How is IBS Hyderabad for MBA co-curricular, extra curriculum, campus life, and environment?

SG
Shubham Gupta Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Studied at ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad

In pursuing an MBA at IBS Hyderabad, a case-based study methodology is utilized for teaching. The professor will provide a case for every class, and students must prepare for the case by reviewing relevant chapters and linking the concepts to the practical example discussed in the case. During class, the professor will manage the discussions on the case and students will present their viewpoints, which may be accepted or countered by the professor. The professor will guide the discussions to ensure the correct understanding of concepts is reached. In some instances, concepts will be taught by the professor. However, the college encourages self-study and does not spoon-feed the students.

A wide range of student clubs is available on campus, covering various fields. Each club is managed by students with a professor acting as a mentor. The clubs are responsible for conducting various activities such as quizzes, treasure hunts, guest lectures, movie screenings, sports competitions, and more. These clubs provide students with exposure to event management.

Annual events include a festival in January, where all clubs are responsible for preparing different events, and an annual sports fest organized by the sports club, where students from different colleges participate.

IBS Hyderabad offers a vibrant campus life with facilities such as a resort-like environment, two food messes, two cafeterias, an all-night cafeteria, and a well-equipped gym. The clubs schedule events during weekends and the college have a bus service to the city. On weekdays, buses run only in the evenings while on weekends they run throughout the day. Food festivals are regularly organized in the food messes, and there are many small dhabas and restaurants near the campus to cater to students' taste buds.

How good is the EFPM program from IIM Rohtak and what are the career prospects in the long run?

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : January 18th, 2023
IIM Rohtak

IIM Rohtak is the wrong place to study EFPM/FPM. It is a part-time program offered by IIM Rohtak that is not a degree program or recognized as a Ph.D. After paying 75% of the total fee, the program has 50-60% dropouts in various batches in the first 1.5 years. The Institute is adamant about not making it a Ph.D. program, as most IIMs have.

The curriculum load is extremely heavy, with extremely stringent rules and regulations that are impossible to manage with a regular job. The faculty's overall attitude toward experienced industry executives is also unprofessional. The administration is the absolute worst. There is no knowledge of new research areas.

How is IIM Nagpur for a fresher?

SG
Shubham Gehlot Posted On : January 17th, 2023
UG Medical Student from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur (Expected 2026)

If you are a fresher and not sure about joining IIM Nagpur, you can consider the following factors

  • Options: A very important aspect while choosing a college is the list of options you are choosing from. You might have a different plethora of options than others. Research the placements, faculty, and infrastructure of these colleges and then decide.
  • Academic background: IIM Nagpur offers excellent exposure and placements to students who are Software oriented or with a Finance backfiring. But, if in case, you have an interest in core backgrounds, then your chances are low as recruiters prefer experienced professionals for such roles
  • Personal Interest: If you are included in developing technical skills rather than managerial skills then IIM Nagpur is definitely a good option.
  • Roles offered: Freshers, as well as experienced students, are offered roles in Product Management, Business Analysis, Consulting etc. IIM Nagpur has an excellent alumni base and teaching methodology for these roles specifically.

I think IIM Nagpur does not discriminate much between freshers and experienced people. So don’t worry and give your luck a try.

Which laptop is better for IIM IPM Rohtak students? Macbook or windows laptop?

AS
Ankit Sharma Posted On : January 11th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2020)

There is no specific laptop that is good for the IIM Rohtak IPM course. Generally speaking, Windows is the best choice because

  • It is cheaper. As a student, you have to incur minimum expenses and gain maximum knowledge through it. For the same Windows is the best option as it is less expensive. All you need to do is choose a better configuration of a cheaper Windows Laptop and you are good to go.
  • Most countries don’t support MAC. Most colleges and students prefer Windows. Using Apple devices is not a viable option for students as they have to connect with various devices which is not very easy with an IOS device.

Does a gap year after graduation affect IIM Calcutta admission?

HK
Himanshu Khurana Posted On : December 15th, 2022
Studied Accounting and Finance (Graduated 2022)

No, usually a gap year does not affect your chances of getting into IIM Calcutta. Your reason for the same should be a genuine one. One of my friends had to take a gap post-graduation due to severe health issues. But she got into IIM Calcutta. When asked about the same during the interview she told them the actual reason. The panel deemed the reason as a genuine one and she got selected. So don’t let a simple gap year demotivate you to the point of giving up on IIM Calcutta. It always gives second chances to talented students. Just make sure your reason is genuine and you are able to justify it during the interview.

Is 65% in graduation enough for XLRI provided that I get a good XAT score, and perform well on the GD/PI?

TS
Tanisha Sheth Posted On : July 26th, 2021
Works at Kerala State Electricity Board (2006-Present)

In most cases, XLRI interviewers don’t give much attention to the previous academic scores. But, if you are a low scorer, then the institute usually expects a better XAT score and a good enough profile.

The points below state the requirements that you should meet in order to secure a seat at XLRI

  1. It is true that cracking XAT and having an excellent score is somewhat difficult than cracking CAT. There are additional data manipulation questions asked in XAT, other than basic questions. You need to prepare a lot in order to have a decent score in XAT.
  2. Every student should study with an interest in what he/she is gaining. Solving puzzles, attempting previous year’s XAT verbal questions, understanding the pattern of the exam, etc is what students need to indulge in.
  3. If you have an average score in graduation, then it cannot be changed anymore. So, it is advised to have at least 97 percentile in XAT to expect a call from XLRI.

Therefore, although XAT is tough, students need to prepare with their full enthusiasm in order to succeed in getting a good score. Having a good score in XAT and performing well in the interviews is enough for you to get a seat in XLRI.

Should I join IIM Indore as a fresher or give a second CAT attempt to convert IIM ABC?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : June 26th, 2023

The decision depends on many factors because CAT is a highly competitive exam that requires dedicated preparation. If you think you can manage your CAT preparation along with your job, you can give yourself a second chance while getting familiar with some of the courses that are going to come up in the PGP program. You should use this time to upskill yourself in your field of interest.

ABC is also a bigger brand than IIM Indore, but ultimately, it's the skills that matter in the long run. The PGP program will be rigorous, and you should be mentally prepared to handle it. Additionally, there are no guarantees in life or in CAT, and the selection process involves an element of luck, with the interview round being extremely subjective. I suggest having an honest discussion with yourself and weighing all your options before making a decision.
