Do AIIMS Nagpur MBBS students have to wear uniforms prescribed by the institute? If yes, then what's that uniform?

Aparna Das Posted On : June 1st, 2023

After a long battle and protests, AIIMS Nagpur students have finally managed to abolish the uniform dress code. This rule came out after relentless social media demonstrations. The decision was finalized by Dr. MH Rao. Additionally, relaxation was also made in mess, hostel, and campus timings.

As for the alteration in the dress code, boys are expected to wear formal trousers and a full-sleeved shirt, while girls can either wear a salwar kurta with sleeves or formal trousers and a full-sleeved shirt. In addition to this, every AIIMS Nagpur student has to wear black shoes, socks, and an apron with the institute’s logo on the half-sleeve.

Can anyone give more insight to AIIMS Nagpur as many are saying it's not worth taking an admission there? What about patient load?

Himanshu Yadav Posted On : June 3rd, 2023

AIIMS Nagpur was established in 2012 and has grown at an exponential rate ever since then. Similarly, the older AIIMS were once new and they proved their credibility through their growth and achievements. New AIIMS have a better development rate than a new govt medical college. It operates from a permanent fully functional campus. The campus is beautiful and the infrastructure is state of the art being an institute of national importance with a huge fund from the central government. It also enjoys a locational advantage being located in Nagpur, the zero mile of India. Apart from the faculties, AIIMS tag, low fees, and excellent academics there are many more reasons why people consider AIIMS Nagpur as a preferable choice to other AIIMS

  • There are interns to guide you
  • Owing to the recent PG courses, there will be junior resents, making it feel like a developed college
  • Excellent academics are taught by highly qualified teachers.
  • The college is fully facilitated with the best amenities a well-developed college has.
  • The fees are extremely low around INR
  • Gym facilities are also available.
  • As for the patient flow, like any other AIIMS, people from all over the country flock to AIIMS Patna for their treatment.
  • AIIMS Patna is one of the most disciplined AIIMS with strict rules and regulations to maintain the decorum of the institute.

The high cutoffs of AIIMS Nagpur again are a testament to its worth and credibility so go for it without any hesitation.

Should I take AIIMS Nagpur or any state medical college?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : June 4th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

I would always recommend people to go for new AIIMS than old state colleges because the old colleges are functioning with their full-fledged potential and won’t witness much changes or growth in the near future. The new AIIMS on the other hand have great potential and even within a short period of time have almost reached the same level as these state colleges. Now imagine the potential they hold in the years to come. The new AIIMS have a top-notch infrastructure and very dynamic faculties. If this wasn’t enough to convince you to look at the following points to understand further

  • Student-Teacher Ratio: The student-teacher ratio is much less in any AIIMS Institution compared to any other state medical college. This ensures better allocation of resources and attention to each student.
  • Faculty: Owing to the high pay offered by AIIMS, most elite faculties prefer AIIMS to other state colleges.
  • Facilities: Being completely funded by the central government, AIIMS has superior facilities in every aspect; hostels, laboratories, hospitals, libraries, sports, and even mess.
  • Hostel: Sparing a few top medical colleges and some other newly established govt colleges, the hostels' conditions for medical colleges are horrible. However, AIIMS provides the most comfortable hostel life one could ask for with minimal costs. The best part is every student getting single rooms from the first year itself
  • Student Diversity— AIIMS has 100% AIQ seats in AIIMS while state colleges have only 15%. So, AIIMS has a much more diverse student body.
  • Latest technology and Expensive equipment: AIIMS, especially the newly established ones have the most modern instruments and lab facilities.
  • Research Work— AIIMS always focuses on research even at the UG level while other medical colleges don’t give much importance to research work.
  • Patient Load: It’s completely a misconception that new AIIMS don’t have patient load like other colleges. The patient load, because of India’s huge population is almost equal everywhere.

Ultimately, it’s your learning that matters and not whether you belong to AIIMS Delhi or from the lowest-ranked college in a state.

How did you manage to get admission into AIIMS Nagpur?

