Which should I choose and why? IIT Bhubaneswar (5 year dual degree in mech.eng.) or BITS Pilani,Pilani for electronics and instrumentation?

A
Admin Posted On : July 3rd, 2024

I would say choosing 5 years dual degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar is a better option than BITS Pilani for electronics and instrumentation.

  • IIT Bhubaneswar is known for its academic standards and it is a government-run institution whereas BITS Pilani is a privately run institution.
  • IIt Bhubaneswar offers great opportunities for the student to excel in both academic and research work with their extensive academic curriculums.
  • The placement records for the department were excellent in 2023 with 82% of the students being placed and having a median package of INR 12 LPA.
  • Some of the top recruiters were Google, Amazon, Microsoft and more

Does the EWS quota make much difference in FMS or IIM Calcutta?

UN
Udayan Nath Posted On : December 15th, 2022
IIM Bangalore PGP 2016-18

The EWS quota makes a slight difference in your chances of getting into FMS or IIM Calcutta. It is not the major factor that determines your eligibility. Some major parameters that are considered are:

  • CAT score

  • 10 and 12 marks

  • Graduation score

  • Work Experience

A good past record with 99 CAT score will increase your chances of getting into IIM Calcutta. Study hard for the CAT exam as the competition is very tough.

So rather than focusing on minor factors like EWS, focus more on your preparation.

No, IIM Indore does not have any sports quota for its IPM admissions. A candidate is shortlisted based on his/her previous academic performance, entrance (aptitude) score and interview score. The only quota in place is the conventional reservation quota (for SC, ST, OBC, PwD candidates).

What should I take: computer science, IIT Ropar, or production and industrial engineering, IIT Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both IIT Delhi and IIT Ropar are highly reputable institutes in India, and both have strong programs in production industrial engineering and computer science engineering, respectively. However, if I were in your place, I would have chosen IIT Delhi Production and Industrial Engineering. Here are some strong points supporting my stance

  • Location : Located in the capital city, IIT Delhi offers great access to coaching institutes for preparation for IAS, IES, GATE, or any other competitive exams. This won’t be possible at IIT Ropar.
  • Reputation: IIT Delhi's Overall ranking by NIRF is 3 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 while that of IIT Ropar is  33 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023.
  • Reputation: IIT Delhi is not just an institute it’s a brand that every recruiter and student is aware of.
  • Curriculum: IIT Delhi Production and Industrial Engineering has courses similar to Mechanical students so the job opportunities are also similar. Additionally, you can learn some management skills through subjects like industrial engineering subjects Quality control, Operations research, Production planning, and control, etc
  • Placements: IIT Delhi has a track record of excellent placements way better than IIT Ropar. It can further be understood through the table below

Particulars

IIT Delhi

IIT Ropar

Highest CTC

INR 2 CPA

INR 55 LPA

Average CTC

INR 1.25 CPA

INR 22.49 LPA

Median CTC

-

INR 16.62 LPA

Top Recruiters

American Express, Bajaj Auto, Boston Consulting Group, Enphase Solar Energy, Intel, Praxis Global Alliance, etc.

Google, Amazon, Ericsson

Considering everything, IIT Delhi is a better option than IIT Ropar. The opportunities, brand name, and academic environment you will have access to will be unmatched. However, if you have a specific inclination towards the CS branch and want to pursue a career in the same, you can also consider joining IIT Ropar as the CS branch has diverse job opportunities even for the average students.

SM
Sanya Malik Posted On : March 15th, 2023
PGDM from International Management Institute (Graduated 2022)

Yes, IMI Delhi is open to freshers who have recently graduated and are looking to pursue management education. It's important to know that more than 60% of the current batch at many colleges, including IMI Delhi, comprises fresh graduates from highly diverse backgrounds like Engineering, Honours in chemistry, mathematics, biology, economics, English, BBA, BArch, and more. The freshers add dynamism and vibrancy to the ecosystem and are often showcased as graduates with fresh ideas, but that is not always the case.

Peer learning groups and activities form a major chunk of your b school life. So, it is essential to find the right group of people to associate with from the beginning. Peer learning happens not only during class assignments or term projects but also during external corporate and b school competitions of which the particular group is a part.

IMI Delhi is a paradise for freshers, and the average age of the institute may be between 22–23. Therefore, if you decide to enroll, you can expect a vibrant and dynamic ecosystem with plenty of opportunities to engage in peer learning and corporate competitions.
