Campus: The campus of IIT-M is a part of the 2.5km² land which was formerly a part of Guindy National Park. All the facilities necessary for the students are available on campus. The Humanities and Science Block has the capacity to include 400 students at once.
Climate: The weather in Chennai is mostly dry, so you have to make sure you carry water. The temperature inside the campus varies from the main city because of the greenery. Initially, it is difficult for people who are from the North but they can always get into the library which is fully air-conditioned.
Academic life: The classes are conducted for a total of 4-5 hours and the rest of the 19-20 is for you to self-study. You can also take part in extracurriculars or pick up membership of the Centre for Innovation so that your imagination is enhanced. Great industrial collaborations take place at IIT-M as well.
Hostel: The double-occupancy style hostels are available for students in their first years. There is a common computer room for hostels too. Washing machines, music rooms, sports facilities, TV and tech rooms are available. All hostel meetings take place in common rooms of respective hostel rooms.
Sports: Swimming pool, cricket ground, gym, stadium, and multipurpose indoor stadiums are available for the student's activity centre.
The sports fest takes place every September wherein students from the state meet each other for volleyball, tennis, hockey, basketball, table tennis, football, badminton, and weightlifting.
