Whether aerospace at IIT Madras is better or ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar is better this choice solely depends on your career goals, subject choices, and preference.

  • However, if you ask me I think opting for ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar is a good choice as the ECE branch at the institution is known for its extensive academic structure, highly qualified faculty members, and excellent facilities for research works.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar offers undergraduate and Postgraduate programs for ECE.
  • The average course fee for the first year of BTech in ECE from IIT Bhubaneswar is around INR 2.32 Lakhs.
  • The placement scenario for the ECE branch at IIT Bhubaneswar is pretty good with 90.91% of students placed in the placement drive.
  • The highest package is INR 44.62 LPA and the average is INR 22.85 LPA for the year 2023.

I also had the same dilemma and I chose Aerospace at IIT Madras over other departments for the following reasons:-

  • The Aerospace course at IITM is well-structured.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar has a NIRF ranking 47th with IIT Madras at 1st.
  • The Average salary for IIT Bhubaneswar ECE Program is 22.85 LPA with 90% of students placed.
  • The Average package for IIT Madras Aerospace Engineering is 21 LPA.
  • The syllabus of Aerospace follows the latest curriculum and incorporates the latest industry trends.
  • While considering the branches individually Aerospace seems to be a better option than ECE.

B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2019)

The aerospace course in IITM is a well-structured course. IIT M is also the top-ranked IIT in our country (NIRF Ranking-1). The placements for this branch have been consistent over the years. In the 2019 placement drive, the institute witnessed 70% placement offers with an average annual CTC of 16.1 LPA.

ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar is a new course as it was started in 2016 and the first batch will graduate in 2020. The syllabus of ECE follows the curriculum of IIT KGP and incorporates the latest industry trends. The infrastructure in terms of labs, faculty, etc. are commendable at IIT Bhubaneswar, but in terms of placements for this branch, it’s not as good as the aerospace branch at IITM. There are no past placement records for the ECE department but the overall placement rate in 2019 was 90% with an average CTC of 11.44 LPA.

While considering the branches individually ECE seems to be a better option than aerospace. ECE opens up a wide array of options, for example, manufacturing jobs, while the scope of the aerospace course in the niche. Finally, if comparing both the courses IIT Bhubaneswar’s ECE may offer good scope due to its traditional nature, but in terms of placements and overall quality of the course, IITM’s aerospace engineering is better.
