How is life at svnit?

UB
Utsav Bose Posted On : January 9th, 2024
Btech Mechanical Engineering, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (2019)

I completed my B.Tech Mechanical from SVNIT and went on to pursue my MBA from a reputed business school. However, the days spent at SVNIT are the closest to my heart, and those were the best college days for me.

The crowd of SVNIT is not just culturally diverse, but it consists of some of the best minds of the country. The first semester is a bit overwhelming because one gets to study with some very intelligent people. But as time passes by, such great company is a source of inspiration and motivation for achieving something big in life. GRE, CAT and GMAT form an important part of peer discussions.

In my days, Mechanical was the best department of SVNIT because of its top class faculty (except a few). By the time I graduated from college, I even had a patent in my name. Like any other college, SVNIT is a place to make lifelong friends. When in college, one learns to share food and clothes with friends, and they become one’s second family.

The mess food is good enough, but by second year it starts to feel very boring. But then, Surat city has great eateries, so food is never a problem for SVNIT students. The environment is amazingly supportive towards finding one’s passions and hobbies.

The life of SVNIT is filled with ups and downs, but the time spent at this place is really great and unforgettable.

Have heard the 1 year MBA program at ISB Hyderabad is very rigorous. What would be the passing criteria and are there people who fail?

SG
Shubham Gupta Posted On : February 14th, 2023
Studied at ISB Hyderabad

The ISB routine is rigorous, with a heavy workload and limited time to complete it. You will have class quizzes every week and exams every fortnight, in addition to other extracurricular activities and assignments. However, once you become accustomed to it, you may find that you enjoy the challenge.

It is important to have decent academic skills, as evidenced by a GMAT score in the range of 600 to 770, but it is also important to note that your performance in class quizzes, assignments, and other activities also plays a role in determining your grade. If you are considering applying to ISB, it is important to focus on your application and not let the rigorous routine discourage you.

Can students of IIM Ahmedabad with no prior work experience participate in the double degree programme with the European Institutes?

KS
Kalpen Shukla Posted On : November 24th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (Graduated 2021)

Yes, students of IIM Ahmedabad with no prior work experience can participate in the double degree programme with the European Institutes. The selection for the same is based on:

  1. Your academic performance

  2. Extracurricular performance

  3. Any foreign exposure

So your work experience has nothing to do with the double degree program. Rather your academic performance at IIM Ahmedabad and prior foreign exposure helps you in getting selected for this program.

How safe is NIT Patna for girls?

AS
Aditi Sinha Posted On : August 31st, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Patna (2020)

NIT Patna is a very safe place for girls, regardless of the course you end up pursuing over here-

  1. The campus has good security with guards present at all required locations. During weekends or on special occasions, the security is tightened even further.
  2. The girls' hostel is located inside the campus with female security guards. The hostel wardens are friendly and treat you as a family member.
  3. There are registers that you need to sign whenever moving in and out of the college/hostel. No one will ask you for your destination.
  4. You can move out of the campus between 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., which is a flexible time slot.
  5. You can roam around the campus till 9:30 p.m. A delay is registered and frequent offenders are penalized.
  6. For going out of the hostel for a few days, you need to get your leaves sanctioned 24 hours before.
  7. Unlike popular belief, Patna city is as safe as any other Indian city. Daytime is especially safe as per my experience.
  8. NIT Patna has a small campus located in the middle of the city. The surrounding areas are very populated, and there is a constant presence of Police in the entire region. On weekends, due to arti on NIT Ghat, the campus security is further tightened.

Thus, NIT Patna is pretty safe for girl students.

Is the integrated MSc program (Physics) in IIT Kharagpur good?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 27th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

There are two scenarios under which this can be discussed.

  1. You are looking for good placements, under this scenario, seeking to become a Psychist is almost impossible since you will have to aim for higher studies first.
  2. You want to become a psychist irrespective of the job you get: This is for those who are passionate about becoming a Psychic and are ready to forgo high packages to pursue their interests.

IIT KGP: As far as the IIT Kharagpur Integrated MSc is concerned, I will be brutally honest in letting you know that IIT KGP is not the right place to pursue Physics. This is just not my opinion but the opinion of many alumni and professors of the Institute itself. The academic environment and exposure are not good for learning physics.

IIT Kanpur: While some may say that there is a certain bias between core Engineering students and physics students, IIT Kanpur still is the best when it comes to imparting Physics education. It offers the right opportunities and exposure required for this program.

IISER: These are usually research-oriented and the education imparted here lays great emphasis on basic sciences. Great exposure in the form of research work is offered to make the program a high-quality one. The students attend seminars and talks to discuss the ongoing research in various fields giving a practical approach to the entire curriculum. The research work is more extensive than that of other institutes.

Your top two choices should be IIT Kanpur and IISER. If you are going for the latter, make sure you look into the research work done by the professors there. But if you are after placements, go for IITs.

It's always a good idea to research and speak with current students or alumni to get a better sense of what a program is like. Additionally, it is important to consider whether the program aligns with your career goals and interests.

Does EY GDS offer an MBA at ISB Hyderabad?

PG
Pramit Ganguly Posted On : January 30th, 2023
MBA in Finance and Strategy, Indian School of Business (Graduated 2016)

Yes, EY GDS does offer an MBA at ISB Hyderabad. But if we talk about its worth, it’s a debatable issue. My friend has been with the firm for nearly 2 months and has a lot to say about the course. Some major pros and cons below will help you make a wiser decision

Pros

  • You get to interact with geniuses and gain excellent experience.
  • You are a way ahead of your peers and get a spike in promotion

Cons

  • The course is generally taken up by girls who want to postpone their marriage on the pretext that they are still studying or boys who have no clue what to pursue. So the peer group is of substandard quality.
  • EY has recently made changes to the course and customized it to suit one’s needs. This sort, of course, is not worth the hype.
  • Campus life is extremely hectic as you have to manage your course assignments alongside working on EY client engagements.
  • The course has hefty fees

Make your decision after weighing the pros and cons only.
