One of my friends is an alumnus of IIT Madras and here is his experience on the first day at the institute.
It was back in 2016. My friend was so excited that he reached the college two days before the assigned date. He missed the introduction part on the website of IIT M. On reaching the campus the security at the gate asked him to go to CCW which handles the hostel accommodation. As the undergraduates are supposed to come after two days. He didn’t get his accommodation that day.
He roamed around the campus with his parents and got to meet some students who came for master’s admission. They also got a place to stay for two days. Overall, it was a good experience for him.

A few of my friends graduated from the IIT Madras and here are some points related to your question that might help you. I am assuming that you are asking about the course papers.
You do need to remember some basic things like the Papers are regular like you had in school. The questions are from the course curriculum. You can of course expect a basic level of difficulty in the questions. Everything depends on the course and the faculty. It can get very easy and it can get difficult, according to that.
IIT Madras has a beautiful campus. If you are an animal lover, you will love it. Blackbuck runs around the campus like stray dogs. Monkeys can enter your hostel rooms anytime, and rob you. It’s also pretty normal to see Hyenas roaming around the campus at night.
IIT Madras campus used to be a part of Guindy National Park. Different departments are literally scattered around the jungle. The campus has many overhead tanks. You can sneak out at night with your friends and watch Chennai city from the top of these tanks (though it is against the rules).

Both the options you have chosen here are equally good but IIT Madras is one of the 7 old IITs and is a well-reputed institute. If you are not looking to join a particular branch, my suggestion would be to go with IIT Madras. The placement statistics are great and overall, you will also get exposure to good faculty.
If you are looking to join Computer Science, you can think of going to BITS Hyderabad, but you should know that there is an increase in fees every year. This increase will be around 10-15%.
