Can I get IET Lucknow or KNIT Sultanpur in the spot round of counselling in the UPSEE if my general rank is 12000 and an OBC rank of 3000?

AR
Abhijeet Roy Posted On : August 6th, 2021
B.Tech from Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (2018)

I have friends from both IET Lucknow and KNIT Sultanpur and according to them, you will not get any of IET Lucknow or KNIT Sultanpur with this rank. Your OBC rank will not be of any help as selections in the spot round are done based on the general rank and there is no reservation. Also, at IET/KNIT, seats for core branches like CS/EC/ME, fill up first.

If you are a fresher then I will suggest you take a year drop and appear for various entrance exams next year and, if you are not a fresher then, you can go to other colleges. You will not get the atmosphere like IET Lucknow anywhere else, and hence, taking a year drop will be the best in any case. The environment is very competitive at IET Lucknow. Even KNIT Sultanpur lags in this case. The location of IET Lucknow is perfect for coaching for exams like CAT, GATE, IES, IAS, etc.

Visit the official websites, to get the detailed information regarding the cutoff required at these institutes.

How was your experience of DTU Spot round?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : July 3rd, 2023

My friend describes her DTU spot round experience as the most surprising and unexpected incident of hers which she is unable to forget to date.

After her average Boards score, she had little hope for selection. Based on the previous cutoff she would get PIE in DTU but she found out that there were only 3 seats for PIE in DTU for GNGNO and they were all opted as the spot round proceeded to 12K. She then thought of getting an MPAE in NSIT although she wasn’t very sure.

After much anticipation and research, she was called up by the committee conducting the spot round and was asked to choose from PCT in DTU or MPAE in NSIT. She happily selected MPAE in NSIT as it was related to Mechanical. After losing all hope she ended up with a good branch and a great institute.

If I fail a subject in 1st year and pass it in the 1st supplementary will I get a star in my memo JNTUH?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 3rd, 2023

I will suggest that you don’t apply for the intermediate analogy in Graduation. It's a way you can easily pass the subjects based on your convenience throughout the full time of the course. You won’t get any stars in your memo but you will have a memo for each supplementary you write.

The individual memos help you in applying to foreign universities. For other applications, you require a Consolidated Marks Memo which can be easily obtained after clearing all papers. These memos have stars even if you pass in all subjects.

Hope this helped you!

How was your first day at IIT Roorkee?

KB
Keshav Behera Posted On : April 11th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

Your first day at IIT Roorkee will certainly hold a special place in your heart. The first impression is definitely the last impression and so is the first impression of IIT Roorkee. The following answer is based on the experience of a friend.

As she entered, she was thrilled by the beauty of the campus and the infrastructure. She entered the Convocation Hall and got herself registered after a tiresome process. She was then handed a paper ID card.

Next, she was escorted to her assigned hostel which to her dismay was an old and eerie building. Her roommate was in the branch as her and soon she unpacked her belongings and set up her room. By evening, she had interacted with some regarding the Orientation Program.

The next few days were spent in a frenzy with the alarm clock waking her up early in the morning. Students were given a tour of the campus and were also asked to choose their proficiency amongst NCC, NSS & NSO. There was also a test of English where the vocabulary was to be evaluated.

The students were enlightened in basic policies such as curfew timings and no ragging culture.

Students were also given a white-colored T-shirt with IITR’s logo and were asked to run a marathon at 6 am in the morning. The food served at the mess was pathetic.

Overall, the first day at IIT Roorkee is full of surprises and learning new things!

What is the major difference between private engineering college and government engineering college students in india?

DD
Debarshi Dey Posted On : May 18th, 2021
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2020)

Apart from parameters like the merit of students, the difference in fees, etc. But, in addition to that, there are quite a few differences between private engineering colleges and government engineering colleges.

  • Classes in government colleges have a duration of 3 to 4 hours but in the case of private colleges, classes can go on for 6 to 7 hours.
  • The faculty of government colleges is not that friendly. They are always found busy with something.
  • Even though the teachers of a government college teach very little, the standard of teaching in government colleges is far better than private colleges.
  • Students of private colleges will always be found busy studying or completing assignments. The students of private colleges are hard workers.
  • Contrary to popular belief, government colleges do not have a lot of brand value. There are fewer chances of your being considered if you are not from a big college or NITs or IITs.
  • Private colleges provide more internships and more attractive employment opportunities than government colleges do.
  • The systems of government colleges are slow in nature and so it is rare to find labs and workshops of the colleges in good condition. It takes an eternity if the equipment is damaged.
  • Students of government colleges are much more capable of cracking exams like ESE, CAT, and GATE. They even outdo others by their performances.

However, not all who have passed from government colleges have made it big in life and more or less the same can be said about the students who have graduated from private universities. What matters is how you are making use of our college life. If you are passionate enough, you can get through any hurdle.

Government colleges also charge far fewer fees from the students than what private universities charge. So, there is financial freedom.

What is the preparation strategy of AIIMS Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 17th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The best way is not to set any targets because when you do, you are limiting yourself to a certain extent. You may or may not achieve your target. But if you don’t set one, you can aim for the sky. AIIMS Delhi was the dream college of one of my friends who had literally no chance of making it into it. The only mantra he followed was not to expect yourself to perform to a particular or specific level, but rather give it your all. As for the preparation strategy, here is what he shared

  • Practice Assertion Reason questions: This section is often underestimated when in reality it is a major rank-determining factor.
  • Attend assertion reason questions in the beginning: Some might find it weird, but he chose to solve Assertion Reason before the exams as they required a fresh mind which would not have been possible after exams.
  • Don’t forget the negative marks:  The negative marking might affect your overall performance drastically so beware of it.
  • Always stay patient: Don't panic even if you find the question paper to be very challenging as you will forget whatever you have studied.

Hope you score well!

Have I done a mistake in choosing IIT Delhi mechanical over DTU CS? I preferred to do CS, but due to ego, I chose IIT Delhi.

SG
Sushmita Gupta Posted On : April 1st, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

I don’t think anyone choosing IIT Delhi over any other engineering college has made a wrong decision given the opportunities and life experiences that come with it. While both are crucial, your choice of Institute is more important than your branch.

Here is a friend's journey for your reference l was a BTech student (Civil) at IIT BHU with a rank of 3600.

  • First, he completed a Nanodegree program from Udacity in Self Driving Cars and Machine learning
  • Next, he worked as a Derivative Trader in Future First where he performed Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms.
  • After gaining great experience and exposure he joined Quantela Inc for 2 Years where he worked as a Data Scientist.
  • Today, after a lot of job switches and immense experience he is working at Derq in Dubai as a Machine Learning Scientist and doing Online MS from Georgia Tech University in Computer Science.

This journey of a 7-pointer Civil Branch student to a high-tech CS company proves that branch does not matter in the end. He made the most of his campus life and kept struggling to switch his branch and eventually succeeded. That being said, you have made the right decision as only IIT Delhi can give you the right set of opportunities and exposure and not DTU.
