Is it better to take Civil engineering at IIT Bombay than IT at MNNIT Allahabad or not?

PS
Prajukta Sinha Posted On : July 23rd, 2022
Studied at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad

On an overall scale, Civil Engineering from IIT Bombay will be a better option. But you should always give preference to branch over the institute. If you aren’t an IT enthusiast, choose IIT Bombay. It offers better career prospects and placement opportunities. IIT Bombay offers unparalleled academics, peer learning opportunities, exposure, and placement opportunities.

During the recent IIT Bombay placements, Civil Engineering students received the average CTC of INR 8 LPA. The highest CTC for the branch goes up to INR 60 LPA.

How is the M.Tech atmosphere (workload) in SVNIT Surat in mechanical engineering?

AS
Amit Sharma Posted On : January 9th, 2024
Studied at NIT Surat

The workload for M.Tech Mechanical students is quite manageable at SVNIT.

In the first year of M.Tech, one has to complete the coursework and attend classes from 8:30 am to 5:40 pm. In the second year, one has to complete the dissertation work and Teaching Assistant Duty (which is for 8 hours per week). SVNIT offers five M.Tech specializations in the related fields. These are- Mechanical Engineering, CAD/CAM, Thermal System Design, Turbo Machines and Manufacturing Engineering. The workload varies from department to department.

One gets ample time to prepare for competitive exams as an M.Tech Mechanical student over here. Most people in M.Tech Mechanical do not attend classes regularly, and instead prepare for their entrance exams. So you need not worry on the attendance front.

VNIT Nagpur is constantly improving from the past few years. You should be proud of yourself for managing to get in.

As an alumni of this institute, I will be giving some valuable advice to you-

  1. Make good connections with your hostelmates.
  2. Pay attention in class, complete your assignments on time, and attend your classes regularly. Study every day, form a good study routine. By following disciplined study habits, you’ll secure 7.5+ CGPA.
  3. Make good notes, or borrow good notes from your seniors and peers. Ask your seniors for useful tips and tricks related to your subjects.
  4. Do not by any chance, come into the bad books of your professors. They may not affect your theory marks, but can surely affect your lab results.
  5. Befriend your seniors, don’t enter their bad books. They’ll be of immense help in your studies and overall college life.
  6. Maintain 75% attendance for all your lectures and tutorials, especially the ones taken by strict professors. The professors of Applied Mechanics Department (Engineering Mechanics) and Electrical Engineering Department are especially particular about attendance.
  7. Participate in events, and become a member of college clubs. Aarohi, Axis and Consortium are some of the important college events. Make sure to participate in the Department Gathering and Institute Gathering during your first year.
  8. Reach out to the college counselor, your peers, or your seniors whenever you feel like giving up on everything. You’ll face plenty of hardships, but remember to never give up.
  9. Make the most of your college life. VNIT has many shortcomings, try to ignore those and focus on the good aspects.

Study well and make the most of your first year at VNIT Nagpur. You’ll remember this period for the rest of your life, so make it worthwhile.

The new branch of IIIT Allahabad namely the Information Technology Business Informatics is great. Although it’s new, the curriculum is well-updated. There is one extra subject each semester. No doubt, the workload is intense but so is the curriculum of IT and ECE branches. The duration of this course is 4 years and there will be 2 credits additionally from other branches from the 2nd semester.

How is quality engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

AD
Ajay Diwan Posted On : March 27th, 2023
Studied at IIT Kharagpur

There is a Quality Engineering Design and Manufacturing or QEDM program offered at IIT Kharagpur. Some highlights of the course are

  • This program is a 5-year dual degree course
  • It is flexible and offers a plethora of choices to choose from
  • Based on your CGPA, you are allotted a vertical at the end of the first year. This can be either Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Electronics.
  • The batch strength is very low in comparison to other core branches
  • This course gives you the opportunity to choose a branch of your choice which is hardly possible after clearing JEE.

If you are concerned about placements, let me tell you that placements depend more on the student's performance than the particular branch. One of my friends told me that the entire batch got placed on the first day itself with many bagging core packages.