Namrata Das Posted On : June 6th, 2023

My friend shared the strategy she adopted that helped her get admission to AIIMS Nagpur. Here are a few tips that helped her

  • Study 3-4 hours daily right from the start
  • Give equal attention to all subjects and solve at least 50 MCQs daily.
  • Solve previous year's question papers as most of the questions are based on these
  • Make a well-structured timetable and follow it religiously.
  • Revise your concepts regularly instead of just completing the syllabus.
  • The sooner you complete the syllabus the more time you will have to do mock tests and revise. I would recommend you complete your syllabus 2 months prior or at least a month before.
  • NCERT is the best option for all subjects. Additionally, you can refer to HC Verma for Physics and Trueman for Biology.
  • Taking care of your mental and physical health is equally important to utilize your potential to the fullest.
  • Eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep are very necessary.
  • Reward yourself with breaks and cheat days to ensure a break from studies.

Thus with the right mindset, level of dedication, and hard work, anyone can get admission to AIIMS Nagpur.

Is a personal vehicle allowed in AIIMS Nagpur for an MBBS student?

Sabeer Chalana Posted On : June 10th, 2023

No, an AIIMS, Nagpur MBBS student is not allowed to bring his personal vehicle inside the campus except a bicycle. One can even get bicycles on rent here and even its maintenance is taken care of.

These bicycles can be carried inside the Metro also, so they are handy and convenient. AIIMS Nagpur is planning to reconsider this rule once the construction work of the campus is completed. The main reason for restricting public vehicles is to avoid accidents in construction areas.

This rule imposes no restrictions on the students commuting to and from the college as there are Bus services that pick up and drop students from the hostel and college.

Which college is better, AIIMS Nagpur or GMC Nagpur?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 30th, 2023

In order to determine, which of the two; AIIMS Nagpur and GMC is better, I have listed the pros of the two institutes individually. Go for the institute that appeals to you the most.

Pros of GMC Nagpur

  • GMC Nagpur delivers top-quality education and has a top-notch lab equipped with the latest instruments.
  • It is the largest medical college in Asia. The campus is surrounded by greenery and has a pleasant ambiance.
  • There are separate opds and wards for most of the departments.
  • GMC Nagpur has a huge patient inflow and is large and managed by a good number of resident doctors
  • Gmc Nagpur has its own Trauma center and Superspeciality hospital in addition to wards for TB and infectious diseases.
  • There are separate hostels for both boys and girls with all the general amenities.
  • GMC Nagpur has its own ground for sports and other recreational activities.

It certainly is a decent choice for pursuing Mbbs,MS,MD etc .

Pros of AIIMS Nagpur

The AIIMS tag in itself carries huge weightage.

  • AIIMS is known for its strong focus on clinical aspects rather than theoretical aspects.
  • The plans for building its campus seem very promising in the near future.
  • Good hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls.
  • However, AIIMS Nagpur is dependent on GMC Nagpur for a lot of things such as campus facilities.

I would always suggest you go for GMC Nagpur as it has better facilities than AIIMS Nagpur and seems more promising.

Is anyone from AIIMS Nagpur? Is it worth to take admission in AIIMS Nagpur?

AIIMS Nagpur has made tremendous strides in the last few years. It has started academic services, day-care department, and outpatient department. Compared to other AIIMS, the faculty-student ratio for AIIMS Nagpur is less. So, every student gets the required attention. Being centrally funded, it has excellent facilities. The laboratories, library, and hospital are well-equipped with latest technology and equipment. You will certainly get good facilities and academics in AIIMS Nagpur.

Should I go for AIIMS Nagpur or PGI Rohtak?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : June 10th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Without any doubt, PGI Rohtak is a better choice than AIIMS Nagpur. I am also mentioning some points that work in favor of my stance.

  • PGI Rohtak was established as early as 1960, while AIIMS Nagpur is a newly established college in 2018. It lacks a reputation and has less experience staff.
  • PGI Rohtal is huge and spreads across an area of 350 acres while AIIMS Nagpur has only 150 areas.
  • The clinical exposure and patient load at PGI Rohtak are way ahead of AIIMS Nagpur
  • PGI has the advantage of the State quota for PG which is lacking in AIIMS Nagpur.
  • Locals of Haryana can go to and fro their homes on weekends which is not possible for people of Nagpur.
  • Rohtak has a calm vibe with a peaceful life and friendly people were Nagpur gives the hustle-bustle vibes of a city and has a lot of pollution.
  • PGI has a huge batch size in comparison to AIIMS Nagpur meaning more competition and growth.
  • AIIMS Nagpur has a diverse student body so you might face a language barrier while PGI mostly has people from Haryana.

Although AIIMS Nagpur is growing at a fast pace it won't be able to reach the level of PGI Rohtak in the near future.
