Is NIT Goa good? What companies come for placement and what salary do they offer?

NK
Nishita Kaur Posted On : August 26th, 2021
M.Tech Very-Large-Scale Integration, National Institute of Technology, Goa (2021)

I will share my experience at NIT Goa after I took admission in M.Tech in VLSI at the institute. Please remember that these will be my thoughts and might differ from person to person.

College Campus

  • NIT Goa currently operates from a temporary campus located at Goa Engineering College in Farmagudi, Goa which is approximately 29 km away from the state capital at Panaji.
  • Since it is a temporary campus, it has limited accommodation facilities and thus M.Tech and Ph.D. pursuing boys are not given any hostel. They have to stay on their own.
  • For food, you can use the hostel mess and college canteens which will cost you around INR 40 – 50 per day.
  • For commuting, you can use the bus service provided by the college completely free of cost. Otherwise, you can definitely keep your own motorcycle or scooter since you are staying outside campus.

Academics

  • There is a separate VLSI lab for M.Tech students which is open for use 24X7. Each M.Tech student is allocated a separate PC with its user ID.
  • The labs have access to all the required software you will ever need to play around with, simulate and verify your ideas. For example Cadence, MATLAB, Mentor, and Xilinx.

Placements

  • In the VLSI domain, many companies such as Intel Corporation, NXP Semiconductor, Global Foundries, and ON Semiconductor visit the campus for summer internships while companies like Sankhya Labs and C-DAC have visited the campus for final placements.
  • The industry tie-ups are increasing and will increase further as more students pass from the institute.
  • The placement data for the year 2020-21 is given below for your reference. It is an overall placement record
Particulars Statistics
Placement Percentage 90.38%
Highest Package 20 LPA
Average Package 7.6 LPA
Lowest Package 3.5 LPA
Placed Students 47

In my experience, NIT Goa has been very good for me. I have had a very good social life. However you will also need to work hard during your years at the institute.

Can someone suggest how to do preparation for the IIMC, Delhi entrance exam?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : June 15th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

The entrance exam (written and interview) for IIMC, Delhi tests a candidate’s personality and creative skills the most. These tips will help you to crack both the written and the interview part. These tips are for the applicants of both, Radio & TV and English Journalism  -

  • Read any English national newspaper on a regular basis - preferably read The Hindu and The Indian Express. This habit will help you even after you get admission into IIMC. Write down important facts and give more than one reading to the editorial section to improve your understanding of current affairs. Your answers in the exam should not be politically biased.
  • Keep yourself updated on all the events of national and international significance- Pratiyogita Darpan and Competition Refresher will help you, especially if you have less preparation time. Being ready with the analysis and a gist of current affairs will help you score extra points. Discuss current affairs with friends and make sure to understand different perspectives on that particular event/issue.
  • Use a dictionary whenever you read a newspaper- Mark all the words that are new to you and search for their meaning. Use either a dictionary on your mobile or a hard copy. Jot down the new words and their meanings. This will enhance your English vocabulary. Also, memorize antonyms and synonyms, as many as you can.
  • Watch videos to polish your vocabulary and grammar- Also watch the youtube videos of Study IQ, Byjus, and Unacademy to get all the information regarding every important current affair. ‘The Big Picture’ on Rajya Sabha TV’s youtube channel is another good watch in this regard.
  • Make a habit to write on on a regular basis- Start with 2 articles on current events a day and then gradually take the count to 4-5 articles each day. Remember to follow 5W’s and 1H. Remember to write a balanced article that is fact-based. This will be helpful during the written exams and the interview.
  • Talk to yourself- Ask questions to yourself and try to reply with utmost sincerity as if you are answering in the interview.
  • Go through the Previous Year's Papers- This way you will understand what kind of questions are asked. You can then prepare in a better way.

All these tips will help you crack the written, GD, and PI rounds of the entrance at IIMC, Delhi and even help you during your academic years at IIMC.

How are the girls hostels in NIT, Warangal?

SS
Shivani Singh Posted On : August 17th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Warangal (2019)

One of my female friends was allotted Sarojini hostel and she shared her experience that was nothing short of a nightmare. The rooms were very small and congested. She had to share the tiny room with 3 other girls. The lighting was poor making it difficult to study.

The hostel was located remotely away from all other hostels. Girls are expected to mention their name in the register whenever entering or leaving the hostel. The hygienic conditions of bathrooms are pathetic with rusted doors and insects of all kinds.

