Both the choices IIT Bhubaneswar(EE) and IIT Guwahati(Civil Engineering) have their own significance.
Coming to the specifics, the Electrical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. The placement stats are also better than most of the new IITs. In the year 2019, around 86% of students got placed from the Electrical Engineering branch. The official average package for the batch 2017 as released by the institute was 8.5 LPA, which is more than a decent package for a fresher. A good number of Core companies, software companies and PSU’s hire Electrical Engineers (EE) from IIT Bhubaneswar. The subjects taught in Electrical Engineering, have their applications in day to day life. Hence this subject always has potential in the future.
Coming to Civil Engineering in IIT Guwahati, the civil branch may not be as lucrative as CS, IT branches. But it does offer some great opportunities. In core engineering and the Pvt sector, there are very few companies that offer decent packages. In 2019 around 77% of students got placed in Civil Engineering. The average package for this branch is around 6.6 LPA to 7 LPA. Hindustan Construction Company, L & T, DLF, Tata Projects, Gammon India are some of the major recruiters for Civil Engineering.
