On an overall scale, Civil Engineering from IIT Bombay will be a better option. But you should always give preference to branch over the institute. If you aren’t an IT enthusiast, choose IIT Bombay. It offers better career prospects and placement opportunities. IIT Bombay offers unparalleled academics, peer learning opportunities, exposure, and placement opportunities.

During the recent IIT Bombay placements, Civil Engineering students received the average CTC of INR 8 LPA. The highest CTC for the branch goes up to INR 60 LPA.

My first and foremost answer would be to go to IIT Bombay for Civil Engineering. There are quite a few reasons for this:

  • If you are deeply interested in IT, you will still have different options like department change or do a minor degree in CS or do CS courses independently.
  • Department changes might be difficult, but at the end of the first year, students have the provision to change their departments. However, this highly depends on your CGPA. And at IIT Delhi, only 10 to 15% of students are provided with this. You can move to the CSE department with a high CGPA.

You will definitely get to learn a lot in any of these options. You don’t have to worry about placements either as a number of companies visit IIT Bombay every year so you will get placed easily.

If you don’t find IT as interesting after you join, there’s still a lot more you can try at IIT Bombay. The environment in the college is extremely enriching and overall, you will be provided with a lot of exposure. You can even choose courses based on humanities and management and get amazing insights.

Lastly, you will definitely get some great internships and can even get placed in non-core firms if you work hard enough.

All these factors will help build your career and personality. You will also grow a lot. So, you should definitely go with IIT Bombay rather than MNNIT Allahabad.