Which course is better in Goa institute of management?

UD
Utkarsh Dev Posted On : March 2nd, 2023
PGDM - Big Data Analytics from Goa Institute of Management (Graduated 2021)

Goa Institute of Management has 2 regular programs

  1. PGDM
  2. PGDM HCM

PGDM: PGDM is its flagship course and is very successful. Its 100% placement percentage is a testament to that. The average salary has been increasing every year and this year stands at INR 12.07 LPA. The companies visiting the campus for recruitment have been loyal by visiting every year. The regular PGDM has much more fees in comparison to PGDM HCM and thus a lower ROI. Also, admission to PGDM is tough owing to tough competition.

PGDM HCM: This program was launched just a few years ago and had few seats. It too boasts of a 100% placement percentage yet its average package at INR 10.40 LPA is lower than PGDM. But some companies come especially for HCM students. The PGDM HCM has fees lower than PGDM and thus offers a higher ROI than regular PGDM. Due to a lack of awareness, the competition is also less tough than PGDM.

Talking about the delivery of the curriculum, the faculty, pedagogy, infrastructure, and facilities are all the same. The students of both programs join together during events. So eventually it’s up to you to decide which course to take.

Having a superhero life, waiting for an arch-rival

Students can choose from either Python or R after learning both of them in this course. They get to sharpen our presentation abilities, business perspective, and statistical knowledge. Moreover, the course covers Hadoop and big data. You will have plenty of data to work with because the course is industry-focused. Courses include multiple projects, and students can do projects based on the subjects they study.

As a course that is heavily focused on the business world, some highlights include frequent visits from business representatives and numerous guest lectures. Without a doubt, this course will give you a competitive advantage in the field and is well worth the money.

How helpful is the dual degree of IIM Calcutta provided by CEMS for one's career growth?

SP
Shivam Pandey Posted On : December 1st, 2022
MBA in Master of Business Administration Degrees, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi (Graduated 2018)

The dual degree of IIM Calcutta provided by CEMS is of little use unless you are planning to settle in Europe in the long run. The reasons why it is not worthy are:

  • CEMS is not recognized in India. No industry recognises this degree. 95% of IIM graduates are placed within India.

  • The international scope of this degree is limited to Europe only. 21 out of 30 CEMS member schools are European.

  • This degree requires you to complete a 10-week foreign internship which is very difficult to secure.

  • The selections for CEMS are competitive. 25-30 students are selected from among 70-80 applicants.

Without any doubt CEMS is the highest rated dual degree program in Europe. But within India or outside Europe, this program becomes useless.

To apply to the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad, you must have a profile with average academics. However, a high GMAT score of 720 or higher can strengthen your application. The admissions committee at ISB Hyderabad receives a large number of applications from IT and engineering backgrounds, so it's important to stand out from the competitive applicant pool.

In your essays, it's crucial to highlight the initiatives you have taken to make a difference in your company or with your clients. Which college is better, GMC Patiala or CMC Ludhiana?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 25th, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

Both GMC Patiala and CMC Ludhiana are well-respected colleges in India. Both offer excellent education and resources for students.

Let's consider the following aspects:

  • Fees : GMC Patiala is a government college so it charges much lesser fees around INR 1.74 Lakhs (First Year) in contrast to CMC Ludhiana which charges around INR 6.6 Lakhs for the first year.
  • Academics : The academic environment is more or less the same. CMC Ludhiana has a smaller batch size so the student-to-teacher ratio is pretty good ensuring personal attention to each.
  • Clinical exposure: CMC Ludhiana because is a multispeciality hospital and has a better patient load and diversity in cases. Sometimes even government colleges refer cases to this hospital.
  • Hostels : CMC is a private college so its hostel facilities and overall infrastructure are definitely better than GMC Patiala. CMC Ludhiana students get a single room from their first year.

However, the only drawback is that CMC Ludhiana is located amidst the hustle and bustle such that one has to cross the main road to reach the hospital from the hostel.
