has been ranked and 46th in Engineering Category by the NIRF Rankings in India. It does carry a reputation value to the degree by being a premier institute of Engineering. IIEST is a lesser-known institute but well advanced in their research faculty and content.

In a nutshell:

Colleges

Admission

Placements

Tuition fee

NIT Durgapur

JEE Main

70%

1,49,100

IIEST Shibpur

JEE Main

Metallurgy: 68.6%

Mining: 80.1%

1,37,000

Courses:

  • Metallurgy or Biotechnology at NIT can only be selected after the first year depending on the marks scored by the candidate. Since it is a premier institute, it will be relatively difficult to get the subject of your choice.
  • At IIEST, metallurgy is offered in B.Tech however, mining engineering is only offered in the dual program of B.Tech + M.Tech. Thus students who wish to pursue mining engineering at IIEST Shibpur will have to go for the dual degree program.

Admission:

Admission at NIT would be much more competitive than IIEST. It requires a higher JEE mains rank. The choice of the subject involves even more competitiveness as it is done at the end of the first year based on CGPA. Most students who get selected at NIT do not wish to go for metallurgy, however, if you are interested, then it is one of the best institutes. IIEST is relatively easy when it comes to admissions and choice of subjects.

Placements:

  • At IIEST metallurgy and mining are considered as research-based subjects and thus do not have high paid placements at the start. However, the mining course does offer better placements and opportunities to study at other premium and specific institutes in India which can land a good job in the future.
  • NIT Durgapur, on the other hand, can provide better placements due to its reputation standard.

The B.Tech. program at IIEST may not hold much value, but it is supplemented by excellent research professors who encourage students to take part in national missions and research projects. The competitiveness at NIT won’t provide that opportunity to every student.
