I am a fourth year B.Tech CSE student at IIT Bhubaneswar. As per the NIRF Engineering Ranking 2023, IIT Bhubaneswar is placed 47th. Moreover, IIT Bhubaneswar recorded 100% placements in B.Tech CSE in 2023, and the average package stood at INR 25.18 LPA for this branch. The top recruiters at IIT Bhubaneswar for 2023 placements were- Accenture, Adobe, Amazon, Dell, Deloitte, HCL, Infosys, ISRO, among others.

I am a second year B.Tech CSE student at IIT Bhubaneswar. Here are some details on both these institutions-
- NIT Trichy is an old NIT, and it ranks among the top engineering colleges in India. The placement record at NIT Trichy is quite good. The best placements are recorded in postgraduate programs of NIT Trichy. Top companies like Facebook, Google, Cognizant, Essar, Amazon, etc. visit the NITT campus for placements.
- IIT Bhubaneswar is a 2nd gen IIT that is continuously progressing. In 2023, the institution saw a great rise in its placement figures. Almost 88% of students got placements from the campus, and companies like Accenture, Amazon, DELL, Adobe, Tata Steel, Honeywell, etc. visited for recruitments.

Even though NIT Trichy is an older and more reputed institution out of the two, these statistics make it clear that IIT Bhubaneswar has made tremendous progress over the years. As a result, it is quickly catching up to the older IITs and NITs in terms of academics and placements.

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Gandhinagar both are new IITs and have decent placement records so it’s hard to pick one institute over the other.
According to the NIRF Ranking 2020 (Engineering Category), IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked at 22nd place. The overall M.Tech placements percentage at this institute was close to 69% in 2019. The placement of M. Tech design is quite good too. The main recruiters included most of the PSU’s such as HPCL, Oil India Limited, IOCL, and MNCs like Goldman Sachs, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, etc.
IIT Gandhinagar is ranked 24th among the engineering colleges of India according to the NIRF Ranking 2020. The majority of placements offers at IIT Gandhinagar are made by PSU’s. Students also opt for different options according to their preferences about different careers.
But in the end, these are just some statistics that can change over time. So, you should make your decision according to your convenience.
Is there any dress-code for girls in IIT Bhubaneswar?
No, there is no such dress-code in IIT Bhubaneswar. But there are few basic rules regarding dress code like other colleges IIT Bhubaneswar expects the girls to follow. You should not attend the classes wearing something which may be perceived as inappropriate for the classroom environment. Other than that girls are free to wear what they want in the hostels.
But, there is a certain dress code for certain events in the college. In convocation, IIT Bhubaneswar asks its degree recipient to maintain a proper dress code. The dress code for girls is Saree with Golden Border/Churidar of Offwhite or White or Cream Color. For placements, the girls are always asked to be in their formals. The formals can be in the form of Churidar / Saree / Blazer with shirts tucked in, etc. Since jeans are not a part of formals therefore the girls are not allowed to wear such during such events.
How good is the faculty and the infrastructure of IIT Bhubaneswar's mechanical department?
IIT Bhubaneswar Mechanical Department is one of the oldest and most highly regarded departments of the institute with top-notch facilities and education.

Facilities:
- IIT Bhubaneshwar’s School of Mechanical Science(SMS) is decked with the latest amenities, modern labs, and high-tech workshops for students.
Campus life:
- IIT Bhubaneswar has a dynamic campus life made interesting with frequent seminars and interactive sessions for all the students.
- The institute also organizes a lab fest wherein MTech students display their projects.
- Students are given access to the DIC, Design Innovation Centre so they can work on their projects from the first year itself. The materials are supplied by the institute itself.
Placements:
- IIT BHU average package stood at INR 21.95 LPA, the median package at INR 18.12 LPA, and the highest package at INR 91.19 LPA.
- The placement percentage of the Mechanical department at IIT BHU stood at 78.75%
- Some of the top recruiters included Airbnb India, Uber, Microsoft, Accenture, Piramal, etc.
The Mechanical Department of IIT BHU as a whole is great and can be considered a good option.
Should I join M.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar?
For undergraduates, ECE is one of the new branches in IIT Bhubaneswar. The first batch commenced in 2016 and will be graduating in 2020. But M.tech in Electronics and Communication has been present in IIT Bhubaneswar for many years. The School currently offers M.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering specializations with an intake student strength of 18. The program is of 2 years where the second year is fully dedicated for research purposes only. It focuses on providing students a state-of-the-art insight into major areas of Communication Engineering, Signal Processing, and other related latest areas of research interest. IIT Bhubaneswar signed MoU with many universities for various purposes like research and student exchange. The institute also collaborates with foreign universities such as the University of Warwick, University of Southampton, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Western Ontario, University of New York, University of North Dakota USA, and McGill University. Which gives the students of this IIT excellent internship and research opportunity.
The past placement reports show that this institute has witnessed around 60% of M.Tech placement. Companies like Adobe, Amazon, Accenture, Affine Analytics, HCL, HPCL, IOCL, ISRO, Ittiam, Infosys, KIIT, Go-Jek, Goldman Sachs, and many others visited the campus for recruitment. The average domestic CTC offered in 2019 was INR 11.44 LPA. Whereas the highest domestic CTC went up to as much as 39 Lakhs per annum. PSU’s like ISRO, IOCL, NCCBM also participated in the placement to recruit students.
Even though IIT Bhubaneswar is a new IIT, it offers a decent M.Tech program in ECE and has a good placement record. So, whether you should join M.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar or not is up to you.

Which is better, IIT Hyderabad for EE or IIT Bhubaneswar for CS?
If you plan to change to CS, it is quite difficult to shift from EE to CS at IIT Hyderabad. It is easier for other branches to change to CS.
Mechanical and Chemical students get CS during branch change, but the chances are less for Electrical students. This is the experience of one of my friends at IIT Hyderabad.
CS at IIT Hyderabad is better than CS at other new IITs. IIT Hyderabad is one of the best among the new IITs. IIT Hyderabad is showing tremendous growth.