The hostel for the second year students, 'The new Ladies hostel' is, however, better. The rooms are small but neat with clean, white marble tiles. There is a gym as well as a garden. This hostel has long corridors that let in fresh air with huge balconies.

So the first year for girls at NIT Warangal is a nightmare while the second year is better.

How should one prepare for the IIFT?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : February 27th, 2023
Senior Career Counsellor

IIFT (Indian Institutes of Foreign Trade) is a highly reputable college that offers a post-graduate program in management. The college has a limited intake of around 450-500 students per year, and the admission process is based on an online exam conducted by NTA. The exam is of 2 hours duration and provides the flexibility to switch between sections at any time.

When preparing for the IIFT exam, it is important to develop a tailored preparation strategy that takes into account the exam date. For example, if you decide to take the exam six months in advance, you should create a six-month preparation plan, and if you decide to take the exam with only three months or less left, you should create a plan accordingly.

Regardless of when you decide to take the exam, the essential aspects of an IIFT preparation plan include:

  • reviewing the IIFT syllabus
  • obtaining the appropriate study material and IIFT preparation books
  • downloading previous years’ IIFT question papers and online mock tests for practice.

The IIFT exam has four sections: General Knowledge (GK), Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation (LRDI), and Quantitative Aptitude (QA). When studying for the exam, it is advisable to start with the section that you find most challenging and work your way through to the easiest section. It is also important not to leave any topic incomplete, and to avoid studying multiple topics simultaneously to avoid confusion.

To prepare for the VARC section, focus on developing your reading speed and strengthening your grammar. Read newspapers, editorials, online blogs, novels, short stories, business reports, etc. To prepare for the GK section, read newspapers, and current affairs magazines, and watch business news. To prepare for the LRDI section, focus on understanding the concepts and formulae and practice solving sample questions at least three times. To prepare for the QA section, focus on understanding the basics of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Mensuration.

It is also important to keep in mind that there is a negative marking in the IIFT exam, so you should only attempt questions that you can solve with 100% accuracy.

What is benefit doing MBBS in AIIMS Delhi?

AG
Aditya Ghose Posted On : May 31st, 2023
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

The MBBS program offered at AIIMS Delhi is one of the best you can find in the country and is well-regarded by medical students. Here are a few perks of pursuing this course

  • Curriculum: While the MBBS program offered by all medical institutes is somewhat similar, it is the brand value of the AIIMS that influences the quality of courses offered. Rightly called the Harvard of the East, AIIMS Delhi has the best curriculum.
  • Administration: Being an institute of national importance, AIIMS Delhi administration is at complete freedom to make amendments to the curriculum based on recent trends. AIIMS is a government institute and has very low fees and the schedule followed is also very strict.
  • Infrastructure: Approximately, the government of India spends 1. 7 Crore on a single AIIMS Delhi MBBS student. The overall budget of the institute is also very high and the excellent infrastructure is a testament to the same. The Bhim Rao Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital (IRCH) in addition to many centers for different specialties speaks highly of the AIIMS Delhi infrastructure.
  • Research: AIIMS Delhi has around 45 super specialties. The clinical super specialties are in the same campus as its major research facilities thus promoting top-quality translational research, which can be implemented into clinically useful end products, in India.
  • Peer Pool: AIIMS Delhi only admits the best of the best and almost everyone here is a genus. The acceptance rate of the institute is as low as 0.0005%. Here, the faculty-student ratio is much better than the norm.

In addition to these benefits, AIIMS Delhi has the best faculty, hostel facilities and extracurricular culture.

Which is better: IIT BHU or BITS, Pilani?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 11th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Well, if you are getting similar branches in both institutes, BITS Pilani and IIT BHU, it's better to go for the IIT tag. But if you are getting a better branch at BITS consider the following points of comparison

  • Although similar tech companies visit both institutes, their performance in ACM ICPC and GSOC, that makes IIT BHU the better option.
  • For non-tech though, BITS seems to be a notch better option than IIT BHU although similar companies visit their respective campus.
  • IIT BHU has more supply chain-related companies because of the IIT tag
  • Although BITS Pilani has given birth to some great startups, IIT BHU is the clear winner here. The Richest Indian-American is an alumnus of IIT BHU owing to his four successful startups.
  • The students of both colleges have a reputation for doing their masters from top US universities. For IT BHU, the IIT tag is the lucrative aspect while FOR BITS it is the huge number of alumni in research.
  • Being a pirate university, BITS Pilani charges hefty fees from its students.

Irrespective of the institute you choose, it is your efforts that will make you successful so choose wisely.
