To get into IIT Madras, you need to clear JEE Advanced exam. Your All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Advanced is crucial for admission to IIT Madras, as the institute considers only candidates who clear the JEE Advanced exam and meet the institute's cutoff criteria.

The minimum AIR required for admission to IIT Madras varies from year to year and depends on several factors such as the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam, and the number of available seats. In general, you should aim to secure an AIR in the top 500-1000 to have a good chance of getting admission to IIT Madras.

To achieve this rank, you need to prepare well for the JEE Advanced exam, which tests your understanding of concepts in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. You should practice solving problems and take mock tests to improve your speed and accuracy.

Apart from your AIR, IIT Madras also considers other factors such as your performance in Class 12 exams, your academic background, and your performance in other co-curricular activities. So, focus on your overall development and maintain a good academic record to increase your chances of getting admission to IIT Madras.

Studied at Amity University (2019).

It is dependent on which branch you desire. There is some information I gathered from the internet about this particular topic, which might give you a basic idea.

  • According to the year 2019, the starting rank for acquiring a seat at IIT Madras was AIR62.
  • So If you wish to get into one of IIT Madras' top three branches, you'll need an AIR 2000 or above.
  • Again, I say that this is all based on a broad categorization.
  • For some courses, the rank criteria are a little less stringent.

So check the recent cutoffs or admission criteria first before applying.

For further reference, check out the recent stats below, containing the cut-offs for major branches:

Courses General OBC
Aerospace engineering 3670 1690
Chemical engineering 3636 1847
Civil engineering 5727 2180
Computer science and engineering 158 92
Electrical engineering 844 427
Mechanical engineering 2314 1034
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering 5554 2805

These are some of the things I found out from my research. It is suggested that you try to interact with some ex-students of the college, they will be able to give you a proper insight about everything.
