At IIM Ahmedabad, rather than hostels, there is a dorm culture. Usually, around 25-40 students reside in a dorm.
There is room for improvement, but you won’t face any major issues. You will love your time there on campus.
To be very clear, you will not be given the option to choose your own hostel in the first year. The authority allots the hostels after entire admission process is completed. After the student reports at the respective hostel and registers his/her name, rooms are allotted.
In general, first-year boys are provided accommodation in Hostel 8, Hostel 9 and Hostel-10. On the other hand, first-year girls are given accommodation in Nivedita.
Some brief information regarding the allotment, change, and experiences in hostels are listed below:
Making friends out of an unknown crowd is needed in the first year of college. Staying with known people is not as interesting as making new friends out of roommates. Discussing different topics during a hangout, getting some private time because of different class timing, and enjoying life in the hostel rooms become a part of life in those glorious years.
The hostels for the female students are called the Rohini Bhawan and Prithvi Bhawan. The occupancy for the former is 6 students in one room. The hostel is for the first and second-year students.
The Prithvi Bhawan accommodates students who are in their third and final year. The occupancy is 5 students in one room.
The hostel for the first-year students which is more popularly called the Aakash Bhawan accommodates four students in one room. The same can be said for the hostel for the students of the second year which is called the Aryabhatta Bhawan.
The third-year students are allotted the Brahmos Bhawan and the Bhaskar Bhawan. In the former hostel, there are 2 students in one room, and in the latter, there are 4 students.
In the final year, the students are allotted the Surya Bhawan. In this arrangement, 1 student gets one room.
As you all know that IIT Bhilai is quite new as it started in 2016. So, it's working in its temporary campus until the permanent one gets ready.
Despite the temporary campus, you’ll still get a hostel with good facilities. Currently, there are three different hostels:
The mess facility is only provided at Castle Ena so you will have to go there for dining. Also, a bus service is there which picks up students to mess.
Some basic features you need to know:
These are some of the facts about the hostels of IIT Bhilai. If you find it appealing enough you should go for it. Ultimately it will be your decision.
Undoubtedly, this one of the most obvious questions that come to our mind when we are about to shift to a new place.
Bathrooms are extremely important for our day-to-day routine, so coming to your question the bathrooms in the boys’ hostels are quite good. My brother has spent one year as a hosteller in Hostel-9 named as B.Sen Hall and till now have no complaints regarding the bathrooms.

The hostel-3 OR H-3 is the latest inclusion in the list of hostels of IIT-Palakkad. This answer would be somewhat the same for both boys and girls.
The maintenance of the rooms is on you. You need to clean it, including the bathrooms.
Hostels in NIT C for the PG students are not good. Students are allotted to the Professor's Apartment in their first tear.
This was the scenario of the first year and for the second year students, the scenario is a bit different. The second-year students are mostly accommodated in the MBA hostels which have toilets attached with the rooms but are far from the previous apartments where you were living in the first year.
Wi-Fi is available on the campus and works well for the new buildings and hostels. At the time of joining they will tell you that the new hostels are under construction and will be ready to move soon.
Please take a note that if possible go for the kitchen as that will be the only single room accommodation available for you as a PG student in NIT Calicut.
Some of my friends are IIT Madras alumni. Here is their insight into the hostel facilities of the institute.
A unique trait of the IIT Madras campus is its forested area. Although it is outside the boundaries of the hostel zone, you can wander off to this area when you need a Psychological high.
One of my friends is from IIM Kashipur, so I will be sharing his experiences, which will only refer to the hostel facilities provided by IIM Kashipur.
We have an online portal where we can post any issues with hot water, RO filter replacement, tube light replacement, or any other hostel-related issues. The problems are resolved on a priority basis within a few days. Honestly, hostel facilities are one of the best things you get in IIM.
No, it is not mandatory to stay at the hostel in your 1st year. You can leave the hostel at any point if you feel the requirement. However, it is best if you stay there because it can help you in the upcoming exams. It can assist in saving up your travel time.
You can also acquire a lot of assistance from the people staying at the hostel, besides you. The major pitfall is usually felt by students who live outside the hostel premises as it can be difficult to run back and forth between your residence and the campus.
