I got a call from IIT Bhubaneswar as well as from IIT Gandhinagar for M.TECH in Machine design branch.Which IIT is better?

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Gandhinagar both are new IITs and have decent placement records so it’s hard to pick one institute over the other.

According to the NIRF Ranking 2020 (Engineering Category), IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked at 22nd place. The overall M.Tech placements percentage at this institute was close to 69% in 2019. The placement of M. Tech design is quite good too. The main recruiters included most of the PSU’s such as HPCL, Oil India Limited, IOCL, and MNCs like Goldman Sachs, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, etc.

IIT Gandhinagar is ranked 24th among the engineering colleges of India according to the NIRF Ranking 2020. The majority of placements offers at IIT Gandhinagar are made by PSU’s. Students also opt for different options according to their preferences about different careers.

How is an M.Tech in machine design in IIT Bhubaneswar?

IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked 11th among the IITs and 12th in engineering by India Today 2020. The M.Tech in Machine Design at IIT Bhubaneswar accepts students based on the scores of their GATE examination. There are 20 seats for Machine Design at IIT Bhubaneswar. The annual tuition fee for this course is 60,000 approximately.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must register through the official website of COAP.

  • Students need 600 points in their GATE exam to be eligible for a seat in IIT Bhubaneswar. For Machine Design the required cutoff in 2019 was 605 (General).

  • Students need to go through a written test and personal interview in order to be selected.
